Re jury deliberations. We spoke about bits of evidence and how the defendant and victim were coming across when we were all in the room during the trial, but nobody declared their G/NG views until the judge sent us out. We just did a show of hands to see where we were to start with. We were very split at that point (I think it was 7:5) and so we all went around the room to say what made us feel that way. We had a couple of questions that we sent to the judge and then we had to go back in to court to get the answer from him. After a day of deliberation the judge called us back in and asked us to come to a majority of 11:1, which we couldn’t. After another day of more deliberations he asked for a 10:2 majority but again we couldn’t get there. After another few hours he called us back in to ask if we were anywhere close to a majority and the foreman told him we weren’t so he declared it a hung jury. It never went to a retrial. I am certain of the defendants guilt and my heart still breaks for the victim. I still think about her now, nearly 10 years on.
We didn’t have to stay in hotels or anything, but had to stay in the room for lunch etc. If anyone wanted a cigarette we all had to go. We were escorted to the toilet by the court usher which we hadn’t been before. Basically other than going home we had to stay together for the entirety of the deliberations from the minute we walked in to court in the morning until we left at the end of the day. I’m kind of glad really because I was a bit shocked on day 2 of the trial to be stood in the McDonald’s queue and find the defendant a couple of people behind me 😳
I imagine the jury will already have been discussing the evidence with each other because there is so much to get your head around and they can’t discuss it with anyone else. I think their deliberations will take around a week but I imagine a lot of that will be sat around making it look like they’re going through every detail because they will already know she’s 100% guilty!

I have been struggling to keep up with this thread lately so I'm just going leave it for awhile. I have some health issues which I need to get to the bottom of and honestly I'm just too anxious about it all to handle this trial at the moment. I hope to dip back in when the verdict is in. 🩷

If I don't, I just want to take the opportunity to say this has been the best online community I have been part of. The knowledge, the insights and most importantly the empathy in the face utter evil has made this horrific trial easier to follow and process.

I completely agree with your comments about this community.

Wishing you a healthy recovery and hope you enjoy all the baby cuddles.

I have a resting Lucy face and I'm seriously considering plastic surgery. 😭 Whenever I'm cross or upset with Mr WhoIsShe he'll say Don't De Niro me dear and I don't think I would cope if he suddenly discovered our Matalan queen in all her jowly glory

OK I stupidly went back onto Facebook.

Am I missing something? BM didn't present any defence witnesses. In my eyes that means they couldn't get anyone qualified to offer alternative, credible reasons for the deaths or any colleagues to give evidence in her defence. Or there is some other tactical reason which clearly doesn't involve BM being crap but does still mean LL is guilty.

Facebook peeps seem to think either BM is crap (Lolz) or someone is now saying that it was LL's decision to not have anymore defence witnesses because she's broken and can't be bothered anymore.

To me both things sound bleeping ridiculous and I refuse to believe that people are that stupid..but am I missing something or has the human race gone bleeping mental?! When I read their posts and they all sound so sure of themselves I start doubting myself. It feels like I'm being gaslit by the Facebook group!!

I’m seeing people saying that initially she did have some medical expert witnesses, but after she took the stand, her defense decided not to bring them in. Is this actually true? Or am I just reading fake news lmao? I have no clue how it all works.

The thing that they’re failing to understand is that in this case we’ve actually had a lot of witnesses. BM even had the opportunity to question them. It’s actually pretty telling that we’ve heard from so many different people and the defence couldn’t find even one of them that could say anything that would be beneficial to their case. I’m all for innocent until proven guilty and questioning evidence but It’s wilful ignorance at this point and shows a complete lack of empathy for the parents and children concerned in this case. Truly disgusting

Im on the group but it’s muted because it can be frustrating at times.

When they initally found out the defence had no other witnesses other than the plumber, didn’t they say it was because BM did such a good job and the pros was so weak he didn’t need to call any.

Then it was because BM was crap. Now Lucy didn’t want any because she’s fed up.

They’ve got their reasons for protesting her innocence and I don’t think it has anything to do with the evidence presented. They’ve managed to twist every single piece of evidence to prove her innocence and further whatever their twisted motives are. They don’t have the capacity or will to be objective, not once have any of them said ‘ouch, actually that doesn’t sound good, she shouldn’t have said/done that etc’…

To do that for 8 months must be exhausting but they clearly have alterior motives and it’s not for getting justice for those poor babies, I don’t even think it’s about their warped idea of getting justice for ‘sCaPeGoAt’ Letby either.

I think people like being difficult and obstructive for the sake of it and often just for attention.

Thanks for your insight. I’ve never done jury duty but would love to be called!

I really don’t think it’s true. I don’t think he would just sack off any expert witnesses he had lined up because Lucy said something on the stand that undermined them. I think Ben would still use the experts but say something along the lines of Lucy not being qualified to say causes of collapses and deaths. I thought this is what he was doing when he asked her about the insulin testing when he re-examined her. I honestly believe he had no one all along, or no-one with a strong enough testimony to put any doubt in people’s minds (ie yes, air can be found post mortem but on cross examination they would agree they have never seen anything like those babies before)

The guy saying she deliberately threw her defence to make some version of an Alford plea is sending me. Eventually told him he's unhinged and left the building.

I second this. Personally, I love to be anti-authoritarian and have the opposite view to others but when there’s justice for innocent dead babies at stake, to act like they do is just sickening.
The messaging of LL’s parents and BM etc. is so mortifyingly embarrassing as well, like if I’d ever done something that stupid it would keep me awake every night whilst I lay in bed and cringe, yet green-haired freak and Dick(head) Gill see nothing wrong with it.
There really is all sorts of strange folk out there. Can’t quite wrap my head around it.

Yes I went straight over after it was clear there was only the plumber's evidence, expecting them all to be eating humble pie or at least getting to grips with reality and was amazed to see they were happy about it at first 🤣

I do get the impression some of them are very proud to be "thinking outside the box" and sticking one to authority which is hilarious considering they can't see a nice looking blonde nurse being anything other than lovely!

They really think they’re the jury don’t they and that their opinion makes a difference to the case. You can’t argue with stupid. 🤣🥴

The Facebook clowns vex me so much that I HAVE to break my lurking and post about it since we're on the topic.

As people have alluded to earlier, if Sketby wasn't white and straight then I'd hedge my bets in saying the narrative on there would be very different. Hell, if she was overweight or older you can guarantee lots of those fervent defenders (especially the male ones) would be nowhere to be seen. They saw those outdated pictures of her circulated in the media and immediately frothed at the mouth to jump in and defend her honour.

That's not even getting started on the amount of ~gut feelings~ that she's not guilty in that group and constant disrespect towards the parents who MUST have been misremembering the worst time in their lives. St. Letby with her limp blonde locks could never have murdered tiny babies! It's a set up! Sewage! Unwashed cigarette hands! Hospital failings!

Perhaps they should have emailed BM's office with the sum of their cumulative gut feelings. That's sure to convince the jury!

I can’t believe you can literally study your backside off for years and work like crazy to become a doctor or barrister yet some dole monkey off Facebook can tell you in 12 seconds how tit you are at your job, insanity

It’s as if they think the jury have to deliver a verdict beyond a reasonable gut feeling

oh but our latest poll is 91.6% guilty and a 10:2 majority is 83% of the jury so we win. We got everything else right that we predicted last 8 months so my money is on our poll results not theirs 🤣🤣
