I think it was written by a different person and JK was just part of the story idea. I don’t like all the stuff she added afterwards like Dumbledore being gay. If you want a gay character, write a gay character. Don’t just add it as an afterthought later, it felt very disingenuous.
I think so too. It just didn’t even feel like the same characters and it was pretty much one of those fan fictions where the character use a time turner- the end.I feel like once the series was finished it was a case of playing the fan field. Give them a story around popular fanfic, dumbledore is gay, public post about regretting killing off a character, primark socks. It makes me wonder about how much impact the hype had on the ending of the books- was what JK envisioned what actually happened.

This is such a lazy lazy lazy poorly educated response. Let me guess you've never considered women's rights or safety....in fact you're brain washed.
How can womens' rights be compared to being homophobic? How have you managed to even bother with such a tangent comparison.
Many gay and lesbian men and women are fed up just like heterosexual Men and women with the 'woke' ridiculousness.
James Dreyfus and Boy George are 2 gay men how have put their head above the parapet.

As for this being an echo chamber. Has it ready got to this that in 2020 women discussing women's rights is slated and laughed at (I'm assuming by other women).

*have

*really
I assume you mean me at the end there. No slating or laughing. Sighing and eye rolling maybe.

Still ok?

Sharon Davies also speaks frankly and openly about the concerns of the trans women over shadowing female athletes.

Not fair but again not a good enough argument for those who are brain washed

Sod men who have a penis being upset because you don't fancy them. Are you honestly saying you feel sorry for them because you may reject them???

We are living in a dangerous patriarchy when a women is apologetic about not fancying men

Yet Caster is subject to years of test and hormone therapy suggested if she wants to continue competing. The whole world of sport needs to make up their mind. This is not a trans issue. 🤦🏽‍♀️

it just makes no sense why,
with everything going on right now, and so many people hurting, she felt it necessary to drag this argument/conversation onto a public platform, with such a large audience, is there not enough going on right now.

as the author of the most successful series for young adults/kids,
it’s inciting hate. Regardless of where you stand on the topic.

what does she gain from doing it,
my issue isn’t even with the conversation it’s with her, and her desire to be in the public eye for controversy.

Katie Hopkins 2.0
She is one of the dementors she writes about, life sucking.
She's an intelligent Woman & knows exactly what she's doing with her posts.
If she truely isnt transphobic wouldnt she have quit all the posts she does. Knowing how much hurt the transgender community are feeling

Can I just say the Canadian rape shelter, Vancouver Rape Relief, has not closed down. After they lost their local government funding for not accepting males, lots of terves donated their own money to keep it open 👍
Agree with everything else you say though ZenChick101!

Many of this shelter’s residents are indigenous women. In Canada, indigenous women face a very disproportionate risk of being killed. Some of this is due to high rates of problems in their communities like domestic violence, alcoholism etc, and some is due to vulnerable women turning to prostitution. This shelter helps those women who might end up as statistics, and for all the bleating SJWs do about missing and murdered Indigenous women, they want to shut it down for not agreeing with their opinion.
oh that's great I didn't know that, but what's a terve? yup pretty ironic isn't it?

I’m interested in your theory @KawaiiAF I get a bad, aggressive feeling from her myself. I completely agree she’s a talented writer when it comes to the HP series, but nothing after that.
I get a really dark troubled vibe from her, just my opinion mind!

I agree, it can. But then I think back to when she wrote it in the 1990's (and I am the same 'age' as Harry) and what she wrote is very representative of a class/school in Scotland at the time (I'm from the borders). We had a couple of British-south asian boys in our year , one girl who was British-Chinese and one girl who was born in Nigeria but emigrated to the UK at 4. Its not the same world that we live in now. There genuinely was less diversity in our schools then.

But I agree the LGBT aspect R.E Dumbledore was completely shoe-horned in.
I do agree schools were far less diverse back then, I went to school with two black people (siblings), no Asians etc. It was very white British.

But Hogwarts was a school taking people from across the country not just Scotland which should change it a bit. But I get your point, she was writing a more accurate Scottish school pupilship. I just don't think Hogwarts would've reflected the same.

Yes I’ve known a couple over the years.

Side note that I’m also in the category of just being mentally unable to get a smear. I know it could save my life but I’m just not ready. All thanks to one man.

Tbh I thought you were a bloke because you told me to watch my 'tone'.

