I will never understand why the grandmother didn’t take Isabelle to stay with her that night. Her daughter straight up said she needed a few cans to cope with the stress of looking after her. As far as the gran knew, Isabelle had broken her leg in an accident, had a virus afterwards, and ‘looked like an abused child’ because of all her bruises. Just bring the poor bloody kid home with you for the weekend, let mum drink herself unconscious without the responsibility of a two year old.
AW may very well have refused, not wanting her mother to see the full extent of poor Isabelle’s injuries. But the gran didn’t even try to take her, just said it upset her too much to see her deteriorate like that. She knew Isabelle wasn’t being properly looked after, she knew there was a new boyfriend on the scene, she knew her daughter was planning to drink and even bought the alcohol round for her.
I know she didn’t abuse Isabelle herself, but she certainly didn’t protect her either.
