I laugh at the uneducated bit! One of them is a qualified teacher, one of their fathers actually put the Irish language on the map in the north a fierce advocate that battled through illness to establish a well known publication/ newspaper and held in high regard before his recent death . Contrary to popular belief we’re not stupid here …I could be the exception but my offspring vindicate me 😂

I feel sick every time their names come up…even sicker that they are playing a gig on October 7th. They couldn’t give a toss how much damage they do to the lives of strangers as long as they get the attention they crave and money keeps rolling in. Not a single person is talking about their music - only how the big, scary Jewish conspiracy is trying to stifle their ‘freedom of speech’. The damage they and countless others have done to our communities is beyond comprehension. One of them is nearly 40 and wearing a tricolour tea cosy whilst wrapping himself in the flag of a movement that is doing a lot more than just knee-capping actual Gazans for wanting Hamas to release hostages and bring this to an end. Honestly, stepped in dog tit with more integrity.

I have let this topic simmer on the back burner of my mind this week. Yes, they have every right to call out Israel and they shouldn't be blacklisted/cancelled for it. Their comment "kill your local MP" is ignorant to put it mildly, considering 2 British MPs have been murdered. You expect it from a 14-year-old male edgelord on the Internet to spew that kind of crap, but these dudes are in their 20s and 30s, grow the duck up. They have apparently apologized to the Cox and Arness familes; well the Cox family said it was a half apology. Kneecap said “We also reject any suggestion that we would seek to incite violence against any MP or individual. Ever." Why say it in the first place? If you want to portay yourselves as allies in any cause, you need to be mindful of what you say.

Rap as a genre lost me in the early 90s. I haven't seen the film or know much else about Kneecap, other than they are the agitators of the moment. I don't get where they are coming from. The eldest was what, 8 years old when the Irish Peace Accords were signed? They come across as IRA cosplayers wishing it was still the 1970s. Maybe they can do their own interpretation of The Poni-Tails "Born Too Late-2B a Provo." Going to suck on my Werther's and listen to Kool Moe Dee. 🤪

You lost me when you said Kneecap are the agitators.
So just because they weren’t around in the 1970s you think they know nothing of the troubles? And people will confidently call them uneducated. The troubles didn’t end in 1998 just like history didn’t begin on October 7th.

They were a tiny obscure group til the film. Able to fly under the radar with stunts. A group with one who gets his a out emblazoned with Get The Brits Out probably shouldn't be treated like they're on Question Time.

Mr Vints old enough to remember punk. Loads of the BBC DJs boycotting their records and condemning them as corrupting youth were exposed for having their hands down teen girls knickers at the time. It's not slogans and provocative presentation of music that's ever been a danger to impressionable minds.

I came of age around Riot Girl aesthetics and grunge. Didn't anyone else ever write Kill All Men on their arms in lipstick for the femme rock club night? Slogans and footy hooligan type chants at gigs aren't politics. It's right that they've apologised to the families of those MPs. Who were killed by extremists a million ideological miles apart from the far left politics of ppl like Kneecap.

Sorry but what are they meant to do on October the 7th? Is it a new (inter)national holiday or something? Are we all to take the day off from now on?

Their Manager still won't answer the question "is it ever okay to say Up Hamas, Up Hezbollah" he just deflects to look over there, cover that!

Maybe basic human decency? Lame af comment. You crack on with fangirling those IRA cosplaying bleeps.

With all due respect go touch some grass

Unless they come out celebrating on October 7th, they're basically just doing their job like everyone else there. Just because something bad happened that day and it's deeply upsetting to you (I assume), it does not mean that other people cannot carry on and do their jobs.

Life and events go on during all anniversary atrocities. Your post was hyperbole to the point of camp which is why it's been roundly ignored.

Why would anyone want to be more like Bono? Who can forget him suing a stylist because he said she took his favourite stetson 😂
Silly old sod.

Wise up 😂 Katy Perry (for one) also has a concert on October 7th. Are you outraged about that or is it only Kneecap that shouldn’t do their job that day? 🙄

Very few public figures talking about it? Are you sure?
on my social media it’s a bombardment of death statistics, images of death and reports of bombings. I don’t think they’re the only ones talking about it - I actually think between rolling, 24hr News and constant sharing of information and misinformation on social media, people are becoming desensitised to it. When I say it, I mean atrocities in general; Israel/Palestine conflict, Russia/Ukraine war included.

People are reducing this to soundbites and digestible instagram length clips which are one sided (regardless of which side that is). Sure, Kneecap and others are talking about current events and politics, but musicians for decades and centuries before them have done the same. Look to Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, blues music, Joan Baez, The Byrds as examples.
For example, the Vietnam war and the killings there were the inspiration and subject of so many songs, albums, books and films.

None of them needed to use hyperbole in the way of a terrorist flag to make their point and none of them had access to social media platforms and still got their points across articulately.

Kneecap are cashing in on a current trend IMO. I’m not saying they don’t have a conscience; they probably have no more or less of a moral conscience or compass than you or I. They’re making a hella lot of money from spouting their views and waving terrorist flags then when they’re called to account for it, they deflect back to death counts in Gaza rather than apologising for saying MPs should be murdered.
You mention protest songs back in the 60’s and 70’s. Things were more subtle and nuanced then. These days with so many channels serving millions of people, nuance has gone out of the window. The poetry has gone. Now it’s more about using a sledgehammer to break a walnut.
