Yep, and like most other booktubers he also had a decent size audience previously, which has significantly helped him as he 'borrows' ideas from other booktubers in order to beat the algorithm.

Sorry for the double post but UNlike.

Reading blurbs of 10 or whatever books you got in the post has got to be the most boring video idea I've ever heard of....

...are people in those comments thirsting after his hands?
lol yeah, he made another tiktok recently that had people *obsessed* over his hands (which is where my first comment was getting at) and now he has posted another. I tried finding the previous one but it seems like it has been deleted? I'm fairly certain he made another tiktok responding to the comments also (like saying in a humorous way that they weirded him out), so maybe it got too weird and he deleted it? Good for him tbh, I get that, but then why post another tiktok just like it?

edit: nvm found it, it was this one

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I attended Durham University at the exact same time as Jack. (2017-2020) Luckily I was not subject to being around him due to having very different courses and social circles. However he was not the mini-celeb he's making himself out to be, the majority of the people I knew literally did not care he made videos and was popular at doing so, we thought it was weird he fully advertised where he lived because Durham is quite small, popular or not I didn't want people to know where I live. There were multiple occasions of being in the same club as him and he often just carried this ego about him, thinking he owned the dancefloor because of his 'popularity', which would often ruin the experience. I will say he was a half-decent guy - he bought me and my friends Jaegerbombs once cause we said we 'watched his channel' (anything for a free drink), but except for that, his ego was very much ahead of him. There were many more popular BNOCs (big names on campus) who had rightfully earned the title by participating in the University and the local community.

To be fair, if they weren't attached to Jack Edwards, they would be quite nice hands.
😂 Was just going to say the same thing. His hands are fine, it's the rest of him I find unattractive. I don't think he'll lose sleep over these Tattle comments given his booktube fanclub. I'm picturing them like the girls at early Beatles concerts, fainting because they caught a glimpse of the #godlike hands.

he fully advertised where he lived because Durham is quite small,
Hi, it's nice to get the perspective of a Durham student. Did you ever see his ✨hands✨? :p I used to live in Durham and it is very small compared to other uni towns. Don't think it's ever a good idea to advertise where you live on social media.

I doubt a bookshop in Paris is the first English language bookshop "in all of Europe"? Actually, I know it isn't, the sign in the vid says 'on the continent' and he responded to someone in the comments saying it's the first on the continent but he does realize GB & Ireland (and the Greek Islands, Malta, Balearic islands, etc.) are in Europe, right? So why not make the voice over factually correct?

He doesn't want to set a crazy precedent for being accurate and honest in his videos - his entire "I read 56 books in 11 minutes" schtick would be out the window.

Brits always say Europe/the continent when they mean "the other bit that's not the UK"

You'd think the ~resident librarian~ would already own a copy of Persuasion.

yeh i know and "the continent" would've been fine, even "Europe" ig but if a brit says specifically "all of Europe" i'd understand that as actually all of europe? Maybe not and I'm just being nitpicky

Dude's just creatively-bankrupt, yoinking video ideas from other content creators and rehashing the same crap over and over and lying throughout it all.
In at least a quarter of his booktube content ive seen, he thanks booksandlala for the idea/format. Rest is some repetetive stuff (famous people's recommendations etc.)

He stole the "I pretend to read all books read by [insert celebrity/fictional character here]" gimmick that makes up half his channel from John Fish, too. There's not a single original or creative bone in his body.

So he is making a video about "book to read in your teens", which aren't actually catered for teenagers. Just adult books that tackle "teen topics"?

What's the point..?

It would be much better to challenge yourself as a reader and read YA if you don't usually read that genre. Maybe find some YA that resonates with you and you actually become to love? Those types of videos are much more interesting.

But I guess those types of videos are also made by people who know what they love to read a.k.a. are self aware. Jack is only self aware enough to know he wouldn't succeed in making that video 😅

Yeah, YA is a huge category. There's countless subgenres and tiers of quality. You'd think someone who identifies as "YouTube's Resident Librarian" and claims to read hundreds of books a year from all genres and walks of life would have some awareness of that.

Instead his solution is "I don't read YA, don't recall which YA books I pretended to read in the past, and I'm too lazy to do any research or read any now, so I'll just do something else entirely!" and his fans are like "Yes! Please teach us, king! We need your strength and wisdom in these harsh and unforgiving times!"

Why even suggest this if he has no interest in or intention of doing it and nothing to offer? It's like saying, "Who wants a video where I do a deep dive into ergodic literature? Most of you? Okay, well I don't read books, so it'll be a video about this cake I bought in a French bakery, because I live in France, in case you hasn't heard."

I...I was barely even trying to parody him this time and he's still just so predictable:

Why even ask him in the first place when you know YA isn't his preferred genre? There are a lot of booktubers who actually read a lot of YA, you can just go support them. And Jack himself could've said so but he won't share the spotlight I guess (pretends to be shocked).

His online persona is a 14-year-old girl’s version of what a cool 20-something is like.

Similarly to how you thought the characters in Friends all had enviable lives when you first watched it but you soon realise that they are mostly walking and talking red flags once you get to that age yourself.
