Jack Monroe #620 Terrible

What was that? I can’t hear you on this tiny holy island I’ve suddenly swum to, to end my life as a hermit cut off from all society.
That was you I heard splashing ashore, elbowing seals out of the way?

I beat you here by 20 minutes. I am the large rodent in the blue "snakeskin" one piece romping with the otters. They have accepted me as one of their own and we are have a whale of a time frolicking in the otter mist*. Please bring string and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. Also gin.

*I thought it was "otter mist" for years

I was just musing earlier - with Andy Burnham's cost-of-living parade, I think this is genuinely something that Jack would have been asked to participate in in her heyday. Not latched onto, asked to specifically participate in as the Palatable Pov.

The Guardian would have been there, gob in hand as they edit her piece about her own experience and how luxuries like fresh lemons and butter weren't an option anymore. There'd have been, at the very least, a very purple blog and some fist-shaking tweets and embarrassing amounts of self-insertion, but now? Crickets. Couldn't have happened to a better person.

Secondly, I'd be squeezing my cheeks if I were her with all of this Jason Arday discourse. I mean, that operates on the basis of her having shame and a conscience, but you know what I mean. Very near the bone.

It also reminded me that all grifters have a bleeping playbook - lobbing protected characteristics and/or illnesses into the air as a pissy little shield. I was reading about an ASMR artist who had conned people for years via her Patreon, and the similarities were glaring:

- Claimed they were hacked and lost a load of money
- Claiming death threats and harassment
- A revolving door of chronic illnesses
- Offering deals and specials that never materialised
- Tip jar
- Baiting
- Talks of destitution with a face full of filler
- And on, and on...

But what if I'm too poor to own a colander? Will an old t-shirt and a handful of carabiner clips have the same effect?

Tried looking at the sun through my colander but all I can see is that DS12 has the dentist on Thursday, and Halloween's on a Saturday.

I think you could improvise with an empty baked bean tin, a sharp knife and a hammer.

Simply use hammer to use the knife to punch multiple holes in to the base of the tin and you will have handy eclipse viewing device. Hth.

Genius. We never saw this sort of thing on Blue Peter.

Just for public record and all, is her patreon still open ? So actual people may still be giving her cash for ‘all the good etc etc’ ?

I know she claimed it was hacked or something but never actually did anything to resolve it ?

These things may be useful to keep highlighted, just in case someone has local government aspirations!

Until that Patreon is closed, the Jacko threads are allowed to continue. She's perfectly capable of receiving the funds but not get in touch with them to close it. Funny that 😒

Still open. Claimed it was hacked (it wasn't) and that she had no idea how to suspend/close it. People are still sending her their hard earned cash via monthly subscription for 'all the good she does'

No, no, you don't understand, she hasn't received anything from Patreon for years now and has no idea where the money is going! And she wasn't able to post on socials warning people to cancel their subscriptions because of SEVERE bad mentals, or something.

Thank you for the clarification, I’d just hate to do any disservice to facts. It would be something that anyone even going local politics would want to address.
Let’s just say, I’m a stickler for a good vetting.

Someone checked a bit ago and the Patreon only has a handful of subscribers now.

Really? I thought the person who had hacked it and diverted all the funds to their own bank account had also kindly turned off the subscriber number view?

It's still there? FFS.

Comments are amusing, split between those who woke up and smelled the grift/read the Shattenstone article, and those who are like the soldiers in the jungle who don't know the war is over.

If she was still around she'd definitely be claiming to be blind after looking at the sun through a tea towel.
