In my workplace, incidents were reported regularly. Staff were made to reflect on their actions, and often sent on training regarding the incident, i.e medication management. It's not unusual for a staff member to go on a supervisory period as well
As a nurse, this terrifies me and makes me sad at the same time. This is what I was referring to in an earlier comment re: nurse wrongly accused. Stepping hill hospital

Nurse wrongly accused of Stepping Hill murders: 'I was chewed up and spat out'
In her first ever newspaper interview, the innocent woman locked up and dubbed 'The Angel of Death' tells the Sunday People how she is trying to rebuild her lifewww.mirror.co.uk
Wow, thanks for that…. I wonder how stringent this Trusts procedures were with the fridge etc…. so it’s going to be really interesting to see how they’re going to account for how the insulin was administered - not to mention whether there were two signatures required and written down AND perhaps the baby didn’t even require the insulin.I’ll try my best!
That’s possible. However, insulin usually comes in a small vial that is kept in the fridge. In my trust, the fridge is locked and we do drug stock every day which includes noting how much is left in the vial. You use a syringe to take from the vial, so you’d have to be quick to unlock the fridge, draw up a syringe, then pop it back again. Also we keep our keys with a Nurse not in a locker or something, so there is accountability with that too.
In another trust I do agency in, ALL of their drugs are locked in an electric cabinet that requires fingerprint access. Counts how much is used, for which patient, at what time, by which Nurse. If £ in the NHS wasn’t a concern, this is the way forward! Takes time and is a faff, but very useful.
As for injecting air, it could maybe be through a line already in place rather than via skin with a needle! Easily done if you aren’t careful, hence why you see people flicking syringes and checking all the air is gone before administering anything. Guess a small syringe of air would be a quick, sneaky way to do it. (Which now makes anyone looking at my internet history think I sound dodgy!)
I have mentioned here before I know someone who is involved in the case.Is it wise to make comments on an ongoing case, legally speaking? I guess if it’s your family it would be hard to bite your tongue.
I know some of these fb warriors are dismissed as trolls/fakes but genuine or not, the poster makes the point I keep coming back to (second screenshot) which is this investigation seems very painstakingly done; that’s evident from the amount of charges against her, especially those repeat ones for the same baby - suggests they’ve gone through the evidence with a fine tooth comb. Imagine being law enforcement on this case, you’d like to think they’d work especially hard on getting this right given the grievous circumstances.
I think this is a very clear, coherent and sadly possible scenario. Would also be “nicer” than her “just being a murderer”.Ok, want to add my two pence worth as I’ve had a idea rattling in my head as to a motive. When something as awful as this happens we always question why. To look at she looks like she couldn’t possibly Kill babies.
I have worked in the nhs for 10 years, 5 in paeds. My Mum is a very experienced neonatal nurse and midwife. I also spent several weeks in neonatal icu with my own child.
I wonder if Lucy had/has a ‘god complex’. I heard of this before but can’t remember now where. So NOT ALL but it is common for a baby to need neonatal input due to the mothers behaviour in pregnancy (drinking, smoking, drugs) general neglect. My mum often talks about looking after these babies with so much love and then knowingly discharging them to unfit homes. Social services are involved that kind of thing. I saw it myself many times, families too busy outside smoking, coming in with all their friends showing them the baby without seemingly understanding the seriousness of the situation. Uneducated families unable to properly care for their new baby. Messy family lives, unfit living conditions, I am not being judgemental, it’s just what I and my mother have seen so much with our own eyes. So much more I could say but I’m hoping you get my gist to the sort of thing. Perhaps Lucy was a very Judgemental person?
did Lucy take it upon herself to ‘save’ these babies from a life she deemed unfit? Like a god complex. Researching them on Facebook to see if they were ‘good enough’? Overly attached to these babies and seeing it as her only way to stop them going to live those lives?
Hoping someone understands that waffle and no one takes offence. Just had to get it off my chest
Or is that for someone who will be tasked with a review of the case? One thing that confused me is this...I'm not clued up about the police force, but this job advert went up in June 2022 for a 3 year period. Does this mean they are expecting to find more cases? Are other people involved? Why is a chief inspector needed from June 22 for 3 years purely for this 'Operation'?

The twins we’ve heard about today.. They were born the same day that she killed one of them. She had only been on shift for a matter of minutes before they collapsed so I doubt she had been anywhere near the parents if mum was recovering from the birth.Ok, want to add my two pence worth as I’ve had a idea rattling in my head as to a motive. Thank you. Was struggling how to word it that wouldn’t cause offence but anyone who works in the nhs will know exactly what I mean. Even happens to me discharging elderly patients to sub standard care homes knowing they’ll probably suffer. One of the hardest parts of the job. Not that I’m excusing what she may or may not have done. I just can’t see how you could kill innocent babies let alone without a motiveI think this is a very clear, coherent and sadly possible scenario. Would also be “nicer” than her “just being a murderer”.
It is hard to manage attachment to patients, to know you have discharged to an awful environment, to manage families that are way off your personal ideal, but surely professional training kicks in at that point.
I don’t know. So difficult. But your insight is fab
So the babe was killed a matter of minutes after her shift started but the baby was only born that day? How does that add up? So she wouldn't have met the babe prior to this and done it a few mins after meeting the babeThe twins we’ve heard about today.. They were born the same day that she killed one of them. When my Baby was born she was taken straight from theatre to Picu. I went straight from theatre recovery to my babies side. I was advised against it but did it anyway in a wheelchair. So it is possible she had met the motherThe twins we’ve heard about today.. They were born the same day that she killed one of them. Said in an article earlier she’s facing 15 counts of attempted murder I found that strange considering the victimsThe number of victims - each case needs to be presented on its own merits. It's 7 murder trials and 10 attempted murder trials all at once.
She came on shift at 7:30pm, did a 30 minute handover and then baby collapsed at around 8:20. It’s all in the reports from today. So the babe was killed a matter of minutes after her shift started but the baby was only born that day? How does that add up? Multiple attempts on 1 child can be multiple charges.Said in an article earlier she’s facing 15 counts of attempted murder I found that strange considering the victims
They took my son to the icu and I went to the ward didn’t know I could have been there til later onWhen my Baby was born she was taken straight from theatre to Picu. Good point maybe found out she was infertile or something? I could never work in peads, I have worked in EOL but that's the elderly , babies dying just isn't the natural order of things for me. I'm full of admiration for people who can work in those environments I'd find it too emotionally painful.Ok, want to add my two pence worth as I’ve had a idea rattling in my head as to a motive. Wow. Thank you. The details really make it seem so much more real and heartbreaking don't they. She came on shift at 7:30pm, did a 30 minute handover and then baby collapsed at around 8:20. It’s all in the reports from today.
Weird that it’s attempted tho and not a murder chargeMultiple attempts on 1 child can be multiple charges.
Sure I’m just saying we cant say either way whether the evidence is strong or notIt’s just been one day of evidence though..
So sorry that happened to you it’s unbearable being separated. I worked in the place I had my baby which probably impacted my situation xThey took my son to the icu and I went to the ward didn’t know I could have been there til later on![]()
