I can't imagine Jack being able to be that introspective either. He definitely wouldn't be the type to tell Oxford what he does and doesn't want to do - most likely he'd just become a 'yes' man to suck up to them.

I don't really watch Ibz Mo (I only really watch studytube to gossip about it, let's be honest) and he seemed chill and normal so I left him to do his thing. I watched his vid about why he applied to Oxford after reading this thread and the difference between his and Jack's videos are astonishing. He has a great deal of self awareness and I loved that he was very transparent about what he wants to study and why, most studytubers guard it like it's some precious secret (or they're clueless). Very different vibe to Jack trying to turn 'rejected by oxford twice' into a cringey meme. Admittedly I didn't watch his rejected from Harvard video so don't know how he deals with that side of things, but I think Oxford made a great catch. Bravo Ibz

what site is that? I kinda feel sorry for him. He really thinks this course is everything. If he had any sense he’d do that screenplay course (even if it is remote) would give him a leg up in his career over not doing it.

Hmmm, Jack just talked about potentially doing the screenwriting course abroad (in the mysterious country he refuses to mention) next year... could that mean he is actually thinking of a back-up plan in case Oxford rejects him again? Or maybe he's just referring to 'next year' as in before September.
I think he means next summer as a last hurrah before his masters (unless he’s decided if he doesn’t get into oxford again the masters is shelved)
I wonder if Jack really wants to do a masters because of his love of Eng Lit, or whether he just sees it as another attempt at Oxford. He's mentioned during a PhD in the past, but again, whether that's just to continue trying for Oxbridge or not is difficult to tell.
Getting a job to fill his gap year was something like Plan E (as opposed to Plan A), so that says it all really. I don't particularly like it when people refer to work as 'the real world', but I feel like that's appropriate in Jack's case.

I just caved and watched the personal statement one and in fairness it is actually pretty accurate. Having worked in university admissions most of the advice is right although I think the % aspect is a bit dangerous to get caught up in. Everyone is different and they may not have had the chance to study relevant subjects at a-level (not all colleges offer everything) so that's where personal experience comes in. We would have rather seen passion for the subject from any source rather caring where it comes from. But the basics of what he says are good.
However school and college are not that full on that you wouldnt get spare time, especially if something is your passion. You would often get people say something is their passion but cant back it up in academic or personal experience.

Jack is moaning on IG about job rejections. It's unsurprising (regarding both his moaning and rejections).
Also he said that he has a flat to move into in London - I don't understand 1) how he can afford one, 2) how he would pass the credit checks, and 3) why he would bother to waste the money when he's not doing anything there.

he cant surely be surprised at job rejections? is he that deluded and out of touch that he doesnt know what's going on around the UK at the moment. Many extremely skilled and educated people are struggling in the job market at the moment. And with him I dont really know what he would be at the front of the queue for job wise. Degree is a but vague and he has no practical work experience (e.g. placement year)
So this may be very ignorant or judgemental but what is his actual long-term plan with his degree/career?
I honestly don't find him that interesting to watch but it's interesting to see these studytubers navigate life outside of academics and see how they use the platforms they've built. He just seems very lost to me

I don’t understand why he’s so insistent on living in Camden, his parents don’t live that far from London? it’s very normal to move back home after you’ve graduated, all but one of my friends did! Like save money whilst you can!
I think that's a perfect word. He clearly has no back up plan. He was going to just carry on as a youtuber but that isnt really a long term career plan, very few can make it big and also what happens when YouTube is replaced by something else, or evoles. His youtube niche is very narrow and there wont be relevant for much longer. To an employer I dont really know what he has to offer, english (especially literature) is a bit of a broad degree and not especially practical. Sure he has social media experience but a business is likely going to want a marketing or social media student rather than just someone with a narrow youtube channel
