She might try getting a job in a nursing home. Given that their residents die on regular basis..

I don’t think she should be allowed near any vulnerable people ever again, much less be in charge of their care. Makes me ill to think about tbh.

I agree. But if she is found NG, what would prevent her from becoming a carer to someone vulnerable? Even if she is struck off from nursing for IG breeches.

Under GDPR any breaches, such as this, should be notified to them - so guessing NHS would have had to do this when Police found the handover sheets. They would then look into the level of the breach and fine the Trust accordingly - it can rack up into £100,000s+ - when GDPR came into effect, my workplace were shitting themselves / drumming into us the (new level) seriousness of breaches, and this was just accidental ones we may do - not purposefully taking stuff home. The GDPR breach I would imagine lead to a person going infront of a disciplinary hearing as to why they had it etc and if she couldn’t justify it = misconduct I would expect.

Would be interesting to know if the Trust was fined by GDPR for her taking all that tit home and how much

@nosycowmoo was the interesting legal argument anything to do with the chart BM showed, with letby on shift that was an older version and actually had 25 incidents on it instead of 24 👀

I think, given the publicity around the case the NMC would have no choice but to strike off. She’s been shown to repeatedly and unapologetically breach data protection, be derelict of duty (you can’t care for patients if you prioritise your private messaging) and incompetent- not escalating bleeding/desaturation concerns. She has also failed to reflect on her failings as she insists she hasn’t done anything wrong. It would be a blemish against the profession in the public’s eye which they take very seriously. Also they wouldn’t want to risk having to deal with it happening again. ETA I can’t see any university willing to accept her on a return to practice course. BA worked in a nursing home after her initial arrest and look how that turned out 😳

Surely even if she was found innocent on all counts (doubt that’ll happen), she’d still be in trouble with the nursing and midwifery council for all of the other stuff she has done, like taking home all of those handover sheets and being constantly on her phone all shift? Also I don’t really think anyone would want to employ her after seeing her throw every single one of her colleagues under the bus and trying to blame them for baby deaths when it clearly wasn’t their fault.

Today will be a tough one. I can't imagine the horror the parents have felt listening to BNE's closing speech and hearing again the evils LL did to their poor babies; but today they'll start hearing someone trying to pass their deaths off as a conspiracy, or down to poor care/staffing etc.
I think there will be a lot of anger and emotion from where the parents are sat

His comment yesterday that it was “mind boggling” that the medics have said the babies in the case were doing well. It’s really grim. Little problem for Benny boy are the many texts of people’s shock and disbelief that the babies died at all and that they died so rapidly. That SB launched his own investigations and enquiries to try and make sense of the deaths. While a baby unexpectedly declining, even extremely rapidly, may not be out of all possibilities, that it can happen when one person is placed at the scene over and over again is just utter nonsense. She has no defence.

I work in a nursing home, usually short staffed and the owners would've employed Harold Shipman if it meant they didn't have to employ agency staff.

I think his snark and arrogance will be the undoing of him. 🤞 With such a delicate case surely you'd try to do your job without resorting to being such a massive wick? No class.

Maybe I'm too naive.

Let’s hope the jury consider this when deliberating.

ETA: the possibility of her getting access to vulnerable patients if found NG

Just been being a Data Protection nerd -

“Under the DPA, there are a number of civil and criminal offences relating to the breach of personal data. However, the broadest, most serious, and most likely to apply is that of “unlawfully obtaining personal data”(section 170(1)). This criminal offence is committed where a person knowingly or recklessly, without the consent of the “controller” (which in most cases is likely to be your employer):

N.B. As this offence can be committed “recklessly”, you do not need to have intended to commit the offence. It is sufficient if you were aware of the risk that a circumstance existed or would exist and you unreasonably took that risk (R v G and another [2003] UKHL 50).”

Will love it if she faces criminal charges as well for all the data she had.

Also one for all the HCPs melts on FB that claim that taking handover sheets home is the norm 🙃

sorry if writing is fukked - phone hates this website!

BM is starting on child A today. Child A died of air embolus and his twin child B was attempted murder. I can see from the Wiki the experts had input into the case so no doubt he'll be continuing his trashing of the expert witnesses again today. This will be difficult for A and B's parents. Child A was also said to be doing well and his brother the weaker twin has managed to survive so I cannot see how he can try to put across child A being fragile.

10:35am

The trial is now resuming.

Benjamin Myers KC is referring to the case of Child A.

He says there was sub-optimal care in that case.

He says on a neonatal unit, babies "are there for a reason" and many of the babies have "signficant problems" and are "at risk of deterioration".
---

10:37am

He says Melanie Taylor was designated nurse for Child A and Child B. They were both intensive care babies.

He says the prosecution have relied on nursing guidelines for some of the children, but not on the "fundamental issue" of staffing numbers.

He says there "should not have been just one nurse" looking after Child A and Child B.

He says if there was one nurse for each, they would be "more confident" the issue of lines and nursing care was resolved.

He adds Dr David Harkness was stretched between a number of babies for the shift on June 8, 2015.

So he's going along the route to start with of Mel Taylor being overworked as well as David Harkness so sub-optimal care.

Doesn't this need to have been bought up earlier though? Thought this was a summary not new reasons.

I’m so anxious she is going to be found NG by some dippy jurors, don’t know if I can keep reading!

By the way has anyone followed the Paris Mayo case? Don’t get me wrong, what she did was truly awful and she should face consequences, but if a 19 year old who was obviously going through abuse / trauma / mental health issues when she committed the crime at 15 and Letby gets NG, I think I’ll honestly cry!
