That's brilliant well done In my head kinda thought the same once I have the car ill get the hang of but not turning out that way

What is the issue you’re having? There’s an Irish guy who does YouTube videos for common errors. I had wile trouble with my steering because I used to do these weird little shifts with my hands rather than doing it smooth. And my instructor never taught me to park so I watched the YouTube videos for that too. He’s honestly really good. The other thing I was bad with was my spacial awareness but that just comes over time. I still panic that I’m going to be flattened by a massive tractor or something

On the theory test, is the hazard perception test that much different to the ones that are found in the practice apps? I have the Theory Test app and the Driving Test app.

I’m glad this thread popped back up today. I basically went back through and read it all a few weeks ago while in the midst of angst over my lessons haha.
I am 36 and I have had so many on off attempts at learning to drive it’s embarrassing. Ultimately stopped each time due to consuming anxiety and stress over it.
took another batch of lessons last year while pregnant and actually did my first test - failed but was amazed at the boost to my confidence ironically enough. Compared to lessons I found the test pretty relaxed and I didn’t drive badly just made a stupid error and went too fast in a housing estate (20mph limit).

Took a break while I had the baby and then bit the bullet and booked more lessons in March this year. Finally got the instructor I wish I’d had years ago who has taught me brilliantly and kept me so calm.

My test is tomorrow!!! I feel as ready as I possibly can be but starting to think oh no I hope I haven’t forgotten how to drive….I really hope it’s a pass as it will change my life and let me do so much more with the baby. But let’s see. Sorry this was long haha.

What car will you be doing your test in as this is the car you should most practice if poss. If you can drive a bigger car, you’ll have no problem then moving to a smaller car after. If you’re new to lessons, you will learn the size of the car. Don’t doubt yourself. It’s just practice.

I think I'll be doing the test in the instructors car. It has a rear camera so that makes things easier. I'm on my 7th lesson and corners have been the worst part. Even parallel parking was easier than corners - I really struggle with the tight 90 degree corners, even at snail's pace I clip the back tyre.

Does anyone know what insurance you need when learning to drive in your own car that you are the keeper of? I've just got my own car and I'm confused. Can you get temporary learners insurance as and when you want to drive it with somewhere like veygo even though there's not a main full policy on the car. I thought I can do this but a friend says you can't do that and you need a full annual learners policy to learn in your own car

The instructors have insurance so you just pay for your lessons - usually cheaper if you book them in block. I would book a 1 or 2 hour lesson to see if you like the instructor first before committing! Your Mum will need you on her insurance so you can drive (with her) in between lessons.

Well done for getting out there!!! does the fiat (i’m sure that’s what you said you have) not have a hill start assist? I hate trying to get going on a hill, I stalled loads doing it in lessons to begin with

Thank you! I don’t know if the model I have has it, it is a Fiat 500 (2011) 1.2 Lounge. I was the same during the lessons so I am sure once I get used to the car I’ll be okay, hopefully.

excellent news - congratulations!!!

i know what you mean about the examiner I felt the difference with the second one too and it felt very clear and calm.

As for me I’ve been driving for a month now and I’m finally starting to feel a bit better about driving alone in my car been doing short ish routes and just building up, getting used to the feel of a different car. But a couple of times recently I’ve felt like I’ve enjoyed it! Miracles do happen

Congratulations! Confused about your first minor though (not quibbling just curious!) - my instructor told me 3rd or below for roundabouts, how on Earth are you supposed to do 60mph on a roundabout?!
