If I saw things like “in a relationship” and photos of a boyfriend on a profile and the person had so far lied about it then yes I would confront them about what I had found. If he’s being hidden from us then we don’t know enough about him to be around children already considered to be vulnerable. We do the same with any information given to us, it’s professional curiosity.
May I add to this post that despite my username, I am not a nurse or a midwife :ROFLMAO:. I’m in Social Work. A nurse would never need to search for somebody on Facebook as part of their job. If they were concerned, they would make a referral to us.

I wonder how many deaths were recorded at the hospital in the specific time frame, where she wasn’t present? Also the pattern thing is confusing me, so she allegedly killed or tried to kill 17 babies over a year. That is 17 babies in 52 weeks. She went on holiday for a week with her parents and the pattern changed. There must have been many more weeks without any deaths where she was present.

Ok, want to add my two pence worth as I’ve had a idea rattling in my head as to a motive. When something as awful as this happens we always question why. To look at she looks like she couldn’t possibly Kill babies.

I have worked in the nhs for 10 years, 5 in paeds. My Mum is a very experienced neonatal nurse and midwife. I also spent several weeks in neonatal icu with my own child.

I wonder if Lucy had/has a ‘god complex’. I heard of this before but can’t remember now where. So NOT ALL but it is common for a baby to need neonatal input due to the mothers behaviour in pregnancy (drinking, smoking, drugs) general neglect. My mum often talks about looking after these babies with so much love and then knowingly discharging them to unfit homes. Social services are involved that kind of thing. I saw it myself many times, families too busy outside smoking, coming in with all their friends showing them the baby without seemingly understanding the seriousness of the situation. Uneducated families unable to properly care for their new baby. Messy family lives, unfit living conditions, I am not being judgemental, it’s just what I and my mother have seen so much with our own eyes. So much more I could say but I’m hoping you get my gist to the sort of thing. Perhaps Lucy was a very Judgemental person?

did Lucy take it upon herself to ‘save’ these babies from a life she deemed unfit? Like a god complex. Researching them on Facebook to see if they were ‘good enough’? Overly attached to these babies and seeing it as her only way to stop them going to live those lives?
Hoping someone understands that waffle and no one takes offence. Just had to get it off my chest
I think you make a really interesting point here, I’ve wondered if the parents involved fit a certain profile and if this will be brought up in the trial. It’s circumstantial, but if all of them were say from a low socioeconomic background, then that’s another red flag against LL possibly? That’s not me saying your social class determines how good of a parent you are at all, but someone with a god complex might believe that to be true.

Surely it’s about the cause of death though. She was, I’m assuming present for all the suspicous deaths that had no clear cause, or clear signs of deterioration. I imagine there sadly was other baby deaths in the neonatal unit- but these could be explained, or were poorly from birth.

This is why it’s probably took so long, proving the deaths were suspicious and not a natural deterioration. There would have been a pattern showing

Weird that it’s attempted tho and not a murder charge
I dont understand what you mean? If the child hasn't died she can't be charged with murder because death hasn't happened? But she can be charged with the attempted murder on say 3/10/22 and successful murder on 5/10/22

So sorry that happened to you it’s unbearable being separated. I worked in the place I had my baby which probably impacted my situation x

The other thing that gave me my theory was the seeming desperation to kill specific babies, if attempt 1 & 2 failed, she still tried a third attempt she didn’t move on a and try a different baby. And both twins. On all occasions she attacked both. But who knows how the mind of someone like this works.
It could be that she just had more opportunities with some of the babies. Some of them could have had a parent with them 24/7 while another baby may have been alone some of the time.

But isn’t she being charged with murdering other babies?

good point here. Whilst we were in NICU there was plenty babies left alone all day. There was a one next to us who saw no one except their nurse all day.

Everytime I see that picture of her holding a baby grow it makes me so so mad. I’ll be interested to see how this all pans out when her defence comes out

Exactly my point put much more eloquently!
I think there’s going to be a-lot to unravel in the coming weeks.

Good point. Saw lots of babies who had many other siblings at home, or who lived much further away who didn’t visit more than an hour or two a day and some days not at all. Will be interesting to find out if there was a pattern to how the victims were chosen

Thank you! I’m theatres, we have to sell our soul to get a 6 or know the right people… obviously 🙄 😉
I’m not sure about NICU, but in general ITU you need to do the ITU Course to enable you to apply for band six.

I don't think it's enough to just say she was present at the deaths. Deaths happen in hospitals, it's inevitable, but it will be the circumstances of the deaths that caused the concern, i.e. stable babies with sudden deterioration. On one shift I worked I recall one poor nurse who was looking after 4 patients, 2 of her patients arrested within a couple hours of eachother, and neither could be resuscitated. It was horrendous. These patients where awaiting cardiology beds and given bed pressures there were no cardio beds available. They were both clinically very unwell and whilst traumatic, not surprising given their medical history. It was a devastating shift. We rallied around that nurse and thankfully for her they were the only arrests she's experienced in her 15+ year career. So there will be a lot to be said for the babies condition prior to death in this circumstance I would presume.

Is it true Lucy is adopted? I read it on FB but can’t find any news that mentions it.

From what I remember about the initial investigation was that it was a pattern. They obv expect babies to die but it was the pattern along with the amount of deaths that were abnormal. That's the reason the police were called in and they would imo have enough evidence to have her found guilty. Investigations like this take a very long time because of the data gathering that needs doing. It's painstaking and boring but it's this that will be the nail in her coffin.

I 100% believe she did it.
