I’m asking you to elaborate on what you are struggling with to try to offer you some advice/help. If you don’t want the help - that’s fine. But don’t be rude!

I'm not being rude but people keep saying oh it's automatic it's easy and it's not helping been told that if it was easy I wouldn't be asking for advice

I recommend this guys videos before, they are very helpful. Alot of the time its getting the sequence of maneuvers and observations right and once they become 2nd nature you feel more confident. It's hard when you don't have anybody to practice with but keep going. Get comfortable in your car. Sit in it, practice turning it on and off, reversing on a drive etc.Get to know your secondary controls and under the bonnet so that you know it well. Those things will help too.

bought the testi app at the start of this year and i think there's been 6 test slots come up in those 11 months i've had the app for. not sure if my area is an extreme case, but i genuinely cannot fathom how people are managing to get tests

Does anyone else get criticism for going too fast? Is this common? It's all I'm hearing when driving!
I never thought this would be me, I thought I'd be too terrified to go anything above 20mph but apparently I'm too quick. But when I'm driving I feel like I'm going slow and have to keep watching the speedo. I feel as though I'm watching the speedo more than the road itself!

Agree with others, just start fresh in your instructors car, I went in my boyfriends car the night before my first lesson when I picked up driving again and it just made me feel so much more nervous as I couldn't coordinate myself to move off properly! My first lesson was fine and the instructor will ask you about any driving experience you have, they teach all sorts of people with all levels of experience, so nothing to worry about!

Also I have a positive update! I had my test this morning and I passed - 4 minors I'm so happy!!My feedback was about my pulling up on the left hand side (they were all so bad I was convinced I was gonna fail on that lol) and then I was a bit silly with gears a couple of times. I still can't believe I've passed but just so happy to have that weight off my shoulders.

Now to navigate getting insured on my boyfriends car

Had anyone ever got hypnotism for driving test ?,done test 4 times and nerves get me every time,was tempting to get medication for ot but didnt want to make me drowsy,tried rescue remedyl Didnt work

I've not done hypnosis but I have done visualisation and meditation for passing my test

Far?? You sound very new to driving.

again, can you explain why exactly roundabouts scare you? Do you understand how they work/where you go/what you do and what other road users are doing?

I’m doing an intensive course at the moment and have my test in 2 weeks…don’t think I’ve ever felt anxiety like it and keep doubting myself! I think I’m a good driver but sometimes make the silliest and annoying mistakes. Thought I’d enjoy it a lot more than I have too… feels like a chore!

Does anyone know what insurance you need when learning to drive in your own car that you are the keeper of? I've just got my own car and I'm confused. Can you get temporary learners insurance as and when you want to drive it with somewhere like veygo even though there's not a main full policy on the car. I thought I can do this but a friend says you can't do that and you need a full annual learners policy to learn in your own car

My daughter got an learners insurance policy on her own car with me as named driver as she was driving to college and back every day with me supervising. cost me around £32 a month. If you use compare the market and state you only have a provisional licence it will compare learner insurance for you

not one single test available to book in my area, have had the cancellations app for about 4-5 months and there's been around 4 cancelled tests released in that time. absolutely crazy, not sure what we're actually meant to do?

If you haven’t got anyone to take you out, why did you get a car?? Just curious!

Can you speak to your instructor and try to make a plan to work on the things you feel aren’t clicking? So for example if you are struggling with parallel parking could you ask to spend a lesson just drilling that, until you can do it, and work through the things that way? Instead of maybe just driving aimlessly around?


It could also be an instructor thing. You just may not be clicking with yours and not finding it that easy to learn from how they are trying to teach it?

Because loads of people told me oh when ypu get your car ill take you out but when it comes down to it they don't so sick of asking people and I thought having the car would help instead of always the instructors

Yes maybe ne t week ill ask just work on things I need to not driving around in circles

Hi I’m looking for some advice on my situation. I’ve had 19 lessons now in manual car, and I’m beginning to fear my instructor is taking me for a ride. I’ve only done crossroads, major crossroads, mini roundabouts, some dual carriageway. That’s it.

My family were shocked when they found out I’m 19 lessons in and I haven’t done a single manoeuvre or even a proper roundabout. I don’t know if I’m just really bad, or the instructor is milking me for money. I am quite anxious and my reactions aren’t the fastest. But the more I read about driving lesson amounts (mumsnet, studentroom) the more I think why am I progressing so slowly. There’s a mumsnet thread where someone posted similar to me, and the people responding were raging on the posters behalf, saying they were being scammed.

Honestly don’t know what to think. Instructor is talking about me doing my test in late May (started beginning of September). 2 hours lessons weekly until May seems a crazy amount. It’s like another 40 hours on top of the 20 I’ve already done. What do you think? Should also add that the instructor has good reviews, and people saying they passed in 20-30 hours with them.

Any tips for someone who still gets nervous behind the wheel? Like I passed the test a few months ago but still get a bit anxious with driving. It’s more the thought of it than anything. Like some days I’m fine but then today for example I stalled a few times at a junction, which usually never happens, and has probably knocked my confidence a bit. I know it takes time but I’m desperate for overthinking. Any advice? Thank you

Just make sure you are going out driving every single day. The more you drive the more natural is becomes and the more your muscle memory takes over until driving just becomes completely natural and you don’t even think about it. If you don’t already have one, get a sat nav. It might sound silly but having something there to prompt you can help you feel more comfortable, even if you don’t actually need it to find where your going.
