I truly appreciate that you seem to have a very strong desire to see the good in people, but this part of your post is incorrect.

Yes, rapists will find a way to rape, regardless. However, Self ID makes it easier, and already dangerous, predatory men are taking advantage of this. It’s making it easier for them - it’s essentially just removing one more barrier for them.

I agree that you don’t tend to see genitals in the ladies loos. But it’s not just toilets - women-only hospital wards, domestic abuse refuges, changing rooms, women’s prisons. Those are areas where you may well see genitals, and they also have a large proportion of vulnerable women.

Again, it’s not bigotry to be concerned that predatory men may co-opt a trans persona to gain easier access to women, or to believe that some transpeople may be dangerous - this is already well documented, and examples have been given on the thread.

Making Toilets/refuges etc into a safe space for 'CIS' & transgender people I feel is quite important.
And is something that i'm sure a solution can be found.

Something else has been bugging me lately too - I’d welcome others’ thoughts.

I’ve watched most seasons of Drag Race and laughed along, but there’s something that sits uncomfortably with me. Men taking the ‘glamour’ of being a woman and caricaturing - often incredibly stereotypically. They make serious money off it while all the tough bits of being female are ignored (periods/pregancy etc)...

i think it’s been acknowledged for a number of years some of the undercurrents of misogyny (see: “fish” as being a compliment of being womanly) and indeed racism of RPDR. But also RPDR is well known for excluding trans women from participating. I definitely think there’s a huge problem with in particular some white gay men and misogyny; but it’s fair to say that misogyny tends to exclude trans women also.

I feel like a lot of times she’s trying to do the right thing but just goes about it the wrong way. Like saying now that Dumbledore is gay just to “please the gays” and seem woke. I don’t think she’s doing it to be like “There are too gay characters!! Not my fault you didn’t notice!!” I think it’s more of a “sure, dumbledore can be gay, here’s why”

Kinda reminds me of The Fault in our Stars when they go to visit that author to see what happens after the character dies in Hazels book. He doesn’t give her an answer and she’s mad about it. I think JK is just trying to sort of let fans know that she likes their theories and wants them to sort of be cannon in the HP world.

I do agree she’s dragging it on though. The play was one thing (wish it would have toured) but Fantastic Beasts is a bit much. I was excited for the first one because it was a new Harry Potter story and I enjoy Newts character but I couldn’t even finish the second movie I was so bored. I think instead she could have done a Netflix show based on the children of the main characters, or maybe just Hogwarts without anyone relating to the main original characters.

I also agree she should stay off Twitter. It makes people hate her when they wouldn’t otherwise. I do think she’s trying, and it’s not just to look woke, she’s just not very good at educating herself on everything.

I believe she would have been the worlds first female billionaire if she hadn’t donated so much. Crazy that not all billionaires do that.

That’s my rant, sorry it’s jumbled!

Whatever the arguments for or against whatever it is JK Rowling has been tweeting about, you have to wonder why she feels the need to waste her time posting on Twitter. If had her wealth and luxurious lifestyle I"d be out there having fun in the real world, having lavish holidays, going out for expensive meals and generally living the high life.

Sure, she can think a certain way, but if she’s creating a hostile environment at work because of her refusal to refer to someone with their preferred pronoun, and it’s against company policy, then the company ultimately have the right to choose not to renew your contract. This is what the judge said:

"It is a core component of her belief that she will refer to a person by the sex she considered appropriate even if it violates their dignity and/or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment," he continued.

So I personally don’t see how somebody can stand with Maya and also have support for the trans community, which JK claims to do. She was deliberately misgendering people and it just seems very cruel.

Have you ever actually looked at the amount of threats women get when they dare to speak out about this stuff? Threats of violence, death threats, doxxing, etc. These threats come from violent men dressing up as women and using their male socialisation to try and intimate women into being quiet. These men are not capable of talking about the topic in any reasonable way. It’s their way or you deserve a baseball bat. Women hiding their views due to threats of male violence is nothing new.

The fact you call them 'violent men dressing up as Women' is the whole point.

My friend works in Harvey Nicks. Jo goes in there fairly frequently and her manager has told the floor staff Jo doesn’t want them to approach her.
