I didn’t know much about his personal life but I read his wife taught him to read and write at 18, when he already had a GCSE. So she must have been in on the lies?
I think this sums it up very well. It’s a very tragic situation that needn’t have happened,It’s absolutely tragic but I don’t feel surprised. The attention on this story was so intense (perhaps because it’s silly season).
I know this sounds odd but I’m not sure he thought he had lied. By all accounts other academics at Cambridge and previous institutions treated him as some sort of messiah. An academic on twitter said a few days ago he was a nice guy but was just so weird how in thrall to him other academics were.
I think he could do no wrong and it probs did feel to him that he was going through life ‘manifesting’ a PhD, academic career etc. and it was all just meant to be.
I blame the people in the institutions who enabled all of this.

I'm always 50/50 on that. I think some people do start legitimately believing what they say, but I also don't think thats universal. In this case we'll never know and probably shouldn't speculate.I know this sounds odd but I’m not sure he thought he had lied.
You’ve summed up my thoughts about this whole sorry affair perfectly. I typed out and then deleted about 10 times before I saw this. Thank youRight, I'm going to say something and if it is awful then please feel free to report to mods etc.
I'm very sorry that someone has lost their life, that's awful. Especially as he has children.
However as the survivor of narcissistic abuse i have educated myself over the past few years. Threatening to take your life and actually taking your own life are the tools of a narcissist. Dying by your own hand is the ultimate 'win' for a narcissist. You can't try and justify or understand it if you don't have the experience.
Their brains aren't wired normally. To be dead and make others look bad is just one example how they 'win'. It's why estranged parents kill their children to spite the other parent.
I'm not sorry about anything I've posted on here. I have only ever mocked obvious bull, which is what I believe everyone else has done.
All we have done is called out the lies of an obvious fantasist. No one on here needs to feel bad about anything.
Just waiting for notadoc Jess and et al spinning rit that it was all Tattle's fault.
Frankly you shouldn't - he still lied, with damaging lies at that, capitalised on those lies, and took opportunities from others in the meantime. The tragedy doesn't negate that.I feel terrible about some of the harsh things I have said about him on this thread. I honestly didn’t think he’d end his life, I thought he’d sail through the accusations without any regrets, like other people who have been exposed as fantasists do. He obviously did feel shame. His poor family.
Yes. I think when his fantasy world was exposed and pulled apart in the media, he could no longer sustain his delusions and suffered a complete narcissistic collapse. He could never have come back from this. I think it's a shame he decided to take his own life, but I'm not actually surprised.Right, I'm going to say something and if it is awful then please feel free to report to mods etc.

To add - Cambridge and academia in general is at fault more than the MSM or here or anywhere/anyone else imoYou’ve summed up my thoughts about this whole sorry affair perfectly. I typed out and then deleted about 10 times before I saw this. Thank you
Absolutely.Honestly I'm so pissed off at everyone who enabled him through the years, for their own gain as much as his.
In an alternate universe he's probably a PE teacher in a secondary school, and that's where his ascent should have ended.
