I ended up a single mum with no money and homeless before I was 30. can see how it could break you having no hope. But she has thrown away money most of us could only dream of and had more hope than many people will ever have. It’s really hard to feel sympathetic for her now, my sympathy is reserved for those children who didn’t ask for any of this. Maybe 10 years ago I felt for her but not anymore

Mental illness is nobodies fault. There are genetic and social influences at play. Same with addiction.

However, when every opportunity has been put in place for her to recover, when she has been offered more support than most people seeking help for addiction issues. When she's destroyed the trust of those around her. When she has shown to have been selfish, narcissistic and emotionally abusive all her life then it is her fault. She will never recover until she accepts responsibility. Not poor you syndrome, actual adult responsibility.

Not for a fraction of a second do I dismiss the effect of trauma in someone's life. But I will always dismiss the 'bollocks' that she is somehow the innocent party here.

She's definitely not the innocent party. She's far from it. Being mentally ill or addicted doesn't make you lie about miscarriaging a baby. It doesn't make you you harass and troll people. It doesn't make you create revenge porn. There is so much she has done which isn't caused by an addiction or mental illness.
The ONLY innocent party is the children. They didn't chose to be born. They didn't chose this life.
Yes she must accept responsibility and she cannot recover until she does, getting sober is only possible if you acknowledge and take responsibility.
However it is still not a choice. Just because she has the support there does not mean she is able to accept it. Again she will only be able to recover if she hits rock bottom, the same for pretty much every single addict.
NA is always there, AA is always there, you saying she didn't use the support so it's your fault is saying everyone with addiction is at fault. Same with mental illness, support is there and people don't seek it.
People not seeking and using support doesn't mean they are choosing it.
My personal story, I had access to a brilliant rehab team when I was in the depths of my addiction but I didn't use them. I wanted to chase that high, I didn't want to come down and face reality. I would have prefer to have killed myself than be sober. I didn't want the pain of living, I didn't want the flashbacks, the thoughts and memories. Even then I didn't chose my addiction, I felt and behaved like that because I was and an addict. I will be an addict until the day I die.

Defensiveness is the addiction/mental illness.

But that's what addicts do and become.. Addicts don't chose to become addicted. Addicts don't chose that life. Addiction is a disease. Addicts put drugs/alcohol/gambling/sex above EVERYTHING else.

I had a psychopath ex. Diagnosed after years. I loved him so much and thought he was as perfect. That's how he presented himself to me.
He was an addict Of it all. He didn't care it was a choice because you have mental illness and personality disorders. But psychopathy is a personality disorder.

He enjoyed being evil and admitted so and could control it if he wanted. He didn't want to. He had the dark triad personality.
I didn't know for years because these types are expert manipulators. No accoutability. No responsibility. Entitled fckers.

I dont know about KP. But for sure she must've seen a psychiatrist at some point with all her issues and had some diagnosis of mental disorder or personality disorder.

I think the point is tho that at some point in ur addiction u have moments where u are coming down or sobering up where u can make the right decisions. Watching people u love deteriorate because if ur actions will hopefully make u make the right decision! Living in a country like this, fortunately has help, all be it it gets slagged off for it not being there RIGHT help, but they can’t help everyone in the way that they might want that help. We have benefits for bills, benefits for food, benefits for alcoholics to buy alcohol, phone lines etc! There are countries that have no help for food, rape, war torn countries that people have had everything blown to smithereens but they have to somehow survive! What people are saying about Katie is that she has had more than enough help thrown at her but she CHOOSES to carry on, owing money, not taking care of her children/animals, destroying peoples lives with owing money she’s not paid them for, or showing personal videos. Being an addict does not mean u don’t have a choice and unfortunately u cannot hide under that bracket for ever and not expect repercussions! Believe me, I’ve been on the other end of the addition, it destroys a lot more lives that just the addicts , I have also had trauma x

I don't think it is because it wasn't made into a big thing. It's just a fact, she didn't want to really talk about it and minimised the effect of the abuse. Also over 7% of children care sexually abused. She 'fits' the profile of someone who was sexually abused as a child. She went into sex work very early, appears to be hypersexual, has clear signs of emotional dysregulation, has a empty void a man can only whole, disconnected from everyone in an emotional sense, addiction and more.
Her sexual assaults in ZA after the hijacking I doubt. But I do believe she was abused when she was 7 years old.

Thanks. I'm just human with experience and have been surrounded by addicts my whole life so my insight is very different from perspective. I know and am friendly with addicts who will probably never get sober and I'm friendly with addicts who truly hit rock bottom and built their lives back up.

I agree which is why I trash talk her here. She's choosing to buy all these clothes, animals and whatever else when she should be paying her debts.. She is doing so many things wrong which just makes her a crappy person. Just think, look at how many addicts keep their dogs alive when living on the street and she can't do it in a house with other adults.. I think if she got the help the and support she needed (she's the only one who can chose that) she could be more of an attentive and stable parent and would be beneficial to her children.
