The figures that we’ve seen that say something like
2015 8 deaths
2016 5 deaths

I’m wondering if maybe they are accurate they just exclude the deaths in this case. So I’m thinking 13 for 2015 and 7 for 2016?

On a serious note, I’ve worked in places where half the nurses sounded just like the last few pages of this thread.

If your face didn’t fit (I.e. too old, too brown, not clarted in contour and highlights for a night shift) you were ignored, didn’t get your breaks allocated fairly, didn’t get the help you should have with patients.

Nursing can be intense, if you make a mistake, people die. I think a lot of younger women don’t have much of an identity outside work and the culture on some units can be absolutely vicious.

I’m starting to think Letby is guilty, but there is nothing wrong with taking your work seriously, enjoying the company of older colleagues, going on holiday with your parents or wearing horrible tops. Maybe she had a three bedroom house cos she didn’t spend all her wages doing keys in £200 dresses?

I am old and have never fitted in anywhere, I also did waste all my money on clothes and having a good time so I’m not feeling personally attacked. I’ve just worked in some toxic places and feel a bit sad that the thread has slid into similar “let’s pile on the frump”. It doesn’t make you prettier if you say she looks tit.
Fair point.... I'd like to think that most of us are making fun of ourselves in some ways really though!! BUT I still agree with what your saying.
I would have struggled to fit in most of my life, but I do find the jokes about kitten heels, uggs and Pandora bracelets funny!! (I could never afford the uggs but my Boyf did gift me a Pandora!! Which I adored!!)

Tbh do character references actually mean much? For example there are woman married to pweirdos for years with no idea and a lot say their husband would never do such a thing but they do.
I don't hold much stock in them and I personally don't think they have any place in court.

Oh my bleeping god! Where I worked, there was a huge ward social life, where people in their 30s went out with the people in their 50s, all dressed like they raided the Peacocks sale, and even used to go on holiday together which were on Facebook as #roadtrip. I was a bit of a pariah for having no desire to get involved, having a young kid and having done all that stuff in my 20s with people my own age, and my own friends to go away with. It was like work was their entire life.

I always thought it was me that was weird for not fitting in...turns out it was bloody them 😱🤪
Sounds like my idea of hell.

the panorama program about the MH hospital somewhere in Manchester was absolutely horrific. Don’t understand why people go into caring jobs just to abuse their power
Working in MH, I'm quite unflappable compared to most but I had to switch that program off. It made me so angry and upset. The moment you stop caring about these patients as people is the time to turn it in and unfortunately when a toxic culture is allowed to flourish it can be so hard to go against. I feel very fortunate to work in an environment where people are caring.

majority of them were vile!! The patients families must feel so guilty after thinking their family members were in the best place.

I don't know, but that's an interesting question actually because adding to what you say, would a unit be expected to have the same number of deaths each year?
If 5 murders took place in 2015 and 2 in 2016 then they are saying that there were 3 natural deaths in both those years (which would be the same as 'norm'). Are they being accurate in that figure?

Maybe I've missed something but I hope that makes sense.

I’m sure they will include the babies in this case and then yes the figures left would be much more like the norm.

They were investigating 17 deaths between march2015 and June 2016, the figures I’ve seen show a total of 13 for the whole two years, which just doesn’t make sense, I really hope they clarify this at some point

Maybe they were investigating deaths of babies that were at Chester but died at the hospitals they were transferred to?

This is a FOI request. The combined total for early and late neonatal deaths for 2015 and 2016 was 17. Maybe they were all in the March 2015-june 2016 period

So out of the 17 deaths she’s been charged with 7 of them. The other 10 are obviously a concern. I think we will hear about them one way or another after the trial but if she’s guilty then I do think she has more victims.

It’s great to finally have that answered. So thank you
She surely can’t have been present at the other 10,
I don’t know myself but don’t you think her presence at any of the other 10 would have been enough to present something in court?

Not at the risk of the other cases. They wouldn't want to bring incidents that were too weak evidence wise as they could result in the jury finding her Not Guilty for all of them.
I believe they proceeded with cases that they knew were the strongest in the hope of getting her convicted and put away.

A lot of people think there is barely any evidence in the cases that have got this far! I’m going to guess that the other babies were more poorly than these and therefore a lot harder to prove. I would bet my house on there being more once she’s convicted of these. Time will tell I guess.

Purely speculating here because we haven’t heard all the evidence yet but it looks like they are using medical records and other evidence to place Lucy in the room just before baby collapses. Maybe she was on shift but they couldn’t place her in the room? Like @IdeletedbutI'mbackagain said they may not want to take any risk with weaker cases.

There was an 8th charge that was dropped only in June (so she was cleared of murder, judge directed she was found not guilty) because prosecution said they were ‘offering no evidence’ which I think is interesting wording.

That was the baby that died later at AP hospital right? Feel very sorry for the parents there really 😰

I wonder if with the 8th they were trying their luck because she happened to be around at the time but no expert evidence?
It would be interesting to know about the deaths not included and what made them different- I know we won't but just for my own curiosity I'd like to know whether they died of clear reasons, whether there were some which could be attributed to the state of the ward or whether there were also some unclear ones but LL wasn't around.
Even if she is guilty of all the deaths she's charged with, there would still have been an increase in the other deaths wouldn't there? I find different numbers everytime I check.

They are not looking to pin every death that occured in the unit to Letby. That's not the goal here.
There have been deaths that have clearly (in the eyes of the experts who have spoken) been unnatural and had foul play and the goal is to put the person who deliberately harmed these babies behind bars so they can never do it again.
That person according to the prosecution's evidence is Letby. They are not trying to stick unreleated deaths to her.

I know they aren't and we won't hear about them because they're not relevant to the case, I'm just saying I'd just like to know a bit more about those circumstances for my own curiosity.

That’s what has been said but I don’t know where that has come from?
I feel really sorry for the parents too, especially if it’s true she’s still up for attempted murder on their baby.

Ah okay sorry! I thought when you said they were "trying their luck" that you thought they were trying to add a few other deaths on even if she had nothing to do with them!! 🙈

then the insulin case where she’d left the hospital seems abit out of place to me, surely her presence is stronger than saying she had access to a bag?, I also think witnesses would be able to place her in the room aswell in the other incidents, I know she’s said to have used different methods but wouldn’t the rash/mottling have been present in at least some of the other cases and somebody would have seen it? I know somebody else mentioned these babies maybe being more poorly so there deaths could have been put down to other causes and therefore harder to prove, but given the pattern, it would strengthen case surely the more deaths she’s present at the more likely she is to be guilty?

If you guys are right and they’re going to pursue other cases after she’s convicted then I’m assuming they won’t mention the others during the trial?
