I just don’t understand why after being criticised so heavily for the bits and a male gaze music video for women’s world, she kept going with the exact same approach for her follow up singles, its just so cringey and humiliating. You’d have thought they’d have called an emergency meeting to review feedback and change the approach.
According to stories, people including her record company DID try to warn her after WW but she thought she knew better and ignored them. Like many, I think she got so used to the
a-kissing and people telling her she was a genius that she genuinely began to believe it and think everything she came up with was great and will look to others to blame it for flopping like she has done the last few times.
I read the reason she no longer works with Bonnie McKee who helped her write some of her biggest songs was that Bonnie has admitted more than once she was the one who wrote most of the lyrics while Katy only had a little input. Going by the lyrics to the songs on the album she claimed to write (along with many others), I think there might be something to it.
If...or rather when this album flops it will be three in a row (technically four if you count Prism which sold half of what Teenage Dream did which was good for most artists not for her) and I'm not sure if she will get another chance but if she does, I think she needs to look in the mirror and admit she isn't the talented writer she believes she is and try and get Bonnie and Max Martin back helping her because otherwise she is done and will only be seen as a GH artist from now on.
