The dismissal of the blatant untruths exaggerations and outright lies is galling, as if they meant nothing and did no one any harm. That may have been true while he had no real audience the minute he began courting fame (with those same stories) It was harmful to those who believed them to be true for multiple reasons previously mentioned on the thread.

This is his just giving page for the following year’s 300 miles in 3 days (which from the web address in the ‘story’ suggests it was initially 400 in 5 days). It raised just £380.

My name is Jason Arday; I am a 26 year old Sports Lecturer at Richmond upon Thames College from Clapham, South London. I have been an avid fundraiser for 8 years, and in that time I have been very lucky to be a part of several fundraising initiatives which have raised substantial amounts for charity.
At the age of 17, I had what I can only describe as life changing experience. Over the Christmas period in December 2002, I was invited to volunteer at a local homeless shelter, what I saw, was to change my perception of what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. After that experience I set myself the aim of helping as many charities as I can over the course of my lifetime, and I set myself the target of raising £250,000 before the age of 50, which thanks too so many people I am well on my way to achieving.
In the summer of 2010; between July 19-22 August, I was extremely privileged to be part of an ultra-marathon challenge, which involved running and completing 30 marathons in 35 days across the streets of London.
In total, we were able to raise just over £8,000 pounds for the two respective charities; The Shootings Stars Chase and Shelter due to the overwhelming support by members of the public and media interest.
What is this year’s fundraising challenge?
This summer, I am very sad to say that this will be my last ever running challenge of any kind, which I will be doing for charity. For those of you who have met me, I have said this nonsense several times, but unfortunately I feel the time has come to focus on raising money for charity through other innovative means, which do not involve me killing myself!!
The final challenge, will involve running the equivalent of 300 miles in 3 days on a treadmill, this roughly will involve running for 16-18 hours on a treadmill. This challenge will be completed in August 2011 on the 10th, 11th with the final day of the challenge taking place on Friday 12th August.
What is the target?
The target is to raise as much for these two chosen charities,with the aim being to split the amount raised in half for the two charities!
Why is your support so important?Your support is instrumental to me completing this task because we need to raise some funds to help, and for this I will need you to delve deep into to your pocket and help me raise some money for these two deserving charities. As well as this, I going to need all the support possible too get me through running 100 miles a day on a treadmill for 3 days. It would also be great if you could come and join me at the two venues where the challenge will take place.
Where will the challenge be taking place?
The challenge will be taking place at Fitness First in Clapham Junction (10th and 12th) and Latchmere Leisure Centre in Battersea from 6am-10pm, at both places.
How will your donation help Shooting Stars?
Shooting Star Chase offers a range of care services for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families. Shooting Stars Chase care services are provided to families free of charge, 365 days a year. It costs £3 million every year (£8,000 a day) to maintain these care services, and with no long-term statutory funding, the majority of this comes from voluntary donations.

Shelter homeless service is provides more than 200 specialist housing advisers. Shelter provides advice, information and help with legal and practical issues surrounding re-housing and homelessness. All of our services are free, professional and independent. Shelter has more than 30 years' experience in dealing with housing problems. Shelter is able to; help with practical problems, explain complicated legal issues, help an individual to request and prepare for homelessness reviews, tribunals or court hearings and finally, place you in touch with other organisations that can help you. However, this is another service that is provided free of charge and for this valuable service to be maintained, it is heavily reliant on fundraising schemes and donations. Have a look at the phenomenal work this charities does!

Oh sorry my mistake, what is the right context?
This is ridiculous, how does this benefit anyone? What's the point of the whole news industry if news coverage is capped? Will each newspaper only be allowed a certain number of articles per individual?
And what's the threshold for deciding which individuals will this apply to? What about the royals, who are in the news all the time? What about criminals whose crimes are in the public interest? What about someone like Jason, who used a PR team to raise awareness of his charity fundraising?
Will it just cover British citizens? When a new pope gets elected, there are lots of articles about them and their previous life. Will that be allowed?
I know this will just fizzle out but I can't wrap my head around how this could possibly be implemented without descending into 1984-style Newspeak

Back on topic, I'm actually disappointed that Diane Abbot has been drawn into this race/culture war BS when she should know from personal & political experience that this situation is actually far more nuanced and complex than this... (cc. @PurvyPanda re. my previous post).
Urgghh. Yes. That is exactly what I’m saying. I’m not being facetious. Diane Abbott is a prominent black woman who knows she has immense influence in her role, which she should be using wisely. Instead she’s getting up on a podium and repeating hyperbolic hearsay. The fiction was laid out for all of us to read by Jason Arday himself. Does Diane Abbott really believe that this man ran 30 marathons with a broken leg? Does Diane Abbott really believe that this man was on 7-Up before he was alive? Does Diane Abbott really believe that this man was an intellectual academic? Is she really going stand there and lie to her fellow black people that this man was purely scrutinised because of the colour of his skin, because that is a really poisonous message to assert. Yes, that is oppression as far as I’m concerned. We don’t need DEI. DEI is not equality, it is black privilege that is not advancing black people. It is being used recklessly to raise people like Jason up, only for them to fall down. It is racist.
And of course, in your tribalist mind, questioning Arday MUST mean that I align with Cofnas. Upthread I have said that whatever his motivation, once his foundings were shared, any investigation and decisions to be made were out of his hands. I think she feels mistreated by the Labour party, she would have loved to be leader, but the closest she got was being allowed to run for leadership as a two for one candidate (black and female) when she came last, just behind Andy Burnham.
