He must have just rented out an AirBnB or something to have a flat a) that size and b) that nice unless he's miles outside of Paris. From talking to friends who have lived there the property market is insane and flats are tiny.

Yeah I think for sure this is an AirBnB situation given how it's furnished. It's a nice space - I love the beams.

He was deffo just trying to hype it up, because English isn't an official language in France. It's still widely taught and many people speak in very well LOL, stop trying to make out it's better than it is, you've literally just hopped over the Channel hun xoxo

I was surprised he said this since he's usually good with making his reading diverse etc

Just re-watched:

He doesn't say no-one speaks english or that there are no english books. At 0:38 he says "because I'm moving away to a country where English is not the primary language and therefore the books won't all be in English". I think it's a fair point, no?

Agreed, plus "non-English speaking" country is usually used for countries where English isn't the/not one official language, isn't it? I feel like what he actually said got kind of taken out of context on here

I'd completely forgotten about him, just randomly thought of him so thought I'd check out his channel. Fair play to him, he has carved a niche of piggy backing off others work and name, but it's bringing in the views. Not convinced he really does read all the books but we will never know.

He is still very problematic but he has managed to successfully moved from the study tube niche

Can someone please explain to me why this guy's insta bio has 'youtube’s resident librarian', when booktube has been around for ages. Slight whiff of arrogance, entering the booktube game only a few months(?) ago, and then assuming that title.

I've never been able to get into his content... Any time someone comes across as the sort of person who might *finger snap and point* right after telling a really crappy pun, I just can't stomach their videos, and he is the epitome of that energy.

Has he said what he's actually doing in Paris, apart from being there for the aesthetic? I really can't be bothered to watch him.

He's 10000% in Paris just for the aesthetic (enjoy the smelly, dirty city babe - sucks to be you because there are so many nicer and more affordable parts of France xxx), and that place drains ANYONE'S bank account fast

yeah, Paris is highly romanticised. it's beautiful etc but like every other city, under the surface it's a different story.

A screenwriting course, apparently, which is a pointless waste of time for so many reasons.

  • You can't learn talent.
  • You can learn the structure and technique of screenwriting very easily, but you'd get a much better, faster and broader education for free just by voraciously reading screenplays good and bad, practicing writing and using online resources, all of which you'd need to do anyway.
  • Any course in screenwriting will offer zero advantage or inroad to a job in the industry.
  • Like any art-based profession, any success will be dependent on talent, hard work and networking connections in the industry, not a piece of paper.
  • If you're insistent on studying screenwriting in a classroom, doing it in a country where you don't speak the language isn't smart.

If he's got the money and the opportunity to move to a beautiful country, then good for him, but unless this is a loophole to get a study visa or something, the Mickey Mouse course he's taking is utterly pointless and seems like a step backward into studying again for the sake of it.

He's been talking mentioning taking a screenwriting course for years now from the looks of it, but has he ever expressed any interest in film beyond that? If he had any genuine interest in or passion for film and screenwriting, he'd have just started writing and learned by doing long before now.

I thought the screenwriting course he was considering was one in the States? I presumed Paris was just to continue working similarly to as he was in London - the research assistant stuff for Ali and YT?
