If his book ends up on NetGalley, I’ll take one for the team and read it 😂😂
You better start drinking now.

Extract just in from the "novel" that Jack (not a librarian and not a French resident) is attempting to write.

Jacques De Bouffant woke up in his Paris apartment. It was a good apartment. It was a strong apartment, and it was in Paris, just like Hemingway's apartment once was. Today, Jacques was going to put the war behind him and go to the bull fight. Yep - that's right, time to log onto Twitter.

He'd posted last night about how many books he'd read (164) igniting a small war in the process. Which is why he was glad he had used SURF SHARK. SURF SHARK has a VPN - which stands for virtual private network - which means that no matter who you annoy online, you're never going to get hacked. SURF SHARK for all your online needs.

When Jacques had finished responding to the bull on Twitter, he decided to leave his apartment and do something French. That's right, something French, in actual France! He walked to Les Invalides. It was a strong walk, a good walk, a manly walk. He had only been there a short while when his mind (it was a good mind, it was a strong mind) started wandering back to Burham and his days at that ancient, highly prestigious university where he'd achieved a First*. What he had done at Burham still haunted him. He was a strong man, he was a manly man, he was a man's man's man, but he was also a guilty man!

It all started one day towards the end of term, when it had been snowing, and Jacques (although he was merely Jacque back then) and his friends from Cos Play Soc had lured a fresher who was dressed as the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland to participate in a hike all the way to Waitrose. It had gone wrong. Or had it? And in short, Bunny was dead!

*And @PhoebeWeatherfield it WAS a First, not just a "Covid First"!

He is a stringent reviewer. Would love to see how he fares as a novelist, considering his picky attitude.

He'd have a hissy fit and try to bully them or dox them. How dare someone else not recognise his genius when he's heminway reincarnated?!

I'm still confused as to the difference between his main channel and side channel -- does anyone have a clue why he has two instead of one? Their content seems roughly the same...

It's quite simple, really: His main channel is for book-related content, while his second channel is for...umm...book-related content.

I've never understood the second channel thing. It's always struck me as a "monkey see, monkey do" influencer thing - they've seen prominent YouTubers do it, so they have to do it, too, even if the content isn't different enough to need relegating to a separate channel. It's very rare that influencers have wildly different content on each of the channels.

All it does is make sure that a large portion of the core audience aren't watching videos they're releasing, because the second channel only ever retains a fraction of the core subscribers.

I also suspect part of it is because he's approaching the limits of how many subscribers he's going to get, so no more accolades unless he just scrapes 1 million subscribers. But with two channels, he gets an additional silver Youtube trophy plaque for steering 100,000 of his existing subscribers to his second channel. It's a hollow ego boost - none of those second channel subscribers are new, so nothing has been accomplished.

Yes! This has been something that has baffled me from the start. A blog on the book channel, a book video on the main…what is the point. Except as @gossip_guy said for the ego boost.

That's almost Dostoyevskian. 'I am a sick man... I am a spiteful man. I am an unpleasant man. I think my liver is diseased...'
😅

Is it bad that I'm curious about his book journey? Mainly in a morbid curiosity sort of way but still.

Jack's upcoming video looks like it might be one of those trying to solve the case, like we've seen a few do recently with Agatha Christie. Do you think he'll credit them or act like he's the first ever to do it - like he usually does.

Why doesn't he solve:

"the case of the work-shy graduate"
"the mystery of second Master's application to Oxford"
or
"the curious incident of the (164) unread books"

Just thinking about the person that said he was attractive…. Is everything okay at home?

Many years ago, Tory doyen, and Jack's pin-up girl, Margaret Thatcher, famously said that anyone who found themselves sitting on a bus at the ripe age of 25 (or plus) was a failure.

Obviously, she was wrong. But if you find yourself in this state 👆 ie unemployed, living in your mum's house, wearing a 'comedy' hat, and spending all your time making videos about how you are going to pretend to be a fictional character solving a detective story, then you are either:
(a) suffering from a head injury (b) hitting the nadir of your life.

He needs to get a grip. And a job.

Notice it didn’t take him long to mention the Tories (negatively) in a video after being called out for being a Tory on Tattle.

Still a Tory n Jackie!

People are obviously entitled to vote for whoever they wish, but where does the perception that Jack is a Tory come from?

I notice he is doing an Instagram book thing every day this week at 10pm. Seems a bit late to me.

Scroll back to post 522- where Gossip Guy gives a potted history of Jack's Tory leanings.

It’s not so much that he’s a Tory but it’s the incessant virtue signalling, making out he’s woke af - every video he’s an ally to another minority whilst being jobless, swanning around Europe peddling a different advert in every video and Instagram post. Typical capitalist Tory - wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Thank you. We would be lost without the commentary from Gossip Guy to keep us entertained. On Ruby Grsnger’s thread, it helps to keep me sane.

Also a bit weird to be doing it on his stationary instagram account. Literally either of his YouTube channels or his normal instagram would make more sense. Maybe he wants more followers for his brand? I also feel like he uses his Jack in the Books YouTube account to promote his stationary brand to death, whereas he doesn't mention it that much on the main account
