Therein lies to problem with education - everyone has different preferences! Jack in particular doesn't seem to get that.
Nothing will be perfect for everyone, which is a pity.

I was awful at exams, moving to coursework based in uni is where I shined personally but I know people who would have preferred more exams.

the 'like, so grateful' comes across as the complete opposite. Incredibly insincere. How does someone with an english degree regularly express themselves so poorly.

I'm.not against ads or making money off of YouTube, if you can then go for it. However do it with some authenticity and sincerity. He doesnt need as to make the content he puts out, his videos have barely changed from the very beginning. There is very little creativity other than point and shoot and a little editing. No graphics, no effects, no research into subjects, no archive footage research, no storyline to create. He is literally doing the bare minimum and got lucky with a simpler algorithm at the start.

I know someone who reapplied for my course and got in - we're both nearly finished. So if you do something different the second time around, are more prepared for interviews etc there's still a chance for you. But you're right, and I think Jade would be a good example of that. I don't think she'd ever have really enjoyed Oxford - both in terms of the way the courses are taught and assessed, but mostly because I just can't see her there. She fits in well with the modern university-silicon valley-life and I see Jack as the same. Fair enough if he can see himself at Oxford, I just think he'd enjoy somewhere else more.

to be fair I think he would enjoy Oxford. I was in his year group at Durham and saw him a fair bit on college/formal/society events in college bars and on nights out - I think the university style of Durham/Cambridge/Oxford suits him quite well, and he seems to cope fine with the workload etc

That's a great way to describe it, I know exactly what you mean. It'd be so interested to see how to talks to people in real life without being filmed.

Someone on another forum I frequent, who is a current Durham student, said that they saw Jack out and about in Durham, and went to say hi. Apparently he just gave them a rude look and then walked away.

I would kind of get it if he was at uni still and wanted his main channel for student videos and his second channel for book videos, like Elena and her Elena explains law or whatever its called. But he's not a student. So what is his main channel for.

I know this tweet is talking about the UK government’s policy towards A-level results but to me it just seems like Jack is bragging about the fact that he did all his work last minute and still got a 1st.

Some people, myself included, have to work incredibly hard for the grades we want (it’s highly unlikely that I’ll get a 1st) and I put in so many hours of research and essay writing to get the grades I aim for. Yet, it seems that people like Jack can just swoop in last minute and get a 1st without even really ‘trying’.

I feel like he didn’t mean much harm by it but I felt slightly insulted by his phrasing of it, as if we can all just do things last minute.

I hate how Jack makes everything all about him. He’s also done a thread on twitter for results day advice - and at the end he recommended his book

Jack is one of those students who got to the end of his degree and went "oh wait, I forgot to think about what comes next". I was one myself, and I know how quickly it comes around and how weird it is to watch everyone else get their adult jobs around you. Eve went into uni with a plan and knew exactly where she wanted to be when she left.

That's fair - I only read through her thread the other day so since she came out so I've got a different perspective on it.

That's true, I just feel like Jack has done nothing to actually make career plans past 'I'm going to go to Oxford, do a postgrad and write a book'. There's nothing wrong with not having a plan, but I feel like there is something wrong with burying your head in the sand after your degree and letting your stans hype you up for reading some books.

I saw Ruby Granger did it too - I’m not Jewish myself, but a grandparent was so it feels a little ew (can’t think of a better way to put it) I know they have the same management but I feel like the management should’ve suggested that the AD money went to the charity? Like if they‘re supposed to be a good influencing management etc then that would’ve been better, as I know there’s a lot of statistics on how many young people haven’t properly learnt about the Holocaust, etc so it is worthy of promotion but I’m not cool with the payment aspect
