same and maybe expanding to like film or even pop culture analysis. i actually find the content he makes not relating to studying/vlogging (his study content is insufferable) quite engaging, thoughtful, and interesting. at least he actually has something constructive to say about the books he reads...unlike some other people *cough* Ruby.

I sometimes wonder with him if he is trying too hard to be trendy and an 'influencer' and if he just chilled and was himself he might be more engaging and appealing. Especially as his demographic will be older as he ages.

i noticed that as well. ruby would usually describe the books as 'beautiful' or as 'well written', while jack did sort of a good analysis, using different synonyms, expressions, or even a sort of 'abstract' of the book in one sentence
but i think this happens because ruby tends to read or re-read children books and mostly fiction, while jack has shown a very diverse and wide taste in literature, meaning that he has more to say about the books he's been reading than ruby's, i guess?

I guess it's just his Internet persona that I find insufferable, but I'd honestly love to hang out with him irl.

It will be interesting to see if the book videos continue away from recognisable clickbait titles. At the moment he is clearly doing them as a way to make money off the back of other pop culture people/shows (Taylor swift, Harry styles, bridgerton).

Basically it's people who are just interested in becoming more "famous" and they usually hang around with popular people in order to do so. People like Carmie Sellitto (dating Kate Elizabeth I think) and Spencer Elmer are examples of social climbers

Normally I agree, he’s a lot better at the booktube content. But, in the bridgerton video he’s just posted I found him sounding really arrogant. The way he talked about the regency era as if he had a history degree not an English degree.

I’ve just watched his ‘Bridgerton’ video and...what is this guy on!? Don’t get me wrong, I completely understand that this book is not for everyone but he is so pompous it’s unreal.

I completely disagree with his ‘analysis’ of the scene where Daphne exploits the Duke of Hastings in order to have children. Isn’t this the same guy who read Lolita and thought it was brilliant? The book where a middle-aged man becomes sexually involved with a 12 year old girl. What’s the difference? Why can Vladimir Nabokov write about this stuff and Julia Quinn can’t? I’ll tell you why...it’s because, in Jack’s mind, Quinn doesn’t conform to his standard of literature. Nabokov is worthy of study at an elitist university - a book he feels perfectly happy to bring up in a university interview. Quinn, on the other hand, is just for the masses.

Jack has fallen into this trap where he is trying to appease everyone in order to keep his channel going. We all know that grape is wrong but that doesn’t mean it can’t be written about in books. Get off your high horse Jack!!

Tbf, I haven't watched his video, but you can't really compare the two. I haven't read the Bridgerton books but I watched the series and the grape scene of Daphne and the Duke is never mentioned. Lolita is very obviously condemning Humbert's actions, and showing him as an unreliable narrator writing from prison...Lolita is not a book that lightly touches on pedophilia and never again, it's meant to show how easily we can be swayed by language and words. It really is a brilliant book