Never heard of her. You obviously can't get over the fact that millions of women across the world are in support of women's rights.
Funny as you use the exact same catchphrases and words she uses...

I can't get over the fact that millions of women are vile and hateful transphobes.

Perhaps she’s a grown woman who controls her own Twitter account and felt like talking about an issue that is important to her and women everywhere.
I'm not saying she shouldn't have free speech and talk about issues that are important to her but these people all seem like brands so from that pov it's just puzzling that's all.

For god's sake that's not what she saying, stop twisting things. She was saying people who menstruate are women, not that all women menstruate.
Implying you can't be a man if you menstruate.
cmon she knew exactly what reaction she'd get by posting that

Tone? Eeeek is someone putting me in my place? 😂
Sorry I've tired to understand your response but it's way too confusing for me. I'm not sure what you are trying to say?
Any how my point stands. What do hospitals, consultants, surgeries do when faced with a trans nurse or doctor or someone with patients so they are not accused of transphobia?
And I wonder if patients, especially the younger generation comfortable for calling a spade a spade and saying no to a trans woman examining them ?
-A hospital will not be considered transphobic based on a patients assessment of the member of staff in question. The action is committed by the patient, not other hospital staff.
-being comfortable saying no is a societal issue and not born of the trans movement. That’s not going to change until white middle aged men are no longer in charge of the conversation and the majority of our infrastructure. I don’t think I’m telling you something you don’t already know as you’re already on the feminism movement but the very design of female oppression is to give us or make us feel like we gave no choice so we aren’t aware of our rights to say no.

don't agree with everything that's been said on here but I do have questions and concerns: yeah not all transgenders are sexual abusers, but what about the small minority of cis men who would see this as an opportunity to gain access to a woman's bathroom? what about trans women who also would do that, with their biological advantage alone I'd be doomed in a fight.

Is it a mental illness is it not? It's hard to understand it not being a neurological or psychological disorder of some sort? what is the root of this? why do some accept their bodies and others don't? I'm sorry but "it just doesn't feel right" seems like a non answer

I'm probably gonna get hate for this however these are valid concerns/questions that should be taken into account. I'm all for people living their lives comfortably but I would like answers.

- Also in regards to kids and children there's another problem: kids who don't associate with traditional gender normative toys are labelled by a lot of people as "trans" "probably trans" why label it? maybe the little boy who wears princess dresses might be gay, maybe he'll be straight and a fashion designer, maybe he is trans.
Gender dysphoria isn’t a mental illness. However if it were why is that a problem and why should the mentally ill be denigrated?

Gender dysphoria is a condition of extreme distress when there is a disconnect between ones physical sex and ones gender identity. The medical treatment for this is to allow the person to transition, however far they themself deem appropriate.

If someone with gender dysphoria cannot transition they are highly likely to take their own life.

If any person with bad intentions wanted to compromise a “woman’s space” all they need do is walk through the door. There’s no magic shield. We have respect one another as human beings and keep each other safe.

That is simply not true.

In the U.K., there are more transwomen murderers than murder victims.

In the USA, trans people have a far lower than average risk of suffering murder or violence.

The claims that transwomen are at risk of violence come from statistics on black transwomen prostitutes. It’s because they are black prostitutes, nothing to do with trans status. They are still not at unusually high risk compared to other prostitutes or black people.

The dishonest claims of hate, fear and victimhood serve three purposes: to pressurise the public and authorities to give trans people a protected group status; to evoke sympathy and counter the public’s valid fears of strange men; and to play-act as the role of being dainty, frightened girls, which strokes their ego.
Well I totally disagree with you. I have no reason to disbelieve my black trans woman friend of over 10 years who i spoke with two days ago after a rally she attended. She has lived in NY for 29 years and feels exactly this. She is in a far superior position than you or I to tell me what is really happening within the trans community on the ground in NY and the US with regards to trans rights, abuse, assault and murder vs what is actually reported by the MSM. You’re entitled to your opinion but ill take my research and inside on the issues. Thanks

I’ll be honest, I’ve been put off JK in all of this, because I don’t think she’s chosen her words carefully. I’ve read the entire essay twice, and I appreciate that despite being a woman (cus, if that matters) and calling myself a feminist I probably have internalised misogyny, which is something to recognise in all of this.
The bathroom debate bothers me - there was a comment earlier in the thread about (not direct quote) “what does it matter how few men pretend to be women and attack women in a safe space, it’s still too many” - but you can say that of every single demographic. The tiniest percentage of people who “use” trans issues to get an advantage are the same tiniest percentage of people who are going to do bad things anyway. If a man wants to attack anyone I’m not sure he cares what the sign on the door says anyway?

