The notes to me are clear as day, proof of guilty concsience.
She was probably sitting there crying and writing out her thoughts to try and process her emotions and then try and calm herself by telling herself its ok I’ve done nothing wrong they have no evidence.

Sorry going back to the notes found, aside from her writing that she did it and calling herself evil, I find it interesting that she wrote ‘they have no evidence’. Is that her trying to convince herself they won’t be able to find evidence or maybe she believes she covered her tracks enough?

Hi all, first post after lurking for a few months.

Two things:

1, to the person who suggested LL may be struggling to come to terms with her own abortion, I also thought this could be a possibility. Her alleged actions would definitely make more sense in the context of her having lost her own child, through abortion, miscarriage or whatever. I imagine being around a constant reminder of that would be extremely detrimental to a person's state of mind. That combined with her viewing the victims' parents as 'not good enough' as a projection of her own guilt would definitely be a plausible motive IMO but obviously this is just speculation at the mo.

2, Based on the content I think The Note was actually intended to be a suicide note, but for whatever reason she didn't go through with it.

I'm going to try and stay detached and just dip in and out of the coverage/conversation to protect my own MH but just wanted to share my thoughts as things stand.

I need to catch up on the thread. But having experienced the Nicu for 126 days with my daughter (born 26+2) I almost find it an easy way out to use their prematurity. You do have ALOT of set backs, it’s 1 step forward, 10 back. But I think of some of those cases and how stable they sound, I’m not a nurse or health professional but I know exactly what their medical terms in the Nicu mean, you almost become a nurse being there that long And I just wonder how on earth they deteriorated that much to lose their dear little life 💔. Even after defence today I’m still leaning towards guilty.

The notes sounds to me likes she's panicked
'Who knows what? What evidence do they have? Who can prove what?' Personally that sounds like guilty ramblings of someone trying to keep a check of it all.
Yeah agreed. It sounds like she was working out how she was going to get out of it and be one step ahead

I'm seeing the link now between death rates dropping, their nicu being downgraded to a level 1, and lucy going on admin duty.
Did they stop because she went on duty? Or did they stop because no one under the gestation of 32 weeks was to be admitted there. Or did they stop as a result of both of these things being implemented?
That's really really spot on and interesting.

I'm s

If she is guilty, she maybe wants infamy? She'd have known that if she pleaded not guilty the trial would be huge, and her name and face would be splashed all over the media. She'd be banged up, but everybody would know who she is and what she's done.
I just keep imagining her parents sitting there, what must be going through their heads?? Watching this all unfold

I think it’ll be difficult to use as a confession as you say, it’s clearly someone in despair. Wether that’s despair because she’s done it or despair because she’s being accused, we don’t know. The one thing that might sway it towards being a confession is it says ‘on purpose’.
Absolutely this! Each person will interpret this note very different. It also says 'I havent done anything wrong' 'despair' and 'why me?'
Prosecution didn't focus on that.

I know this will be unpopular but if I was a nurse I wouldn't mind cameras in those rooms.

Also there's been cases where sicko parents tamper with equipment etc too. Surely the lives of the babies should be more important than privacy of staff.
What's the invasion of privacy anyway when they're just doing their job.
Lots of people have jobs where there is CCTV.
We recorded everyday in the streets and the shops so why not icu. Is street crime and shop lifting more important than sick babies. This is an emotional post rather than a rational one . I can't even think straight anymore when it comes to this case.
I wouldn't want cameras. We perform personal care, there must be dignity for patients. I also work on a Palliative ward, death can be peaceful it can also be very traumatic and awful. Would I want a family asking for camera evidence knowing it will devastate them. Not really.

Looking through everything, the stories, the notes.. I always usually have an ‘innocent until proven guilty’ stance but this is just another level. There is no way all these babies have coincidentally died.

Prosecution: "You won't get your answers [to what Letby is like] through seeing her in the dock.

"This is what she is like six years after the allegations started. That, as you can imagine, is gruelling for anyone.

"You may want to keep that in mind as we go through the evidence in this case."

————————

This sounds like they are going to say she’s slowly gone crazy since the allegations started and they’ll try and explain the post it notes that way

It’s been said a lot on this thread to those leaning guilty “hope you’re never on a jury” blah blah
Just saying that if anyone accused of my murder is found to have a note saying I did it I’m evil I killed her on purpose… I really hope everybody explaining it away aren’t on the jury 🤣 right back at you guys 🤣
Fair enough, but the one big thing I learnt in jury service was how much I changed my mind through the course of the case.
It's really important to say doubts and talk about them in the jury room. Some people had a very different view to me and their point of view caused me to reassess.
I think any nailed on verdict now is too soon. I'm leaning to finding reasons for what hapoened that don't include LL because it wouldn't be a fair trial in my head if I had her pinned as guilty already

Just to say, the Devil NEVER needs an advocate. He always has plenty of them.
In my opinion this woman is guilty be it out of pure badness or gross incompetence. She is guilty in my eyes.

I always thought she was guilty but hearing the trial so far it’s shocking how bad the hospital is and no doubt every hospital is the same . Actually makes me think how many failings happen in hospitals and just get covered up . How many deaths have gone down as normal when they wasn’t ? Actually shocking makes me feel physically sick !!! The hospital and other staff should all be held accountable aswell for allowing Lucy to get as far as she did . Imagine being one of the parents knowing you trusted that unit and trusted them all and they all covered up what Lucy had done . Death certificates written as normal premature death when it absolutely wasn’t . Shocking those poor parents . My baby was in alder hey the guilt I had when I had to leave to have a shower or get some food was unreal but I knew I was leaving my baby in good hands . This case will have a huge impact on woman having baby’s so sad 😓

Sorry but such observations are pretty pointless at this stage - there is going to be 6 months of evidence, including medical evidence. What concrete proof (at this stage) would change your ‘gut feeling’?
Pointless or not, that is my opinion. Evidence that would change my view? Err, probably the babies still being alive. But I agree with @friedeggontoast - lets keep the conversation open.

The Facebook searching thing doesn’t make her guilty. I often search people on Facebook. Randomers I might meet. School parents, people in the news. Guess it’s a nosey kind of thing I dunno. Hard to know if she’s guilty I’m not quite sure on this one.

Incredibly ridiculously rare especially within neonates/paediatrics. I asked a consultant and they said they’d never seen on in their 40years
20 yrs as an adult nurse and only heard of one but wasn't on the ward that day. The patient did it to himself with his IV and O2 tubing.
