Her 'comeback' tweet ("...whatever happened happened nearly two years ago. It was horrible for it to become public last week, but I have had two years’ worth of incredible help and support...") muddies things a bit for me, because before that, I thought there was a chance she was blindsided and he'd somehow kept this from her - I know that seems impossible but I thought there was no way she would engage in threatening behaviour online with him (see timeline below) when he had this hanging over him, knowing it would be coming out - you'd make some efforts to keep a low profile, surely?

Timeline-
Nov 2018: He's arrested
Oct 2019: After Sali Hughes posts her video about "trolling", India publicly asks her if she knows where Tattlers live because Eric wants to go round and sort them out - so she was definitely still with him then, a year after the arrest.
11 June 2020: News of his arrest finally comes out. IK tweets something benign, kind of acknowledging it but not giving much away (since deleted so I can't remember specifically what she said).
19 June 2020: IK twitter comeback. Her and Eric still follow each other and it doesn't *seem* like she's left him.

Whether he is guilty or not remains to be seen, but a) she has known about this from the beginning and b) it appears they are still together. There's only a small number of different conclusions to draw from that imo.
Her parents split up before she was one, then her mum split up with her step dad, Andrew Knight. Then her mum remarried & that marriage didn’t work out. Her first marriage ended in divorce & he’s come out, daughter was born into a short term relationship. I think she wants to keep this relationship as all the other relationships she’s had with men have ended & she doesn’t want to be alone in the last third of her life.

Yes, I definitely think her early experiences have messed her up. I think the inner nastiness that is so quick to bubble to the surface whenever she deems that someone has crossed her is a sign of that. A sign of low self esteem beneath the veneer of confidence.

she has said before that her mother is very beautiful and her sisters are too. Very glamorous and amazing cheekbones. I wonder if she has always felt like the weird duckling. I don’t think she is weird at all, but with her family and the types of circles she moves in I bet even someone who was very comfortable with themselves would find it a bit hard and she clearly doesn’t.

Her daughter was from a relationship with the writer Andrew O'Hagan, she was with him for a good few years. The latest chap is quite a step down!

She was writing about being with him under lockdown so I think she’s stuck with him. She’s such a fake, a few years ago someone edited her Wikipedia page to show the truth, it was v funny.
I just had a look at her Wiki page and it’s been recently updated to include this recent news.

I wonder what Andrew O’Hagan, father of her daughter, thinks of this relationship. Her daughter has DiGeorge syndrome. IK wrote a fair bit about it after her daughter was born. She must be 17 now.

I remember seeing IK and daughter on an early episode of Something Special on CBeebies years ago.

I remember years ago reading an article, maybe in a sunday paper, and it was an at home interview with either IK or Andrew O'H. She was heavily pregnant with their daughter and it mentioned in the article she was smoking and drinking a glass of wine. I recall being lip curlingly disgusted by this.

Reading about all her latest shenanigans she doesn't sound like she has changed much in the intervening years.

I just found it! It's from The Guardian in 2003. I can't seem to link it on my phone. It actually says she had cut down from 40 fags a day to 8 and that her partner comes in and hands around glasses of Freixenet. It doesn't say she has one, I guess that was my own inference!

I can’t find it ☹ I did just find this review of her book which is pretty funny https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp....heguardian.com/books/2000/jul/21/digestedread
I remember reading My Life on a Plate when I was 13 and loved it. Think it was free in a mag my mum bought. I guess I wasn’t the target audience though 😂

The name of the article is 'Harriet Lane meets India Knight' and I searched 'Andrew O'Hagan India Knight interview. (y)

The book review is great. :ROFLMAO: I also read Life on a Plate back in the day and even more embarrassingly I had the book she wrote on shopping which basically recommends you spend your days wafting around in horrendously expensive muumuus from Toast.

Isn’t that the book where she recommends only buying
the very expensive ViSpring beds?

This is it https://www.archive.is/oldest/https://www.theguardian.com/books/2003/nov/02/biography.features

"Does she smoke in public? Of course she does. 'I feel so ashamed of myself, so I feel the only way to deal with it is to butch it out and glare at anybody who looks.' Which seems to be pretty much the way India lives her life." Sounds like she hasn't changed much.

Yes! And loads of other such nonsense.
She is the classic Champagne socialist, knocking back the booze in her vast Suffolk house complete with wildflower meadow as she churns out another 600 word press release for expensive face cream, pausing only to preach socialism at those who will never even know - or have time to care - what a bleeping ViSpring mattress is. And yet her sense of moral superiority seems even larger than she is.

Yes. A proper good socialist who writes behind a paywall for The Times. Just like the OG feminist Caitlin Moran.

I hate the term champagne socialist; it's important that wealthy people are also socialists, and don't just abandon socialism and become Tories the second they become wealthy like so many people. To essentially be called a hypocrite for having money and wanting to do the right thing with it does no one any favours.

Tbd on whether IK is actually a socialist, I don't follow her closely enough. I'd be very bleeping surprised though.

I take 'champagne socialist' as a fake kind of socialist. Wealthy people who espouse socialist views and opinions but actually don't live the life in anyway or do anything helpful and are actually secretly quite conservative. Liberalism and socialism are cool, broad minded suits for then to put on.

For example I would say Keir Starmer is the opposite of one. A wealthy, privileged person who works to improve the lives of others.

This is really interesting (to me, sorry I'm a language nerd), because I've only come across it in the context of "a rich socialist", so I looked it up and got two different definitions:
1. "a person who espouses socialist ideals while enjoying a wealthy and luxurious lifestyle" [Oxford]
2. "a rich person who says he or she supports a fair society in which everyone has equal rights and the rich help the poor, but who may not behave in this way" [Cambridge]

I've always disliked it and will continue to avoid it because of the confusion, but "fake socialist" does seem to be an alternate meaning.

She is definitely left wing on Twitter and her delightful other half is a Labour MP.

I see Champagne socialists as hypocrites - preaching one thing and doing another.
