I think it unfortunately brings out the worst in people. When nobody is telling you no and willing to praise you no matter what, it’s a toxic combination
He looked like he hung around with bad people tbh. His current girlfriend looked like a right user as well judging by her TikTok posts.

He was an adult, with access to the best mental health treatment and rehab money could buy. I’ve seen people desperate for help, stuck on NHS waiting lists, lose their lives because they just haven’t had any support or help.
i agree with 90% of your post but i don’t really think this point is fair (to him or any other wealthy people struggling with any variety of issues). money doesn’t “cure” anything and you can still continue spiralling even if you have access to the best treatment in the world. if anything, it can feel differently because you have so many people saying why are you still like this, you have enough cash to go to the best rehab, get the best treatment and support, why are you still struggling etc etc etc. it’s not an entirely fair comparison.

i absolutely agree with you and other posters that, in his case, the whole thing (his personality, fame, not being as famous as he thought he should be, struggling with bandmates’ fame in comparison, the people around him) was just an absolutely toxic combination.

I watched 2 recent podcasts with him on one with Steven Bartlett & one with Jake Paul & in both of them I just felt as if he was a lost soul, I got the impression that he thought he was a 'bigger star' than he really was, as if he was in the same vain as Harry Styles, he was touted when he left 1D as the next Justin Bieber, but nothing really came of it & that must be hard on your well being, even watching the podcasts I felt as if the way he was was only going to end one way, 😔, but no disrespect to him but for GMTV to call him a 'music legend', & he 'set the marker down in music history' really???? He was hardly a John Lennon, Prince or Michael Jackson , but at least now he is free from his demons 😔

My thoughts are with the poor young boy having to be told that Dad chose drugs/alcohol over being a parent to him. And the woman having to break that news to him and break his heart.

I really don't think he was the person that people wanted him to be in their heads. And the news coverage this morning is too saccharine for my taste.

I don't think he 'chose' alcohol and drugs over his son; addiction is a complex beast and sometimes the voices in your head become all too much - he certainly will not have been thinking rationally.

As someone who had a bipolar partner it screams bipolar to me with how he acts, periods where he seems to be getting his life together and then it all falling apart again and him acting erratic. Not uncommon for them to go to drugs and alcohol while in a hypo/manic and he seems like he’s not been in a good way for a while now.

My ex was very similar in the way Maya has described him to be, but then could also be the loveliest person when he was stable. But he’d get manic and angry and do horrible things then come back down, go in to depression and be sorry and say he was going to kill himself. Also the interviews where he is very full of himself is prime bipolar behaviour with the feelings of grandeur.

It is sad, his girlfriend left 2 days ago and her tik tok made it seem like she had definitely had enough with whatever was going on, and when someone is manic you absolutely cannot get through to them, but her leaving would’ve sent him even worse (not that she is to blame in any way, as it’s a bloody difficult place to be in when someone is like that)

Judging by his behaviour leading up to this I think he was definitely manic (and that can be bought on by stress such as Maya exposing him) and on drugs and either it was an intentional jump to end his life or he may have truly believed he was invincible and could just fly off that balcony (extreme I know but witnessing someone in a bipolar manic is wild and the things they truly believe about themselves you just can’t comprehend)

Very sad for all involved 😔

I hadn't heard much about him in recent years, but can't help wondering if the poor guy would still be alive and well, if One Direction had never happened. I know it's pointless saying that. But the sudden fame and riches and all that goes with it, must be quite difficult to deal with, and then it all stops, when the band split up.

May he rest in peace, and I hope that those who mourn him, including his young son, will find comfort, in time, in good memories.

When I woke up this morning, my phone accidentally opened Apple News and I actually thought I was going mad to see that Liam died. He’s been in the news a lot, obviously through what Maya’s said and many people on social media commenting on the events and his behaviour. Like others have said, there’s been a dark shadow forming but never would I ever expect death. I didn’t agree with his views, but his death is extremely sad because it brings back so many memories many people had through listening to One Direction’s music.

