I think that’s a theory that’s been spoken about. He kicked off in the lobby as they wouldn’t let him access the pool, so he went and trashed his room and tried to jump in the pool from the balcony?

Re Maya. Her claims don’t lose merit just because he has sadly died. To be blunt, the talk surrounding his death only adds to her narrative that he was unstable. I haven’t followed it much but at the end of the day, her experience is her experience and she should be free to discuss it regardless. We have a polite habit in society of positively eulogising the dead which is respectful but at the end of the day everyone has their faults. Liam wasn’t perfect as much as his fans wanted to believe he was, he wasn’t. Nobody is. It can’t have been easy for Maya to make the decision to share her story, some of these fandoms are so unhealthily invested in their idols so to speak out must have taken courage and she shouldn’t be slated for doing so because of his death.

I guess we’ll see what the truth is as the weeks go on. She said he sent her harassing text messages didn’t she from multiple phones so I assume she’ll have evidence of this to back up her side of the story. Whether she chooses to continue to share her story after his death is up to her but she should be allowed to without any judgement and blame.

In her book said, he wouldn’t threaten her that he’d jump of the balcony when he was in one of his rages. He’d call her family claiming he was going to die. He’s put so much trauma on Maya.

The whole ‘celebrity’ industry is so hedonistic and abusive. Carefully curated to appeal to the masses and extract money. It’s always been that way for sure but it’s particularly disgusting now.

And I can’t listen to celebs who wax lyrical about social justice and ethics whilst snorting half of Colombia.

The sad truth is, just because someone is famous and you’re a fan of them or whatever, doesn’t mean they’re this flawless, great human being. I hope his ex has plenty of support, as his crazy fans are going to come after her and blame her. She is not to blame. If someone is being abusive or manipulative, you have every right to call them out for it. He was an adult, with access to the best mental health treatment and rehab money could buy. I’ve seen people desperate for help, stuck on NHS waiting lists, lose their lives because they just haven’t had any support or help.
I’m not diminishing that it’s sad and a total waste of a life, but I’m not going to retroactively pretend he was a great person because of what’s happened. There’s a toxic narrative around mental illness that’s become pervasive in certain corners online in recent years, that basically says you have to put up with bad behaviour and abuse if someone is going through a hard time or has a mental illness, because it might push them over the edge if you don’t. This is coming from someone with a mental illness. It’s no excuse.

I don’t think he could handle fame. He came across as a bit of a bellend lately but to me he came across as very insecure. He probably wasn’t a bad guy. Maybe his ego got over inflated but I think he was probably very lost at the same time. Like someone else said here, his career wasn’t taking off as well as some of his bad mates. Maybe he thought a bad boy drug taking image would get him some notoriety… that’s just my speculation though not saying it’s fact. It is sad when you see videos of him with when he’s probably being more himself, instead of an image he might’ve been trying to portray. RIP

chapell roan was being torn apart recently for making that point but i completely agree with both her and you. aside from the parasocial-ness of it all, the fan is basically trauma dumping on a complete stranger who may not be in any mental capacity to hear that. there’s a similar video with daniel radcliffe at the stage door going through a similar interaction and i don’t know how you (as the celeb) deal with that kind of thing on a day to day basis for years. the absolute emotional weight of it.

There used to be a Twitter account called 'Harry, my cat died' which logged instances of One Direction fans telling Harry Styles their cat / dog / grandma / best friend had died, on Twitter.

It was relentless. While I doubt Harry saw even a fraction of those sorts of posts, it's a weird responsibility to be placed on someone's shoulders.

I think it unfortunately brings out the worst in people. When nobody is telling you no and willing to praise you no matter what, it’s a toxic combination

Simon Cowell and the industry in general have a lot to answer for. With the best will in the world, One Direction were selected from obscurity, 4 ordinary children at the time (14/15), not particularly talented but had a certain look and very malleable. OK, they weren't on the front line in Afghanistan but they had gruelling schedules, lost their anonymity, yes, made tit loads of money but fame at such a young age must be a head duck for anyone. Add to that access to unlimited booze, drugs etc. Then, when their star fades and they are no longer a group, no wonder he went off the rails, probably a mixture of boredom and feeling overwhelmed. And I suspect the support is minimal, if there is any at all. As long as Cowell inflates his coffers, who gives a tit? This was so preventable and yet so expected at the same time.

I had a soft spot for Liam. For a time he & Cheryl lived in Surrey not far from me (but in a posh part) and locals who saw him out and about said he was a pleasant & friendly guy. RIP Liam.

My thoughts are with the poor young boy having to be told that Dad chose drugs/alcohol over being a parent to him. And the woman having to break that news to him and break his heart.

I really don't think he was the person that people wanted him to be in their heads. And the news coverage this morning is too saccharine for my taste.

God love him, he was a bit of a lost soul. The strange accents he would put on, it was like a parody act as he didn't know who he really was, I suppose fame at a young age will do that. I always wonder why those struggling with fame don't just go back to their normal life, but I doubt it's that easy and when you have been propelled to fame so young, you don't know any other way. The world thinks they own you and you feel like you owe them something. I don't know anything really about the ex's claims, but still a shock and a shame all round.

I wouldn't blame simon cowel or celebrity as theres zero guarantee if he wasn't famous that he wouldn't have had the same demons. I've known too many people taken too early.
