I came here to say this. I noticed this last night when I was looking at channel analytics. JoJo has 289K subscribers but his daily vlogs only see about 12-15k watches. Compared to Kyle who has 133K subs, his videos average anywhere from the high 30s into the 50s depending on topic. In addition, if I recall, Kyle and JoJo were neck and neck with subs for a LONG time. At one point JoJo surpassed Kyle and has now blasted wayyyyy past him. What seems sus to me is that JoJo JUST hit 200K subs and he’s now almost at 300K? There is literally nothing he’s doing that would garnish that much attention. Something is off here…
I think the main thing for the boost is that Jojo's lucked into great timing for his main growth channels - TikTok and Shorts. School's ending for lots of children and teens, they're engaging more on TikTok and YouTube Shorts, and many of Jojo's videos for those are closely tied to Marvel and Star Wars so lots of people are finding his shorts as related videos to Disney Plus Marvel and Star Wars shorts.
Kyle isn't posting anything related to trendy IPs like Marvel and Star Wars. Last I saw he's just been gloating about another gifted staycation. Who would've thought the Grand Floridian wouldn't have as big of an audience of new viewers?
Paging Mr Morrow is another vlogger he's skyrocketed past - seems like there's a smaller audience that cares about eating a 10-course meal at theme parks every day than new viewers that like watching Marvel and Star Wars shorts.
Jojo's regular vlogs are also not as relevant to Marvel or Star Wars, but they don't get as many views because of that. It's honestly kind of smart on his part to focus more on shorts for the larger audiences than vlogs because they'd get a lot more redundant if they were longer than two minutes. Compared to other vloggers who just want to show you staycations and cruises every week, if Jojo only did that I don't think his channel would be growing nearly as quick.
