Maybe I'm a pushover but I do empathise with Jack and everyone else who has graduated in 2020/2021. It's an uncertain time.

He has the financial security and flexibility to study French in Paris for a while, so why not?
agreed, and so what if he's technically 2 years "behind" his fellow grads? it's not a race

Plus, he's doing youtube, has another job, has a brand and is living abroad - certainly makes him an interesting (albeit maybe unusual) candidate if he applies to jobs in the future

Have to say he looks really good in the checked suit he is wearing on 16 dec. He looks more grown up and mature and also stylish.

Many of his posts are still pretentious Instagram parisian style shots though. 'Jack in Paris' coming soon to Netflix lol

I wonder if Jack will be able to go back to France in the new year... if I were him, I'd have probably stayed in France rather than risk being banned from travelling back.

I reckon he would have worked that out before he left but depends how long his language class was for!

Business isn't a valid excuse, and study wasn't in previous lockdowns so will be interesting to see if he manages it

I'm a French resident (in the UK for the Christmas break visiting ill family), and I'm pretty sure the talent passport visa or studying French as a foreign language are both reasons to get back into France. You're right; it'll be interesting to see what happens when he comes back! (Especially as I know the French are a lot stricter with travel restrictions than the UK)

The oversized clothes look doesn't suit him. If he kept to the more tailored and fitted style of clothes I think he would look really good, grown up and stylish

Got this response from Jack
Untill now i thought he is so nice but that reply is so passive agressive....
I dont know what you wrote to him exactly but instead of "i dont ask you to work for free, i should make money too :) :)" he could have said something like unfortunately currently i have a limited range of products. I do not decide to pricing myself but i understand your request. I will try to create more products with wider price range in the future and forward your feedback to my management. Untill them you can try your luck in my january give away to win my agenda/reading log for free"
Take some notes Jack!

Also i agree to the comment about jim moving on from harry styles style :p

The oversized clothes look desperately needs to die. And find a balance in between oversized and extreme super skinny jeans to a nice tailored fit middle. Where all guys will then look much better.

he seems so directionless. he's legit doing nothing in paris..
He is pretending to read, however. I replied to his video where he claimed he had read "crime and punishment" by showing that he had certainly not read the novel at all. I suspect my comment was removed. I have no idea why he is pretending to read novels, when he clearly hasn't. It makes me feel sad. He's had all this education and is wasting it.

I think its like the Obsession with Oxford, it's an ascetic for Instagram and YouTube. Everything he posts is that Instagram version of Paris and the parisian lifestyle. I have parisian friends (who also earn a fair bit) and their life doesn't match what he likes to show. No authenticity

I’m just sad there were no strikes or massive protests whilst he was here 😂 But I agree, he’s talking about it like it’s the perfect city, I think anyone who went to Paris at least once has a different experience.

I wrote a post on YouTube to him about how he had clearly not read "Crime and Punishment" which I stand by. He didn't even know that the protagonist had murdered two people - which occurs in the first few chapters of the book. He didn't know why. And he didn't have any grasp on what happened after the murders took place.

He is an English graduate yet writes such a poorly written statement while also insulting his viewers (aka readers). And yes, they do have clout as that is the niche you are working in and the audience/customer you are trying to attract and make money from. You want to be big in the book tube niche, obviously you go after readers.

If he does read them then he needs to do more than surface level reviews and explain why he misses things (like phoebe highlights above)

Jack naively thinks that influencers don't routinely make tit up for clout of any kind. Why should he be any different?

His tweet reminds me of a YouTuber who staged videos years ago (can't remember his name, but he used to claim that he'd stayed overnight in IKEA without security finding him, and found treasure in safes he'd bought on the 'dark web') and who was adamant that they weren't fake when all evidence pointed to the contrary.

He seems to very conveniently be ignoring that his entire brand exists exclusively in the StudyTube/BookTube sphere, where, yes, influencers who read more are routinely deemed more impressive to impressionable fans.

Lying about reading books might not earn him any clout in wider influencer circles, but in the narrow content pond he exists in, where his fanbase is almost exclusively readers, that's absolutely the intention.

This defensive post of his might ring truer if he didn't proclaim himself to be "YouTube's Resident Librarian" in his Twitter bio. Dude knows exactly the kind of clout he's chasing (his entire brand is based around reading more than other people) and this is just selective ignorance.

He'd have been smarter just to keep his mouth shut about it, this only confirms even more that he lies about the extent to which he reads.

Just looked at the Twitter thread and find all the fawning slightly nauseating. I notice someone describes him as an ‘A1 bibliophile’. Perhaps it is just me but I tend to think of a bibliophile as someone who reads books from a range of genres (not just fiction) and has a deep love of literature. I don’t follow his content closely, but I think most of Jack’s videos tend to be responses to various popular works of fiction made ‘famous’ by ‘celebrities’. Please correct me if I’ve got hold of the wrong end of the stick.
