I've never had anything against Abbott really, thought she was unfairly treated by the press at times but there was often a sense she isn't very self aware and didn't really help herself. That's interesting though.
Also, I appreciate wanting to protect your children, and I certainly don't think they deserve to be pursued or harassed by the press (I'm talking the actual definition of harassment, not the Arday 'the press said something I didn't like' definition), but if you're an MP I think your offspring's criminal offences are the public interest - at least as much as anyone else's and arguably much more so, and the average person couldn't just stamp their feet and say don't report this crime I've committed which is public record.
People calling for an investigation into the media are failing to take into account that "the media" is no longer one thing like it was when "the media" were hounding Princess Di, or tapping phones. The media is no longer just a handful of newspapers who can be put under legal standards. The media is now largely made up of independent YouTube creators, people who are not employed by any company, people with Substacks and Twitter accounts, who have an audience of thousands or millions. There is no way to control these people who are basically private citizens. Even if it was possible to create some kind of legislation that said "Only publish one article per day about this person", then while it might possibly be achievable to make the big newspapers adhere, there is still no way to impose it on all these content creators who were a huge part of how this story spread.
I get where you are coming from, and I think up to the publication of the book, the media would have continued to have a field day. However, it just takes another big news story to come along, for this story to disappear off the header, and relegated alongside stories in the sidebar of shame. That’s how fickle the media is.

The population of Liverpool spend 99.9% of their waking hours fixated on contemplating this. The other 0.1% of their time goes towards wondering how the hair grows out of Michelle Obama’s head.
Those calling for restrictions on how many times a person can have a story written about them, do they really fondly imagine that this would only protect folk they approve of, because I immediately see all sorts of dodgy goings on going unreported, it would immediately be weaponised by the Farages of this world, insert your own wrongun of choice here.
In Cambridge the role of a tutor is a pastroral one, tied to your college fellowship and entirely separate from your academic position. Given the seniority of his professorship and the size of fellowship at Jesus College, I very much doubt he was a tutor.
Don't forget the epileptic seizure leading to the broken leg, or the brain tumour. Was the MBE the cherry on top of this, or did he get it for something else.

He had testicular cancer too, I vaguely remember.
So, if he hadn’t got his job at Durham University, he was “going to take a job in city hall working as a research analyst in Siddiq Khan’s office”?!( That he goes on to say he hadn’t actually even applied for but would have had a good chance of getting it and having an interview.) 
Pretty sure I could have completed my PhD in two and a half years while working full time if I’d copied the entire bleeping thing from someone else then (as he goes on to immediately add) had a brain tumor right before my viva which meant I knew duck all about the subject matter.