They created a bond for fans that is really unexplainable, young and older fans are connected and they had such a strong fandom even to this day. It was clear he needed help, even if he had all this money in the world, it doesn’t mean anything when you feel so alone and like no one is listening. It’s like assuming being rich means you’re less likely to be depressed. What’s absolutely disgusting is going to Maya’s Instagram account and seeing so many people blame her. They should be ashamed, a little boy, a mum and dad, two sisters and a girlfriend, plus the One Direction boys have lost someone that was a huge part of their lives. It doesn’t matter if he was an idiot most of the time, now isn’t the time to blame anyone. She doesn’t deserve this hate, she didn’t kill him ffs, she just spoke of what happened between the two.

I know that death happens to us all eventually but in some ways we think celebrities are invincible to this natural part of life and Liam’s death has been such a shock, especially as he was young. I hope now he’s resting in peace and no longer fighting demons.

Had he ended up making the live shows for X Factor in 2008 he'd have probably still had a decentish music career, as his look at the time was very on-trend and the whole 'Baby Buble' thing he had going on would have been very marketable.

I know it's been a long-time since his first foray into X Factor, but crikey - the idea of putting 14 year olds under that level of scrutiny (it's hard to remember just how big X Factor was 2008-2010) is almost barbaric.

Remember when Louis did a live performance a day or two after his mum died? Simon Cowell and everyone were like 'He *wants* to do it' but it was so clear at the time that the performance should have been pulled, he was in no fit state. All they ever cared about was ratings.

Yeah I understand what you mean. However I think Liam knew he wanted to be famous from a young age hence appearing on X Factor twice. If it hadn’t of worked out for him a second time, I don’t think he would have stopped there and would’ve tried one way or another - maybe that’s why he said it was his “Dad’s dream”, not his, because he didn’t want to be caught out for being so desperate for fame. I also recall him being bullied at school so maybe that’s why he wanted to be famous so bad, for acceptance perhaps? To not feel like the outcast?

And then when he finally did get it, he had his dream life, which then ended when they split up whilst the likes of Harry, Niall go on to be individual global stars which I think Liam just wanted so bad. I don’t think he coped at all with seeing his peers living the dream life he’s obviously always wanted. Then it’s back to feeling like the outcast again.

he's the male caroline flack. he's had the piss taken out of him on videos by a multitude of celebrities over the year - limmy, justin hawkins etc. there was a video put up the ther day - liam payne - try not to cringe video. he's saw all these and he's finally flipped and jumped.

limmy has made so many of these videos, he's now disabled comments underneath his videos

His poor son. Regardless of what has happened or how it’s happened it is heartbreaking for his son and family.

I think all we can do on here when things like this happen and we discuss them, is talk from our own personal experiences. It’s not my intention to diminish the struggles of wealthier people. But it’s tragic that the topic of money even has to come into these discussions. I’ve lost more than one person because they’ve been begging for help and left to rot on waiting lists, that’s what makes me angry - it’s not Liam’s fault, it’s a general commentary on the state of mental health care

I hope Maya has a good network of people around her. Suffering from mental illness, however hard, is not an excuse to be abusive and to create trauma for another human. She has every right to stand tall with her words. Unfortunately people are going to eulogise because it’s an untimely death and forget that Liam clearly put Maya through some tit. I doubt many fans will have the self awareness to decide that just because someone is famous and/or has been kind to them in the past, doesn’t mean they are an overall good person. It’s a sad loss as he’s young and had so much time to try and iron out his issues, be a father etc, and my sympathy goes to his family and his son.

I wouldn’t have classed Niall as a global star. Harry for sure but not Niall

Imagine telling his son his dad chose drugs and alcohol over him ..

1 - You’d have to be a seriously malicious and spiteful excuse of a person to think that let alone say it, and to a child.
2 - it’s not true. Drug abuse is not chosen over parenthood, it’s a toxic coping mechanism that wrecks lives. As we see.

He loved his son and his son loved him. Trashing that relationship the day he died says a lot more about the people doing it than it does him.

Poor little Bear my heart hurts for him. 😞

No in 2021 he was threatening Maya he was going to jump off a balcony while off his bits on it then chased her with an axe. He's had thoughts about jumping off balconies for a few years. He was taken to rehab sadly he started using again. The biggest drug in Argentina is Paco which is by products of coke it gives a very potent high and needs to be smoked.
It's no one's fault , unfortunately he had a bad reaction to drugs.
