Does AD definitely mean they're getting paid? & does anyone know who/what organization is behind that? 😐

I think someone needs to message him to see if you get a response! It’s unacceptable
I saw Ruby Granger did it too - I’m not Jewish myself, but a grandparent was so it feels a little ew (can’t think of a better way to put it) I know they have the same management but I feel like the management should’ve suggested that the AD money went to the charity? Like if they‘re supposed to be a good influencing management etc then that would’ve been better, as I know there’s a lot of statistics on how many young people haven’t properly learnt about the Holocaust, etc so it is worthy of promotion but I’m not cool with the payment aspect

With the Bridgerton thing- are those even books that he would've read without the TV show?

Haha of course not. No way. Like the Harry styles and Taylor swift ones before it he chose them for clickbait and likes.

I definitely think people should be calling him out on the Ad, even if he isn't being paid there is a much better way to explain himself than just having Ad there. And if he isn't being paid or getting something in return then I don't see the need for Ad to be mentioned

He must have had complaints/questions. He’s confirmed it’s not a paid ad.
^ in that case, I respect the honesty & appreciate that he’s trying to educate. Could’ve been a bit clearer in the beginning though as it was a bit misleading

Ruby Granger has done the same ad and she just said she was paid (but is going to “reinvest” the money)
so... Do we think he might have lied? I find it
hard to believe that one got paid and the other didn’t (they’re with the same management!)

How hard is it to just say, "I'd love to promote this cause, but please don't offer me the money for it. I'd rather it went to Holocaust Education/awareness" I'm not an influencer idk is that how it works?

Ruby’s also doing a Holocaust module as part of her Eng Lit degree, so if she has been paid that feels...extra weird?

If he straight up lied he'd be in serious trouble from the ASA I'm pretty sure? Doubt he would risk it tbh, he's definitely not stupid

Yeah I find it quite likely that he refused payment from them, which is totally the right thing to do, I can't believe anyone would actually take the money!

So not put in partnership on the posts rather than AD? And preface it with I am not being paid for this, it’s a good cause and it would be wrong to take money from an important cause

I think people here are just lowkey giving him the benefit of doubt rather than realising that the whole 'I'm not actually getting paid' is just a way to deflect criticism.

He could have refused the ad in general and posted his own thing, the fact that he accepted the ad probably does mean that he is getting paid for it.

I don't know. He only said 'this post' isn't a paid ad. Considering Ruby Granger got paid for the ad about the candle, it's possible he got paid too for the first post about lighting a candle but not this post with the reading recommendation.

He is being very shady about it which shows his nice guy character is just that, a character he acts out

Guys this is wrong. He was paid. The original post was an ad.

This second post was not specifically paid for, like he says in the text. The original posts were paid for.

The money should 100% go to charity. Even if he couldn’t turn down payment, the decent thing to do is admit he’s being paid and then explain it’ll be going to charity rather than into his pocket

The Tattooist of Auschwitz is also not a good book recommendation for Holocaust Remembrance Day, as it was criticized by the literal Auschwitz Memorial Research Center (among others) for several historical inaccuracies. One google search will tell you that, it's even on the Wikipedia site for the book. You'd think a literature graduate would be a bit more sensitive to that.

And Instagram stories - really? He couldn't even be arsed to take an *~AeStHeTiC~* photo of a damn candle and make a regular post about it? But maybe the Holocaust Memorial Trust didn't pay him for that and he couldn't risk ruining his e-boy influencer feed with an authentic post!
Really does tell you everything you need to know about Jack.

What i don't get is why do so many students swallow everything these influencers say and do and don't question it? A standard part of going to uni is learning about and applying critical thinking. They have also grown up with the Internet so should be even more aware of not trusting everything you see online

Clearly they didn’t pay enough for him to speak about it on his grid

Or maybe he couldn’t think of a quirky enough pun for the caption
