yeah i don’t live in the uk either but i’ve been following the coronavirus guidelines closely there and it’s definitely a violation. really want to comment/dm and see if he responds

I didn’t think Berlin was that bad for covid, in eve Bennett’s latest vlog she was making out like it’s really not bad with infections

Several Berlin district‘s are in the top 10 for highest cases in Germany. People from there even have to quarantine when going to certain other cities within Germany

Hmmm, Jack just talked about potentially doing the screenwriting course abroad (in the mysterious country he refuses to mention) next year... could that mean he is actually thinking of a back-up plan in case Oxford rejects him again? Or maybe he's just referring to 'next year' as in before September.

I think he means next summer as a last hurrah before his masters (unless he’s decided if he doesn’t get into oxford again the masters is shelved)

He got rejected from Oxford and very likely didn't apply anywhere else so he's stuck for now.
He's in London purely for the free accommodation and experience by the sound of it.

Oh yeah I knew about Oxford, but hadnt he agreed to London before he knew about Oxford? seems odd to be living in London in student accommodation when you're not a student. Most graduates I know want to move forward not back.

If he really wasnt interested in a post graduate aside Oxford that possibly showed in his application too. A passion for study is crucial

Tbf, Ibz's course probably has more places than a niche English course like the one Jack is interested in. That being said, Ibz is obviously Oxbridge material.
I might see if I can find the course page for Jack's preferred course and see what it says. Edit: There's nothing too specific on there about admission numbers, but it must be extremely selective nevertheless.

I think someone posted earlier they have 90 applicants to 80 spaces, so he only missed out by a little bit which I suppose is more frustrating

PAs are paid to big up their boss, so celebrity/star could reasonably be an exaggeration.

I can’t speak for all universities but I will say if Jack wants a career in academics it often looks better to move around. The danger of attending the same university is that it can be seen as you being unable to get in somewhere else (acceptance rates are higher among graduates of the university typically). It also connects you with way more people in the field. Obviously none of these are issues for people not hoping to go into the traditional form of academics of researching while lecturing but if that’s what he wants Durham might not have been the best choice.

He was always going to become irrelevant as he aged out of student age but with Covid its fast forward that. His content is already out of date

Didn’t he get A*A*A*? If his grades were lowered by one grade then he would have still got to Durham with AAA. Using a shit situation for many students to complain about his top grades is pretty low for Jack

Holding my hands up and saying I haven’t watched every recent video, but I just stayed his bookshelf tour and was taken aback that he’s at his parents house - could someone just fill me in on when that happened?

He lived in his own for the second lockdown as his flat mate went back to Scotland (I can’t remember why) and then never seemed to come back, he went back home just before Christmas, and then where he lives got put into tier 4 and he’s not been back to London since
I think it’s been a massive waste of money living in London during a pandemic
The student flat okay they gifted it to him but paying like £1k per month when you could be at home for a lot less, fair enough change your room around if it’s not what you want but seems silly

I find it odd that he only posted only after having had it. That doesn't go with his usual attention seeking style. Youd think he would post while sick, not weeks later. Also the photos themselves...hmmm...maybe its me but something didn't sit right

The photos look like IG stories that he drafted but never posted. My thought is: he got ill, presumed it was COVID, so never got tested, but didn't want to be called out for not getting confirmation. I don't know, but I wouldn't feel like taking selfies if I was suffering with a severe respiratory condition.

Does anyone know the exact course he applied for at Oxford? I just had a little look on the English Lit courses at Oxford and there's only one really "competitive" course. All the rest pretty much had 70 applications to 60 places. I think he needs to accept that he can enjoy English Literature without being validated by Oxford.

Oh wow! I thought it was more exclusive than that! If there’s only 10 that miss out he really needs to accept he’s not what they’re looking for! Try Cambridge instead? Or just do it at another uni?

I guess that’s fair but if he travelled home after the latest tier 4 announcement for London isn’t that breaking the rules?

I think his parents are in Surrey which is also a tier 4, you were advised not to travel far, it’s not ideal but if there his support bubble he’s allowed

The minute the funding changed for degrees (fees didn't go up, the government just stopped paying the majority of them) higher education became transactional and there was an immediate shift in students expecting to get a good level degree and having certain demands (some reasonable, some not) just because they were paying for it, not because they had worked for it.

Okay so this is maybe a stretch, just something that's caught my attention lately. Not sure if people here know the youtuber idkimhaz (haz), but she's mentioned in past videos that she's had a big crush on Jack but wouldn't try anything because she respects that he has a girlfriend. Now maybe I just don't trust Haz (she comes across like the sort of person who would make a move regardless lol) but I've noticed that the two of them have been interacting a lot over the past year - remember when he broke covid guidelines to go out for dinner with her and Ana? And they've been in tiktoks together, have been commenting on each other's posts. Idk maybe I'm reading waaay too much into this, it's just that if I were his gf I'd be a bit uncomfortable considering how clear Haz made it that she fancies Jack!

[Edit: just clarifying that I by no means think that Jack is cheating or anything like that at all, it's just interesting]

Wtf this isn't middle school! You don't stop being friends with someone because of an unrequited crush. I get how it can make some people uncomfortable but if Jack isn't, good for him!
