I remember how infamous she became back in 2015, she was absolutely hounded by the press, had to resign from her various positions (as a lecturer, funnily enough) and she's still going.
She was basically a laughing stock who had all of her family dirty laundry aired for all the world to see, if I remember rightly it was her estranged parents who blabbed that she was actually white. Yet who really cares about it all now?
The likes of her and others that previous posters have mentioned all survived public humiliations and scandals. I wonder why Jason felt like he couldn't just ride it out, and wait for the attention to simmer down.
P.S. Dolezal has now legally changed her name to Nkechi Amare Diallo, and has an Only Fans for anyone who's interested

He’s clearly worried about funding for GLP, and the “bigger funders” he’s approached with his begging bowl are not having it. Can you blame them. Imagine being harangued by Jolyon pointing and squawking at you while he begs for cash. I can’t see that being very persuasive. Especially when they do their due diligence into GLP’s success rate.

There was a documentary about Dolezal on Netflix a few years back (The Rachel Divide) - it was strangely fascinating. She was still apparently deeply in denial. There have been a few high profile fakers falsely claiming Native American heritage too. Buffy Sainte Marie being a recent example.
Plenty of literary hoaxes (fake memoirs mostly), and plagiarism by journalists (Johann Hari, Stephen Glass, Jayson Blair), medical fakers, pregnancy fakers. And there was that odd case of a woman who claimed to have lost her fiancé in 9/11 and made herself a bit of a celebrity on the back of it (there was a book about her).
It’s very odd. I would be constantly afraid of being found out if I tried to pull something like that, but these people just plough on and double down on their delusion. It’s strangely fascinating.
