Hey New around here, first post started following at Baby D . Thanks for your hard work @Tofino wiki is great for any bits I miss.

I was camp unsure at first but since the trail started back this year and with the evidence over the last week I am definitely in the guilty camp now, although I will listen to defence with an open mind.

I looked on the NHS website to find out exactly what hypothyroidism is. (Under active thyroid) Only speculating but for me this is compelling.

From the NHS website - pregnancy complications…

“If an underactive thyroid is not treated during pregnancy, there's a risk of problems occurring. These include:
* pre-eclampsia – which can cause high blood pressure and fluid retention in the mother and growth problems in the baby
* anaemia in the mother
* an underactive thyroid in the baby
* birth defects
* bleeding after birth
* problems with the baby's physical and mental development
* premature birth or a low birthweight
* stillbirth or miscarriage

These problems can usually be avoided with treatment under the guidance of a specialist in hormone disorders (an endocrinologist). Therefore, tell a GP if you have an underactive thyroid and you're pregnant or trying to get pregnant.”

Along with fertility problems I wonder if Lucy has been pregnant in the past and possibly suffered a miscarriage? (Maybe on more than one occasion)

Women with hypothyroidism have decreased fertility, and if they conceive, they have increased the risk of abortion.

The complications bleeding, anemia, abruption placenta, issues with mental & physical developments of the baby, possibility of small or premature baby or the chance of birth defects. I feel as though she tried to inflict this on other babies too because she couldn’t have her own perfect child, IMO.

thanks for contributing. I looked it up too, I can’t say I’m a big believer in the fertility issues reasoning but interesting all the same. I think in her texts she was referencing it to explain tremors in her hands? That does correlate with the condition but I wonder if her hands were really shaking due to that made me wonder if someone had noticed it.
I wonder if it’s true that she really has that condition, I don’t know if the jury would be told or not. I do know two close relatives with thyroid stuff and they’ve 5 kids between them

I think that would be a pretty poor defence. Hypothyroidism can be easily treated by correcting the deficiency with medication.
My mum had hypothyroidism, which developed in late middle age and my niece had it from birth.
Regardless how poor a defence it would be, from what we’ve seen so far, he still might try to use it

I think it would be a risky defence as it’s basically admitting that she’s responsible but she didn’t do it on purpose. You could then also argue she was negligent if she had shaking hands that harmed babies but she continued to work and not tell anyone. I don’t think they would dare go down that road.

It’s very chilling how her knowledge allows her to target the babies potential medical weaknesses to provide a smokescreen for her wrongdoing. I’m seeing that in this baby in particular.

Definitely. The same characteristics seem very obviously there though to me, for air embolism and the other babies with bleeding. She really wants to be clever.

Haha no not illegal at all, so you don’t have to worry about fighting LL over the Matalan goodies. It deffo works as I’ve just tried it. You need to click on the link I posted, then copy and paste the link to the mail plus article into the text box on the page of the first link, and then click remove paywall and it shows the full article. I’m going to read it all now to see if there’s any extra details

It does say that Dr Noname had cared for baby N “the previous evening”. I can’t get straight whether that means before Letby got her hands on Baby N or if it’s the account that’s being given right now by unnamed doc and he’s one of a few that couldn’t intubate due to swelling

Ok this is going to be interesting. Is BM going to go for the jugular on Doctor Noname as he has everyone else? It’s part of the defence that the throat injury was caused by intubation and not observed beforehand

I thought that Dr Noname wasn’t on duty the morning of 15th June, they started messaging that morning at 6am and the prosecution say she then tried to murder him twice that day, the first attempt within 10 mins of coming on duty (or at least very shortly afterwards), and going from their messages that day, she is telling him how upset she is at him being so unwell that day (after she tried to murder him twice). This made me think did she go after him so quickly after starting her shift to garner sympathy from doctor (the sympathy texts from his replies are very similar to the ones she would get from Colleagues in the early days) which is where I thought prosecution were maybe going with this. I’ve not seen any messages from Noname saying he was the one having difficulty intubating N, so I thought Noname was not the doctor being crossed by Dr Myers today, but now wondering if I’m getting mixed up

I had figured you were referencing various stores but a keg here is like a barrel of beer bought for keg parties, picnics, etc. Women’s underwear here are panties, maybe skivvies, drawers, bloomers depending on age & area the speaker is from. Types are granny panties, hipsters, bikini, French cut, thongs and boycut. Men’s are referred to as boxers, underwear, whitey tighties, briefs, thongs, and long john’s.

Panties always makes me think of a creepy older man (no offence lol )

Just to contribute to this tangent Have any of you heard the term spelk? I thought everyone knew what it meant, but according to QI it's a Geordie thing. The word means a splinter btw. Also 'kets' meaning sweets. I didn't realise that was regional too. So confusing!

My mom has alot of British, Scottish, Irish & Welsh in her family - she is 91 and calls an ingrown nail a felon. Ever heard of that?
