I just don't give a shiny rit about him actually. Even when the news of his selfish exit broke, I knew what was going to happen. And lo, it came to pass that Saint Jason had his earthly misdeeds forgiven. Should have bought a lottery ticket
Same. I hate feeling like that. But this guy lied his a off about literally everything, is an oldy-timey textbook definition of a narcissist (grandiose 'look at me! I'm bleeping amazing at everything!') and he took the narc way out. Him with his suits. As my late mother used to say 'if he was made of chocolate, he'd eat himself.'
Those grief whores all need their heads banged together. I blame Princess Diana. I'm surprised they haven't got signs up saying 'The People's Professor'.

A few years ago one of my friends worked on a TV movie about Brexit and Cadwalladr went on the warpath about it for no reason other than she felt slighted that they'd not consulted her. I don't remember the details but I remember that she tweeted lies and made insinuations about the production and some of the individuals involved in the production. Not to the point of libel but she definitely at one point outright lied that she'd seen the TV movie when she had not done.
I would absolutely love to see a dramatised version of this book, taken completely at face value. It would be hysterical.

Apologies, but I feel the need to unload on an issue that has been bothering me for some time. If you aren't interested in pedantry and ranting about pathological lies, you might want to scroll past this post.
I am a former academic who has a number of university degrees from several countries because I am a weirdo autist who collects university degrees for fun. Sad but true.
Anyone who thinks that the issue that brought down Arday was only plagiarism and that the only plagiarism Arday committed was in his PhD is not looking at the larger picture. In the UK, most (if not all) universities teach undergraduates about referencing and plagiarism. Many universities have plagiarism detection software like Turnitin installed on computers. Often, students are asked to run their course work through Turnitin to check for plagiarism before submitting their essays. (Some foreign countries have a different attitude to referencing and foreign students can have difficulty with understanding the need to reference. This is not a criticism of their home country's educational system; I am merely pointing out a difference.)
Arday was a British national who studied only at UK universities and would have been taught about plagiarism at undergraduate level.
I am willing to bet folding money that he plagiarised his work at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and that no one challenged him on this. In other words, plagiarising became dishonest behaviour without penalty and, therefore, Arday carried on this behaviour in his PhD thesis. It was remiss of Arday, his supervisor and, possibly, his PhD committee not to have checked.)
Arday carried on this behaviour in two journal articles (he plagiarised from an epidemiologist, Anjum Memon, about mental health in ethnic minorities). David Harris, of Plymouth Marjon University, identified the plagiarism in these two articles, which required post-publication corrections. Arday complained to the Devon and Cornwall police about Harris but the former, sensibly, declined to investigate Arday's complaint of harassment.
To me, this shows that Arday had a fundamental problem with honesty and integrity.
For Arday, lying had become such a core aspect of his character that he lied when he could be proved wrong about big issues, eg his 'broken' leg had swollen to twice its normal size by the end of the 30th marathon (photos taken of Arday at the finish line show two normal-sized legs) and that 2,000 - 3,000 were at Eros to cheer him on; and about small issues, like having naturally darker skin around his eyes when it is clear that in some photographs he is wearing eye liner while in other photographs he isn't.
Arday's whole life was like a human Potemkin village: there was an athletic, fashionably dressed, knee-length lok'd, eyeliner-wearing front that was the attractive front for a rotten inner existence. I believe that Arday lied so much, for so long, about so many things that he both believed his lies and became incapable of telling - or recognising - the truth.

I’m sure he felt EXACTLY the same way when Ann Widdecombe was found in her home with multiple head wounds, inflicted upon her by some far left loner who was radicalised online - apparently apparently apparently - and as if death wasn’t enough, was then subsequently vilified in the hours and days afterwards by those needing to project that they did not like her religious beliefs or political alliances. Just as one example.
Like I said upthread, these people cherrypick what to feel morally outraged by, and who to lionise and who to demonise.

