The jealousy argument is so lazy and 9 times out of 10 is completely inaccurate. People just want authenticity, and when you follow people for long enough you spot discrepancies in what they say.

Its quite easy to disprove his doubters...just do better reviews and answer people who question why you don't know things about books you claim to have read.

Am I meant to believe the exact day he reads the heartstopper books he magically gets invited to the premiere? I mean sure, he doesn't have much of a reason to lie about that but what a coincidence that just as he's making a video about reading the books, holding the book in his hands, he gets the invitation? On easter sunday nonetheless (not sure when agency people or whoever calls to tell him he's been invited work but I'd imagine it's not necessarily on easter sunday - at least for non-urgent matters?). Idk it's not a big deal but it sort of bugged me because I felt like he's being dishonest (or maybe it really was a coincidence, idk he might've just been reading them in anticipation for the show, wanting to make a video about it as the show is released, that'd make sense but it just felt like too much of a coincidence)
I can believe it- they're comics. Took me only a few hours to get through the whole series on Webtoon. I'm more angry that it was billed as a LGBT event for an LGBT show and tons of influencers were invited (like Ruby, Jack and Jade) who have never indicated that they're LGBT in any way.

i bet these posts are fun and quirky but it's just so disrespectful I hate it!! leave those people alone!! I don't get why so many people on the internet but especially influencers think it's okay to post pictures of strangers online it's so fucking weird. imagine someone telling you that some random fucking influencer talked about you in their ig stories I'd be so pissed off

First time poster but I saw this on instagram and just had to share. Everything about this is hilarious to me - the pose, the 'model' facial expression. But he just can't pull it off! 😂
This may be easy to say as someone who isn't an 'influencer' but I always thought that I could never sell my soul like they do.

You know, he's a booktuber, but he's flogging shirts. At least promote something on brand and that's useful to your audience, like local book shops or something.

They will flog anything to make a few quid.

Uuurgghhh I cringe so hard when people refer to themselves as 'the main character'. It's so disconnected from reality, and not in a good way.

If reading on here upsets him to the point that he always has to post/comment about it he could simply... not 🤐

Oh, for the love of all that is holy, he did it again. No, Jack, you started reading these books months ago. I really don't understand why he thinks it's necessary to lie about such a basic thing. It's perfectly fine to say "I'm going to read some banned books" and then take your time to read them.

'This man is a big red flag. He's a big red siren. He's Clifford the Big Red Dog.'

And that's another video I can only get through a minute of. 🤦‍♂️

Can anyone remember if he's mentioned in a previous video whether he's writing another non-fiction book or plumping for fiction this time?
Fiction, apparently. He put up a cart-before-horse tweet about "manifesting" seeing his "debut novel" in bookstores 2023, and his Goodreads answered questions had one about wanting to write fiction next.

It's another rehash of the time he wanted to study screenwriting, despite showing zero interest in film or writing previously. Like others have said, this is another grasp at straws to find something remotely booktubey to fill the life-as-content void post-graduation. The only fiction he's capable of writing is the frequent claims that he reads books to completion.

Expect an 'I read 750 books that teach fiction writing and here's what I learned...' video as Jack tries to teach himself to write fiction while writing his debut novel.

He might have enough brand traction to get a vanity book published, if the publishing industry still hasn't realised that subscriber numbers don't translate to book sales. But it'll be as bad as every other influencer vanity book. Expect either a ghostwritten pile of crap, or an amateurish handful of YA tropes that he got from back cover blurbs hurled together into a "loosely autobiographical" tale of a self-important English graduate twat with dad-joke Tourette's on a quest to discover himself in Paris. Kill me now.

Exactly, like here reading a translation is nothing to brag about. When you're able to read a book in its original language then it's impressive, and even then it depends who you're talking to cause some people think reading a book in English isn't that impressive even if it's not our native language.
Can you imagine the size of his ego on the day he'll finally read a book written in French? He says he wanted to read books like "at night all blood is black" someday but I think he doesn't realize the amount of work this would require. I already have a hard time believing that he read it in English from the description he made of it ("about the physchological undoing of a man", no, this is about a whole generation of young Senegalese being sent to a war they had no business going to and their descent into madness and their traumas being represented by the mc, but hey, this would recquire to read the book and some light researches on the side so...)
Also I'm quite suprised he literally made no comment on the fact that 70% of this book is a tale of the mc life in Senegal, their customs, their language (the mc doesn't even speak french), their history. The author made such a great job at desribing all of that, but no... All Jack could come up with was "Gory, horrific, blood, war, pew pew, [insert the lamest quote from the book]. I guess it was too far away from his perfect vision of all rich, white, pretty, traditional French novels he wanted to show.

This is like when he went on right-wing news channel GB News (where one of his Tory pals from Durham works) and claiming he "works in publishing" even though the closest he's got to that is a short-term freelance research assistant gig given to him by another influencer mate.

If you're asked by your friend to research the book they're writing long before it has a publisher, you're not in the publishing industry, Jack, you're just doing your friend's homework for them. You also can't manifest a career just by putting it in your Insta bio. The narcissism knows no bounds.

I don't watch much BookTok stuff, can anyone confirm if Jack's even a major figure in that community? His YouTube content is exclusively recycling other people's ideas and jumping onto viral book trends far too late, so I can't imagine him being a BookTok pioneer. And looking at the other people involved, they mostly appear to have tiny followings. What even is this? Could TikTok not manage to get more prominent figures for their own BookTok book club?

Jack naively thinks that influencers don't routinely make shit up for clout of any kind. Why should he be any different?

His tweet reminds me of a YouTuber who staged videos years ago (can't remember his name, but he used to claim that he'd stayed overnight in IKEA without security finding him, and found treasure in safes he'd bought on the 'dark web') and who was adamant that they weren't fake when all evidence pointed to the contrary.

Well, I got about one minute into his new video and had to turn if off after he made about five Timothee based jokes.

Maybe I'm just getting a bit grumpy, but his humour makes me cringe so much. He can't get through an entire thought without making some naff joke.
right? like I feel like his sense of humor has been deteriorating ever since he graduated, like the "your jawline get's sharper, so if i don't look like phineas off of phineas and ferb, i'll sue you" is so random and not witty at all and the constant speaking in tiktok sounds too like... I'm not saying he can't do that but it comes off like he's trying so hard to be relatable but he just isn't
"There's a difference between owning books and readings books" the shade at Ruby Granger I love it
this has been a popular "joke" for a bit in bookish communities online, i feel like i remember a bunch of booktubers i watched in like 2014 make this joke and there was also a semi-viral (for the time, on tumblr) tumblr post that said the same thing, so while it certainly could be a dig at ruby, it could also just once again be him recycling 2013 internet jokes (or both!)

edit: just finished the video, do english speakers usually say dostoevsky like that or is he mispronouncing the name?

I got as far at the title, which is hilariously ironic coming from someone who lies about how much he reads.

"i read youtube's most popular books - can booktube be trusted?"

Jack, no, you didn't and no, you can't.

Tbh any student who has been to the library and not been able to get what they want (library quality varies greatly from on uni to another) would be frustrated by some influencer showing off how many they have. Especially if its for a video and not for actual studying
