Looks like a bit of a juice head. Could the drug driving charge refer to steds? They're always angry horrible guys too.

I've seen people saying GBH with intent and attempted murder both have life imprisonment as max sentence so they likely picked the GBH as it would be easier to prove
Yep, S.18 GBH is discretionary life sentence. Loads of aggravating factors, so he'll be looking at a long sentence.

His best bet is to plead guilty at the first magistrates hearing tomorrow, he would at least get some time off the whopping sentence he will get. Very little chance of bail prior to trial either.

(Police/CPS can seek additional charges later, they'll have charged him with what they think they can get a conviction for immediately).

People are leaving flowers at the scene.
Have been since earlier in the week. Loads outside Hooters yesterday, strangely. And all up Water St.

Probably social media taken down by the family, and if so it’s the right thing to do. The guy sounds like an absolute bleep, and he deserves what’s coming to him. Know who’s fault that is? His.
Not his wife (still don’t care if she’s a Sunday school teacher), not his kids, not his neighbours who think he’s salt of the earth for fixing their burglar alarm. There is literally no mitigation for what he done.
his wife and kids deserve privacy too, though.
And whether you agree with me or not, he deserves the right to a fair trial - people online feel so entitled to ALL the information. But that’s not how it works - they’ll be the same ones spouting off if the charges don’t stick, or the jury are biased based on everything that’s been plastered on social media.

Maybe I’m off the mark but all the articles saying he was a good neighbour, dedicated family man, wife a Sunday school teacher. Just seems like trying to sympathise with him and no way would the articles be like that if he wasn’t white. I don’t usually go in for racial stuff but I can see it before my own eyes here. Like Dave said “if he’s white give him a chance, he’s ill and confused, if he’s black (or…) he’s probably armed you see him and shoot”. Just my take.

I hope for his family’s sake he pleads guilty. They will be social pariahs in the area now - through no fault of their own.
I also hope that no one tries to target them or their home - they must be heartbroken.

The threshold for GBH is a lasting injury - from a broken bone to life changing. I suspect he’ll be looking at more than 10 years even if he pleads guilty.

Definitely. His solicitor/barrister will probably have told him to plead guilty, there must be loads of footage from CCTV and mobiles of him committing the offence. However, people who commit serious offences are often gob heads and won't listen.

If he puts the families through a trial, the judge will add it to all the other aggravating factors and he'll be getting a long term.

Most people fight it in the hope they get a bit of a concession, they feel like once people hear their side it will be ok. That’s a risky gamble.

Yeah, I have to explain that to my students as they often don't understand why people opt to plead not guilty and go to a jury trial.

I point out that people who have committed offences triable in a crown court often have very poor judgement in the first place, and that some of them then think that the jury will be on their side. Conviction stats don't bear this out, though!

It is, and his lawyer will likely go down the ‘served his country, good family man, god botherer’ rit as if any of that makes a difference.

About 10 or so years ago, my line manager killed his wife. That’s what his defence done, all the previous exemplary character etc etc, and his sentence was life with a minimum term of 12 years before parole. That’s nothing for murdering someone in cold blood.

his wife worked for the crown office and they appealed his sentence for being too lenient.
if he got a dozen years for that, then I’d be surprised if this knobber got much more.

Previous good character should not have any impact on sentencing. Once you murder someone, previous good character means absolutely nothing.

It’s the usual. If it’s a black or brown person they are evil terrorists who should be sent back to where they come from (which is probably just down the road). If it’s a white person they must be ill. What happened to them that lead to this?

I went to a big sporting event at Twickenham last month. I’d booked parking nearby and when I arrived about an hour and half before kick off I was horrified to realise my sat nav was taking me directly past the stadium where thousands of people were heading to. I drove very slowly feeling super anxious and at the end of the match I hung around the stadium for a while to let the crowd die down before sitting and reading in my car for an hour or so before I drove home. Too many people get really aggressive, really quickly when they are behind the wheel of a car. I wonder if behind closed doors his wife thinks he’s a lovely bloke 🤔

They could also throw up something he experienced on active duty that caused him to act that way, like PTSD ? We don’t know what his medical history is or why the sudden change in media reporting ( basically non existent today) why the drugs charges have vanished and the original charges have been downgraded to an extent.

Jeez don’t shoot the messenger 😳
Sorry, I didn’t mean it to sound like I was attacking you - a bit more context around why it’s helpful to know would have made your comment a bit clearer.
