Anyone get any Lego for Christmas? I got the Polaroid camera (very cute) and the treehouse (which was number one on my wish list).
My son has finished the Milky Way tonight and it’s super cool. Maybe my favourite set. I really want to build it myself!

I love the way they use random bricks/have introduced texture in this set. I am tempted but my house isn’t really “hello here’s a Milky Way” so hoping they do some more of these!!
I got the tuxedo cat for Christmas - finished building it today - it’s the absolute twin of my own cat so I feel it was made for me 
There are so many new sets coming out this year, especially the Botanicals (the small orchid, which I think is already out, the pink bouquet and a few others too) and loads of Creator 3-in-1 animal sets: adult and baby panda ( which can also be an adult and baby penguin and an orca), the beige/tan rabbit ( also a llama and a seal cub) and the flamingo/axolotl/parakeet.
I want to get them all as presents for a friend whose favourite flowers are orchids ( I got her the large set for her last birthday, she loved them), then the panda will be for my nephew, the flamingo for my best friend ( her favourite animal), and the rabbit for my niece‘s 1st birthday, so her dad can build the llama for her.
Oh, and the City camping car as it has a couple with a baby, and my sister and brother in law often borrow her inlaws’ caravan/motor home and have a baby girl ( the one getting the rabbit set), so that will make a great present for brother in law’s birthday. I found the dozen roses Botanical set for 20% off last summer, so that is my sister’s birthday present sorted.
There is also a baby T Rex that is orange, which will be perfect for the dinosaur/dragon obsessed 6 year old I nanny, who will be getting gifts all based on those themes.
The ankylosaurus had better not be discontinued as that will make a perfect present for a boy I tutor who will also be turning 7 this summer who is equally dinosaur mad!
I am so sad the Paris and London postcards have been discontinued, as they made such great gifts too!

Every year I get a new Christmas set and display them as part of our Christmas decorations. So far I have built the Elf clubhouse, Santas visit and Main Street. I break them down and then I will rebuild again in December.

My son got lots of Lego Harry Potter sets for Christmas and his birthday which I might ‘help’ him with!
Gosh, with the light kits it is even more stunning! I haven't done a Lego kit for years but could see myself doing that one.There are some really cool add-on lighting kits for that set, if you can stand to insert all the fiddly little wires!

Are lighting kits in general worth it?
Ah, hello, son with a Christmas birthday! Same here.
I really enjoyed the Milky Way, and Hokusai The Great Wave, too.
They can look stunning on certain sets, if you like to leave the sets out and on display long term ... a lot of the buildings e.g. the Home Alone set look great with lights.
Someone I know owns a small countryside town cinema and he's got tons of lego on display in the foyer (in glass cases) many with light kits and it looks great. The kids coming to see the films love them.
A lot of the kits come in two variants, without remote and with remote control, usually the exact same lights, but the remote lets you turn different parts of the lighting on or off, or set some of the lights to flash or something like that. It's usually about £10 extra for the kit with remote and I'd always go for that.
BUT what I've found is that the kits are fiddly as hell. The wires are so so thin, they have to be because they usually get threaded through tiny existing gaps or just sandwiched between bricks in a wall or something. And in doing so they can make the model a little bit weak in places where the wires are sandwiched like that. And in all the kits I've had the light kit instructions assume the set is already built rather than something you add in as you go along. So I've found them pretty frustrating to add in. In particular the old Christmas wreath from before this year's one, I had two of the wreath sets so I bought two of the lighting kits. After adding the first one I was so fed up of the fiddliness and how fragile it generally made the wreath, I never went back and did the second one.
