I don't think a woman can be charged with that? It would be assault with a foreign object I thought
Women can’t commit grape because they can commit assault by penetration either by using a part of their own body or another object.

Jamie Varley who killed Preston Davey was convicted of assault by penetration and apparently the CPS were very careful choosing that charge instead of grape, because there was the possibility JV could have said an object was inserted into Preston but it was not a pen which could have convinced a jury that they couldn’t prove it was actual grape using a pen which could have allowed him to wriggle out of the charge. I suspect there may be similar reasoning in this case.

I started out feeling very sorry for the grandparents (obviously still do for their terrible loss and the regrets they must have). I was very generously giving the benefit of the doubt to AW as well for her reaction there because nobody knows how they would be in such circumstances. The more that’s reported though the worse they all seem. I get the impression AW was a literal raging alcoholic and the grandparents must have known that.
I think the alcoholism was probably the red herring that fooled the grandparents and stopped them getting help. They hadn’t met HS and don’t seem to have been aware of how much he was in Isabelle’s life or that she was being left alone with him. I think they thought Isabelle was being neglected because her Mum was an alcoholic hut thought that was something they could fix or manage as a family, for example buying her a crate if beer just sticks out to me as the sort of thing relatives of alcoholics do, thinking ‘oh if we get her some beer and she just sticks to that instead of hard stuff, everything will be okay’ and the Mum asking AW to move back in with her and bring Isabelle.

Because there was the alcohol blurring the issue, they probably put everything down to AW being a bad, neglectful Mum because she was drinking, the broken leg from being stuck in a cot, bumps and bruises, looking neglected. If they knew AW was an alcoholic they would probably have blamed it on that and thought it was a combination of poor supervision and lack of care making Isabelle look so awful, The alcoholism provided an explanation that meant they didn’t spot the abuse IYSWIM.

Cross examination
Mark McKone KC, representing Alexandra Walker, is now cross examining Dr Duplessis.

He asks about the impact of the older head injury and whether she would have been lethargic.

The doctor says there is a likelihood that she could have shown signs of lethargy and could have started to improve.

Mr McKone asks whether Isabelle could have watched tv or eaten her breakfast after suffering the fatal head injury. Dr Duplessis simply replies: "No."

I don’t know if it’s badly written but the cross examination always seems to be in Isabelle’s favour??
I think that’s because it’s AW’s barrister and she is going to argue that the abuse happened but only HS was responsible for it and she had no idea. I think they’ve specifically asked about whether Isabelle would have been able to have eaten breakfast or watched TV because HS seems to have claimed at some point that he was up alone with Isabelle in the morning and that she was up and awake and did those things. Presumably AW’s barrister is going to argue that the fatal injuries had already been caused by that point so it would have been impossible for to do those things and HS lying about it shows that he was the one who did it.

I think it’s very telling that the majority of pictures the bio dad is posting to fb have been taken from AW’s fb…

His pics are all AI generated either from one where she's smiling up at the camera and seems to be sat in a push along bike (the one the press are using) or she's holding a bag of wotsits.
I don't mean to ag him off really, his child is dead and he didn't kill her. But it doesn't seem he helped her when she was alive.
Although it seems Isabelle's funeral was planned by him and his family.

At the end of the day, the dad didn’t kill her. She may have kept her from him, who knows. He’s not the one who broke her bones or sexually assaulted her and not the one who turned a blind eye. If she had full custody, there’s nothing he could have done when AW own mother did sweet f all.

Nobody said her dad did any of that

No he didn't kill her, and yes AW probably "kept Isabelle away" from him but he could have gone to court and got contact with Isabelle.
It's rare that a family judge would say no contact. Even rapists and murderers get to see their children.
No he didn't kill her, but he didn't do much for her whilst she was alive either. Both things are true.

Did AW have cameras up because of him ?
I mean she had them up because of ‘ someone ‘ .

After reading that she was hitting herself and smashing her own kitchen, I’m not sure if anyone else had attacked her or if she just made it up

Do you know he didn't do that or wasn't trying to at least?

Why are you trying to make excuses for this sorry apology of a father? IMO He didn't care. He's milking the death of his daughter to gain attention and sympathy for himself, and is taking no responsibility for what happened to her. This didn't happen suddenly out of the blue - this was long-term sadistic abuse that people could easily see. That HE could have seen if he had given enough of a damn to visit his daughter.

That poor child didn't have a single person in the world who was looking out for her welfare. Not one.

You could just as easily say it wasn't Isabelle's mother's fault because she was a hopeless alcoholic and couldn't parent properly. It wasn't her step-father's fault because he was a drug addict and couldn't help himself. It wasn't the grandparents' fault because they thought it was only due to drink and drugs that Isabelle was being beaten, and they didn't now she was being sexually abused. You could excuse all of these people in one way or another - but every one of them is an ADULT. They could all choose their behaviour. Isabelle couldn't - she was trapped in a hell not of her own making and the adults who should have been protecting her didn't give a mit.

Isabelle doesn't need people weeping behind her tiny coffin now she's dead. What she needed was someone - even just one person - who cherished and cared for and protected her when she was alive. It's not a lot to ask, is it? ONE PERSON who would love a child enough to look after her? Or even love her enough to give her up for adoption if they couldn't cope. But there wasn't even one.

(I haven't been able to bring myself to read most of her case - it's too harrowing - but where was social services in this? Even hospital staff ere intimidated by the mother, so what wasn't social services looking very closely at AW's behaviour? Isabelle was a baby - and she was failed by everybody around her.)

Spot on @TheMiceInTheShed
It's like saying "I know this lake is full of crocodiles but I'm going to let my child swim in it and if they get eaten it's the crocodiles fault not mine".
Safeguarding is all of our responsibility

To be fair, he and his family obviously don’t have a lot of money and a Go Fund Me was probably the only way they could give her a decent send off. They didn’t force anybody to donate and they genuinely were organising the funeral of a murdered toddler.

They won’t force mothers to take their children to contact though. They won’t physically come and take the child away to contact. A lot of men know they’re going to take the time and money to go to court then get nowhere.