I also agree that there is an issue with female safe spaces being taken away, and in a world where misogyny is rife as ever (just take a look at the most powerful man in the world) there needs to be more done about it to make women feel safe.

I don’t think JK is a TERF and I don’t like that we (all of us as a whole) throw terms around when we don’t like the point being made. Same goes for Karen (although let’s not pretend that’s a racial slur, neither is Gammon) - we are all far more intelligent than playground insults, and if we’re not it’s not a conversation we should be partaking in because it’s wide and difficult and complex

But denying trans women a space shouldn’t be that answer either - neither should calling trans people mentally ill as has been suggested in here and why I didn’t come in earlier.

The world seems to believe that trans kids are just shoved full of meds as soon as they say “I want to be a boy” which is not even remotely the case.
I just feel JK kicked off an argument at 11 at night (which suggests a lack of thought to me) about something that didn’t need to be argued. What was wrong with the term “people who menstruate”? It didn’t exclude anyone and it referred to everyone the article was about...

JK retweeted this earlier. I've never heard of this lady but I love her already

For any woman who has ever used the word "Karen", please have a look at this
Hang on though, why is middle aged woman (which is exactly what these people are) a term of abuse but “trans woman” as we discussed earlier isn’t?
I understand the sentiment of it being “you’re “just a middle aged woman, pipe down” butI do think we should either be OK for everyone to be addressed as they are or no one.
As said earlier I disagree with throwing the terms Karen and Gammon around but I’m confused as to why “middle aged woman” is abusive.

Sure, she can think a certain way, but if she’s creating a hostile environment at work because of her refusal to refer to someone with their preferred pronoun, and it’s against company policy, then the company ultimately have the right to choose not to renew your contract. This is what the judge said:

"It is a core component of her belief that she will refer to a person by the sex she considered appropriate even if it violates their dignity and/or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment," he continued.

So I personally don’t see how somebody can stand with Maya and also have support for the trans community, which JK claims to do. She was deliberately misgendering people and it just seems very cruel.
Thank you for explaining this as personally i have been confused as to what JK’s view/stance is! Basically and correct me if i’m wrong, is her main issue based around shared facilities between trans and non trans women out of fear of assault or attack? She has suffered sexual abuse from men in the past which is horrific, but we are talking about women - assault on women by women no?

I think you've missed the point. My point is when you have a female doctor or nurse you are not asked.
When you have a male doctor or nurse you are asked if you want a chaperone.

So what can the hospital or doctor surgeries do? If they ask a patient if they would like another female in the room are they transphobic?
I apologise. Maybe I wasn’t clear. If you’re having a female clinician, generally they will need to talk you through the procedure to get your consent. At any point you can say that you would like an additional female chaperone. (Maybe this isn’t common knowledge). A surgery isn’t considered transphobic for asking you if you would like a female champerone, or even a different chaperone if you don’t like the one you currently have. It’s not that deep- they just want to put your mind at ease and make you comfortable. At the end of the day they want to treat you safely. they can’t do that if you’re distressed or upset by something.

As i mentioned in my earlier posts these women, trans women are being murdered. That is their daily level of fear. Another US case

Two good people to follow and understand from the trans community are Laverne Cox and Janet Mock on insta If u want to broaden ur understanding 🙏
I understand very deeply about what trans people go through so I don’t need to broaden my understanding but thanks.

Still doesn’t really answer why she wouldn’t be ‘On board’. There’s a difference between being concerned and not being down with it. And calling them bizarre.

I feel quite neutral about her. Like several Tattlers, I live in Edinburgh, and work in the centre of the Old Town, "where it all began".. It's unbelievably busy in the summer, and the Harry Potter effect is everywhere... tours, shops, hordes of tourists visiting The Cafe. It's good and bad...money coming in to the city but stifling. I know that having such a massive profile and number of followers means that she has a platform for her opinions and should be able to say exactly what she wants, and open debate, but it seems like a really odd thing to say.
