Considering his reading level was like a 4 year old or whatever, it was a big swing to apply for and take out of loan for a degree

I am curious around how this is all going to affect reporting similar incidents going forward.

People have misrepresented themselves for fame and fortune since doing so became profitable. Over the years there have been many ' true story of my tragic life' books that later turned out to be fabricated or pass someone else's experiences off as their own.

People are always interested when someone turns out to have been faking their life story. It is hilarious catching a liar in the act and seeing them squirm or try and tell further lies to get out of the hole they are now in.

I worry that this will make the media and public even less likely to question someone when a story doesn't seem right.

The Mother Of All Cons woman is still alive and well, as is Belle Gibson and the Salt Path couple - all of whom were publicly outed as being frauds and liars. There are numerous other examples. I hope this case doesn't make people scared to question bizarre and unrealistic claims.

Well that was always our theory about Jack Monroe - that the bad mentals and history of rehab meant that no one wanted to touch her. Shattenstone inadvertently finished her grift off in the end. It was a slowly deflating balloon rather than anything more dramatic though and whaddya know, she survived it, got a job and became a contributing member of society.

We should always question liars. If you don’t want your lies questioned, keep them to lies that don’t propel you into the public eye.

I remember being surprised when the book & film 'Sleepers' all turned out to be fabricated as well.

Arday wasn't the first and definitely won't be the last.

This. Luckily Guest's enormous ego managed to cancel herself in that interview. It was so funny that she was so proud of it, when the interview and her behaviour around it showed her up as the ridiculous liar and grifter she is. (Remember the "entire bath full of pennies! All up my bumcrack!" nonsense, that was immediately debunked by the BTS footage on Insta from the MUA? bleeping hilarious)

Even the pennies everywhere, including places no one needs to know about, is an unnecessary lie. Instantly rejected by concrete evidence and yet to be expected because God help these kinds of people and their ability to bull about everything.

The people who call them out on are then attacked and dismissed until the liar can't lie any more. Weaponising their bad mentals, expecting everyone to melt in a puddle at their ickle cute faces 🥹 and the rest.

It's such an obvious playbook but you still get suckers be pulled in and the rest of us just find each other and await the next step. Add in the grifting and lack of integrity and you've got balls Chatters 101 🙄🙄🙄

I was randomly thinking about Rachel Dolezal today. I remember how infamous she became back in 2015, she was absolutely hounded by the press, had to resign from her various positions (as a lecturer, funnily enough) and she's still going.
She was basically a laughing stock who had all of her family dirty laundry aired for all the world to see, if I remember rightly it was her estranged parents who blabbed that she was actually white. Yet who really cares about it all now?
The likes of her and others that previous posters have mentioned all survived public humiliations and scandals. I wonder why Jason felt like he couldn't just ride it out, and wait for the attention to simmer down.

P.S. Dolezal has now legally changed her name to Nkechi Amare Diallo, and has an Only Fans for anyone who's interested 😅

Jolyon Maugham from the Good Law Project has been forced to admit he misled a BBC journalist during an interview where she asked about having a donate to the GLP button on a Jason Arday open letter

What a pompous twit he is. I am so pleased that one of the happier outcomes of this saga is Jolyon and the Bad Law Project getting their sorry arses handed to them.

I've been away from TL for a while but this story has brought me back. The response to the JA saga has made me think we are approaching the End Of Times.

Most of what I would say has already been said by others. I really do not understand his supporters who are obsessing over the old articles in local newspapers about his marathon running. They are concentrating so hard, looking for a grain of truth in one thing he said while ignoring all the more serious lies. For me, there are two things that have not really been spoken about so much. One is JA's manipulation of the press: the Guardian story involving the pig's head and knife man was planted by Arday himself last year. Presumably, he thought a black Guardian journo would be sympathetic; he later told Jolyon Maugham that he didn't trust the journalist. I don't think anyone on here has mentioned that in a DM article, he tries to manipulate the press again. Those who claim that the press hounded JA to death would do well to acknowledge that the DM just reported JA's request without making a big deal of his manipulative ways and that the Guardian article did not mention that JA approached them with his tales.

Another thing that has not been examined is that JA was supposedly an expert in racism in education, yet has set the field back in two ways. Firstly, he obviously accused others of racism and made up stories about being a victim of racial hate crimes. But there is also the fact that his research into the experiences of ethnic minority ppl in education uses quotes he copied from elsewhere. He had so little respect for the field, he copied others. Despite his obvious skills of storytelling, he couldn't even be bothered to confect some interviews, let alone go out and do some proper interviews. This would be akin to a Professor studying sexual violence reporting colleagues/students for sexist behaviour and then making up false allegations of sex crimes to tell journalists when he felt he was about to be rumbled.

He did duck all to actually help other black people, he was all about himself.

Oh wow, despite being an obvious grifter how can anyone be angry about her? She's just comical.
She also used the new identity as a shield for previous trauma. I don't think it's the best thing to have done but, like Jason Arday, it's the desire to be in the spotlight that's one of the biggest issues.

I can’t lie… there is a shrine to him at work - ‘in memory of Professor Jason Arday’ and I was briefly tempted to insert ‘a source close to’.

Ah, so you‘re familiar with Dr Jessica Taylor as well then? ;)

Now he’s trying to get people to unsubscribe from the press. While aggressively pointing at us and squeaking away in his weird voice. Don’t point, Jo, it’s rude. You weirdo.
