Kanye West

The organisers of Wireless are bleeping morons; I mean, in what universe was it a good idea to have Kanye as a headliner? Of course he apologised, he had no choice, it's all about money and fame for him. I don't doubt that he is severely mentally unwell but he needs to take accountability and take his meds. He has enough money to never work again. As previously mentioned, having one of the world's most prolific anti-semitic celebrities headlining a festival in a Jewish area of London is at best, bleeping insensitive.

Wireless would’ve earned his sponsors a tit tonne of dough too. And the event organizers.

There are plenty of other Summer Festivals on around the UK this summer with amazing artists performing, its

The dates for the European Tour are not loads though more dates are promised. I doubt Germany will allow Kanye to perform.

I also think Kanye / Kanye’s team apologised because they had to.

It is interesting to think about what of his actions is bi polar and what is egotistical.

Then when a ban is introduced is it enough to just ban from entering the country. Or if you're banning him from performing in person should his music also be banned from streaming platforms?

It's a real morale maze.

I think there's a difference here. One guy with Tourettes was at a place where he said something unexpected and involuntary where they were celebrating awards. Whereas Kanye was being paid a lot of money when he's already been incredibly insensitive and unstable on an international level at a time where anti Jew sentiment is rife. Two very different scenarios. Kanye should not have been booked for this and is repeatedly given a huge platform when he's already caused a lot of harm. The organisers knew the controversy of his views and still chose money over sensitivity. Many other talented acts could have been chosen instead.
Do you get how bipolar works? People have delusions of things that are not true. Believing in a conspiracy of Jews, aliens or lizards etc, etc ruling the world is a surprisingly common one because feelings of persecution are vert common. As is the sufferer believing they are a reincarnation of Jesus, Hitler, Elvis. Sufferers also often feel a violent need to tell other people or warn them about their supposed revelation. I know someone who had it and if he’d had Kanye’s platform he would have gone on TV to announce he was the second coming and printed up t-shirts saying ‘Dave is God’. (Kanye sold no shirts BTW, the platform pulled it and didn’t process the orders.

It’s no more something they do of their free will than the man who shouted out at the Baftas. Their illness makes them sincerely believe it’s true and that they have evidence of it. When they’re stabilised and well again they know it’s not true and feel overwhelming shame and remorse.

Like people who called they BAFTA’s guy racist, it’s a lack of understanding of the condition.

I don’t agree.

Also, I know how bi polar works - and how it affects individuals differs vastly.
It is not comparable to Tourette’s. I also believe that sitting a Tourette’s sufferer next to a microphone at a global event is appalling. The organisers knew something like that was likely to happen - they seemed to be glad of the publicity that it generated.

Kayne Wests diagnosis of bi polar does not give him a freedom card, to offend others. If his appearance at festivals is likely to cause distress to local communities (who are already dealing with attacks), he should not be given a platform.
He may not have reported any episodes of psychosis recently, but his general behaviour is suspect (at best).

We should not turn a blind eye to the behaviours of those suffering with a mental health condition, when it affects others.
There have been high profile incidents where nothing has been done - with fatal outcomes.
It does not mean that a nation is not sympathetic to those suffering with mental health conditions. Why would it mean that?

If Kanye is indeed off his meds so he can be creative, and the consequence is probable spontaneous and aggressive hate mongering racist rants, he should not be performing live.

With respect, you clearly don't...
You have chopped the end of the sentence off. I said “I know how bi polar works - and how it affects individuals differs vastly”. My point being, that there is no typical bi polar patient.
I am not a psychiatrist and not an expert in clinical mental health, but I don’t need to, to have decent insight.

I work in mental health (social care, not clinical) and support people who have a diagnosis of bi polar. My mother had bi polar (without psychosis), so I think it’s a sweeping generalisation, to suggest I don’t know have an understanding of the condition.

I do understand that bi polar with psychosis can affect a persons capacity (especially without treatment), but this is not the case for most people with the diagnosis. Anyone affected by psychosis is going to have capacity issues - and there will be cases where people have acted out without capacity. Do I think Kayne West has lacked capacity throughout his actions? My answer would be no, and even if he has - it does not mean that it can be allowed to continue and not be challenged. He will also face consequences from previous actions.

I’m very on the fence about it all and actually understand what everyone is saying on both sides. I’m baffled how it’s become such a priority though for the government to step in and ban him from the UK yet we have constant terror threats and real issues going on. There is literally a convicted terrorist who plotted to blow up the British consulate running for MP in Birmingham 💀 if the UK was super strict on immigration and the people they let in I would completely get it but it’s hard to understand when the country is in shambles. I don’t think banning Kanye West should be a priority.

I totally agree that there are people who need to be investigated - and are not.
I don’t think Kanye West is a priority, as decisions about a variety of subjects / situations are continuously being made (some important and

Kayne West is news because he is a global superstar / multi millionaire. His case is also important because of his fame. If he was a regular Joe from the US, nobody would know about any of his previous actions.

He had a huge bipolar breakdown.

I’m not quite sure why this is different from the incident at the Baftas last month where an offensive word was shouted.

People have disabilities which sometimes make them behave in ways they deeply regret. He’s apologised. He has well documented florid mental problems

So are we going to just discriminate against people with inconvenient disabilities now?
I said exactly the same thing.

Sorry - half my post disappeared as I posted it. Can’t fix it now - apologies.

There is certainly racism in this. Other people have gone too far worse extreme. Still accepted. White.
I've followed Kanye since he first started. He seems to have never been comfortable. His mum dying from plastic surgery did a proper number on him. The crash made it worse. He was always different though. I'm not getting involved in the anti stuff he's done. He's insulted everyone.
I feel for the bloke, I honestly do.

Who would you say has been worse?

How do feel feel about his recent behaviour, such as having his trousers down on a boat in Venice - receiving oral sex from the coerced wife / partner who he parades around near naked. Do you think that behaviour is because he has bi polar?

None of that is actually a question is it. You have no idea of his relationship with his wife. I made pretty clear how I feel about Kanye.

A lot of things are racist and about race but sorry no matter how much I disagree with the government I don’t think this situation has anything to do with Kanye’s race.

The relationship has red flags all over it - screaming coercive control. She met him as an employee, that power balance and how uncomfortable she looks being paraded around by him whilst near naked is a concern.
It has been reported that he has “banned” her from social media. This all says a lot about out his personality, his character - and where a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder can’t be blamed.

I am not of how laws work in the US, but having a mental illness such as bipolar - does not excuse you from prosecution. It can be presented as mitigation, but offers no “liberty to do as you please card”.
His past behaviour and from what I can see, current behaviour - presents a loose cannon.
