This mawkish canonisation of Arday feels like a fracturing of the timeline, if you know what i mean. Another issue on which the country can be divided into "goodies" (unquestioning acceptance of Arday as a kind sweet clever man who just wanted to help people and was persecuted by a racist mob) and "baddies" (horrible bigots whose legitimate questions about his claims and credibility are evil bullying). Unsurprised that a terrible narcissist i follow is using this story to launder his own terrible behaviour and avoid criticism.

The fact remains, if Cambridge had hired a person who was truly academically gifted, then we wouldn’t be here discussing this. We wouldn’t know who any of these people are.
If that person happened to be black, I would question why any respecting person worth their salt would WANT to be used as a trophy by the institution they work for? Wouldn’t they just want to settle into their role?

I hope lessons are learned. Although there is no admittance of wrongdoing, Cambridge must know they majorly ducked up and dropped the ball on this one. Arday was a conman but he wasn’t a particularly smart conman.

@Wu Tien I used Turnitin as undergrad nearly 20 years ago, we could see our results prior to submitting work, I had books about referencing, a 3rd of my degree was in stats and then as a post grad my course contained referencing and academic writing modules. You can also get software to help manage your citations and their formatting. Admittedly I chose to learn my science rather than just deciding i'd be good at it and do it on the fly.

I queried your assertion that DA is more responsible for the oppression of black people than anyone else and then I edited to ASK your take on Cofnas (which is not "leaping" by any stretch).

So why are you accusing me of having a "tribalist mind" when we're largely in agreement on much of this situation???

I was always told don't tell lies and you will have nothing to hide. Be as honest as you can, no matter how difficult and usually the gossip will stop when someone else becomes hot topic. These people who sell themselves online need to realise that they are giving access to their lives to millions of people and those people will all have their opinions. I have very little digital footprint because I don't want people to know me. It's a case of you asked for it, you got it and you have to take the good with the bag regardless of skin colour, disability, sexual orientation or anything else. You put yourself out there you take a chance!

Not only that but I’m hearing it’s already crossed over into omnicause territory. The people who used to post on influencer and brand accounts berating them for not speaking out about Palestine, are now demanding that they post about JA.

I lost my sister to suicide, and I can’t help feeling angry about the public outpouring of grief both at the vigil and on social media. It feels really, really irresponsible.

When a well-known figure takes their own life, there is a suicide contagion affect. The media are supposed to be extremely careful now how they report on suicide, and not to romanticise someone’s death by suicide.

I feel like the reaction to Arday’s death sends a message to vulnerable people of “if you die this way, loads of people will say lovely things about you and pour money into a Go Fund Me, and you get to be at peace with no obligations, future consequences for your actions or further pain, and you get to have revenge on those who wronged you”.

It doesn’t show the weird side of suicide loss. The PTSD, the hundreds of calls to devastated loved ones, the weird crying many years after the event, the christmases and holidays that are too painful to celebrate again, the intense feelings of betrayal and abandonment from one of the people you trusted the most in the world.

My thoughts go to Jason’s children, siblings and any other loved ones who have had a bomb dropped on their lives through no fault of their own

Which brings us full circle. BLM and the legion of supporters of that movement, who demanded everyone stay off Instagram on 2nd June 2020, and instead just post a black square, which was then ludicrously pulled apart by BLM ‘activists’, who argued the trend allowed individuals (all white people) to clear their conscience, whilst others argued the square shouldn’t be a single post, but cover the whole grid and if you didn’t capitulate, you were racist.
Around this time Cambridge students wrote an open letter DEMANDING decolonisation recruitment. That’s what they got. Cambridge University got a gold star for recruiting someone black who also had no problem being thrust into the limelight to toot his own horn, but they had points deducted for failing to verify the guy was actually qualified for the job.

If only society wasn’t built on pandering to people who perceive themselves to be disadvantaged, and instead followed the fool proof practice of rewarding and celebrating those who are certifiably who they say they are.

If JA had been an personal tutor (I assume he would have been as part of any uni teaching role) then he would also have been the designated person who had duty of care for the mental health of his mentees. Would he not have had a duty to their students to be stable enough to support them?

I think they might have a case in terms of duty of care for Cambridge. I don’t think the government is to blame. Or the media.

The guy who set it up has clearly turned off auto updates as the total isn't going higher and it’s nearly there. I’m glad he has.

I'm not surprised Diane Abbott, who tried to get the press silenced on reporting her son's assault and racial abuse on police and emergency workers (same son who went to private school after she criticised other members of her party's hypocrisy for doing the same with their children) would find empathy with Arday trying to bully journalists with Carter-Ruck.

It’s hard to say whether he believed his own bull or not. In interviews, I think he got carried away and the lies and exaggerations came out without him thinking about it. I don’t think he ever expected to get caught out. And also, he’d worked out that his audience were impressed by his extraordinary back story, so he kept ramping it up.

This is another thing that reminds me very strongly of Jack Monroe. How is the University of Cambridge going to be able to carry out an unbiased internal investigation now?
They will be bricking it that there'll be protests outside the Faculty of Education and Jesus College, if the investigation shows Arday in a bad light.
It's actually frightening how much it has all escalated since Cofnas wrote his substack post on 21st July - not even a month ago and Arday is dead and Cofnas is receiving death threats.

It's like they can't tell the truth as it is, they have to keep ramping it up to get the dopamine and headpats.

And now the situation is ripe for her to come out and claim she too was hounded and had to retreat for the sake of her mental wellbeing.
Thus opening a door for her grift to carry on as before.
