When I saw her tweet bright and early this morning, I gasped out loud. Then I googled and double-checked, in case I had got the wrong end of the stick,on case it was ME that misunderstood. But nope, it was Jack Monroe stupidly misapplying the Nazi term ‘volksgemeinschaft’ to a sloppily sexist Tory produced educational poster, just to look cool and edgy. It’s a microaggression. And then for her to softly, gently delete without an explanation or word of apology, it makes me ragey.

Well, she can delete all she wants, but all the shocked responses to her volksgemeinschaft tweet remain, so people will still know what she said, even if they don’t come to Tattle for the receipts. What an dumb arseholehe she is.

Have to say grunka-ing so not sure when this will land but evaluating the effectiveness of charities is really complex and an organisation which fights for policy change, tackles complex issues or a self advocacy org for disabled people will probably never win according to Give Well's formula. I do like that they advocate for direct cash transfer of people in extreme poverty and give myself to Give Directly.
I encourage anyone thinking about which charity to give to to also think about their values and use a range of sources to do research. Staff salaries are not in themselves an indicator of wastefulness although the gap between the lowest and highest paid is to me an important indicator of values.

Trying hard not to step in on this one as I have a lot to say and don't want to derail the thread!! My professional experience is mostly in the charity sector 🔺️. Whilst it is true that there are many issues including waste, sexual exploitation and colonial/racist attitudes, it is really easy to get into Daily Mail type territory and over simplify a lot of the issues. For example, many charities are delivering multi million pound contracts, funded not just by individuals but government, corporate donors etc. Yet it is somehow expected that the people delivering these projects (who often need to be experts with specialist technical knowledge and many years of experience) should be low waged or work on a voluntary basis. Similarly, stories of staff staying in 'luxury accommodation' can be for example in conflict zones, where the only hotels allowed for insurance and security purposes are expensive because they require really high security and also accommodation is extremely limited (eg South Sudan just after independence) so demand drives up prices. 'Overheads' as well as office costs etc also include staff who are not in project roles so accountants, HR, fundraisers etc..all very necessary for any organisation to function. I'm not saying the charity sector is ideal or that people shouldn't do their research before giving to charity (if you are donating your own money you have a right to know where it goes after all) , but just that it is quite complex and the Daily Mail and many Tory ministers will do a lot to paint the sector as inefficient and corrupt without showing the full picture.

I wanted to clarify on my previous post where I said I helped run a Patreon since I got a few responses that made me worried! We have about 1000 members in a relatively niche community and people can opt to give as little as £1 on the Patreon and 100% of that money goes into buying prizes for contests and giveaways we do - we cover 100% of the fees on Patreon and paypal so all of that donated money is given away back into the group and it's all public what's given and how it is spent. It's entirely optional and Patrons get some minor cosmetic perks like their username in a colour of their choice.

IMO this is how a Patreon should really be run - it shouldn't be a secret how much you're making or what you're doing with that money. If you are asking people to give for little or nothing in return, the least you can do is be open about how much is made and where that money is going.

I have to say, main viggle is astonishing. Super smart, articulate, her food looks mostly amazing and then sometimes totally beige which is exactly the honesty I’m here for on socials. Reality not unachievable perfection.

Idk if it’s even worth deconstructing her sheer hypocrisy but this most recent train of #discourse is really distasteful, particularly during a recession with mass job losses / the uncertainty of furlough? There’s also SO much nuance to this stuff. Uno what they say about universal basic income and what would you do if you didn’t “need” to earn money, a good chunk of us wouldn’t be doing what we do now because a lot of jobs are entirely made up shit that no one actually *needs* (mine falls into this bracket so not preaching here). Like everyone in the private sector my job’s end goal if you really boil it down (in a slow cooker overnight) is to make money for the firm and its shareholders by encouraging others to spend w your firm, obviously that’s against most of our personal convictions, but what does she expect us to do? What happens to ppl that don’t have wealthy parents, are we trash for daring to “sell” ourselves to build something for ourselves and our babies? A job is an exchange of their money for ur time, I’m not “selling” myself. Adding value to their business doesn’t diminish me as a person? It’s an incredibly moral judgment from someone that has coasted through life as a very mediocre person, there is nothing exceptional about her. I also find that language incredibly odd from someone who claims to have done sex work, as that’s often a SWERF-y critique of it, I believe?? Also fuck off you dickhead you write for the fucking express despite having rich parents!!

She’s clearly pinned her future fate to high earning partners and that’s fine, I’d have a lot more respect for her if she was honest about rebuilding / reshaping her expectations rather than acting like a political crusader levitating above us all in her superiority.

Dearest new internet friends, I think we need to set up a support group for us to get through these difficult times. Many of us are not sleeping, waiting up all night for new drama, to watch new chaos unfold. And Jack rarely fails to disappoint, and I foresee many a sleepless hour as Jack's book deadline approaches. As Jack herself has taught us, a lack of sleep is very dangerous and I wouldn't want any of us tweeting racist nonsense of insulting dead children, as we all know is just too easy to do when in such a state.