My name is Jason Arday; I am a 26 year old Sports Lecturer at Richmond upon Thames College from Clapham, South London. I have been an avid fundraiser for 8 years, and in that time I have been very lucky to be a part of several fundraising initiatives which have raised substantial amounts for charity.
At the age of 17, I had what I can only describe as life changing experience. Over the Christmas period in December 2002, I was invited to volunteer at a local homeless shelter, what I saw, was to change my perception of what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. After that experience I set myself the aim of helping as many charities as I can over the course of my lifetime, and I set myself the target of raising £250,000 before the age of 50, which thanks too so many people I am well on my way to achieving.
In the summer of 2010; between July 19-22 August, I was extremely privileged to be part of an ultra-marathon challenge, which involved running and completing 30 marathons in 35 days across the streets of London.
In total, we were able to raise just over £8,000 pounds for the two respective charities; The Shootings Stars Chase and Shelter due to the overwhelming support by members of the public and media interest.
What is this year’s fundraising challenge?
This summer, I am very sad to say that this will be my last ever running challenge of any kind, which I will be doing for charity. For those of you who have met me, I have said this nonsense several times, but unfortunately I feel the time has come to focus on raising money for charity through other innovative means, which do not involve me killing myself!!
The final challenge, will involve running the equivalent of 300 miles in 3 days on a treadmill, this roughly will involve running for 16-18 hours on a treadmill. This challenge will be completed in August 2011 on the 10th, 11th with the final day of the challenge taking place on Friday 12th August.
What is the target?
The target is to raise as much for these two chosen charities,with the aim being to split the amount raised in half for the two charities!
Why is your support so important?Your support is instrumental to me completing this task because we need to raise some funds to help, and for this I will need you to delve deep into to your pocket and help me raise some money for these two deserving charities. As well as this, I going to need all the support possible too get me through running 100 miles a day on a treadmill for 3 days. It would also be great if you could come and join me at the two venues where the challenge will take place.
Where will the challenge be taking place?
The challenge will be taking place at Fitness First in Clapham Junction (10th and 12th) and Latchmere Leisure Centre in Battersea from 6am-10pm, at both places.
How will your donation help Shooting Stars?
Shooting Star Chase offers a range of care services for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families. Shooting Stars Chase care services are provided to families free of charge, 365 days a year. It costs £3 million every year (£8,000 a day) to maintain these care services, and with no long-term statutory funding, the majority of this comes from voluntary donations.

Shelter homeless service is provides more than 200 specialist housing advisers. Shelter provides advice, information and help with legal and practical issues surrounding re-housing and homelessness. Shelter is able to; help with practical problems, explain complicated legal issues, help an individual to request and prepare for homelessness reviews, tribunals or court hearings and finally, place you in touch with other organisations that can help you. However, this is another service that is provided free of charge and for this valuable service to be maintained, it is heavily reliant on fundraising schemes and donations. This mawkish canonisation of Arday feels like a fracturing of the timeline, if you know what i mean. Another issue on which the country can be divided into "goodies" (unquestioning acceptance of Arday as a kind sweet clever man who just wanted to help people and was persecuted by a racist mob) and "baddies" (horrible bigots whose legitimate questions about his claims and credibility are evil bullying). Unsurprised that a terrible narcissist i follow is using this story to launder his own terrible behaviour and avoid criticism.
And that's exactly what will absolutely not be happening.
Both sides are fanning the flames and weaponising it. I despair at how Dianne Abbott is misrepresenting it. I'm sure there's people on the other side doing the same, but I've not seen their quotes.
I agree, and I suspect that early on, he realised he wasn’t up to the task, and so started to steal other people’s work and pass it off as his own. When he’d got away with it the first time, he realised he could do it again and again. And it seems that he was never challenged on this, until he’d started to progress in his career and other academics started to question it.
It’s hard to say whether he believed his own bull or not. In interviews, I think he got carried away and the lies and exaggerations came out without him thinking about it. I don’t think he ever expected to get caught out. And also, he’d worked out that his audience were impressed by his extraordinary back story, so he kept ramping it up.
This re-branding of him as some kind of simple minded innocent is ridiculous - and incredibly patronising. He knew what he was doing. He set the big lawyers and the police on people who started to question after all.
If he’d managed to silence his critics, he would now be embarking upon a global book tour. If that had happened, then further down the line, after people had read his ridiculous fiction, he would have been headline news again, as the world mocked him.

He was always going to get found out when courting fame and attention. If he kept his head down and actually tried to retrospectively learn on the job and help students properly he could have avoided this. People manage to lie their way into elite jobs all the time, but they keep a lid on it to just their immediate circles and their fails hushed up etc. His failing was he was made a poster boy and left his claims of wonders out there as a trail for people to pick up on. People were always going to join the dots eventually.
