I can't get my head around this. India is an intelligent educated professional, who has given up her daughter to keep living with a violent alcoholic p*do.

Unfortunately, there are women who will always put men before their kids, for whatever reasons (won't put my amateur psychologist hat on) and despite their intelligence. E.g. a woman I know was abused by her father, but her mother pretended she didn't know what's happening and never acknowledged the abuse. We will never understand, nor would we want to, their reasoning and brain acrobatics they must do to continue as nothing's happening.

I just remembered, actually googled, her phrase about people without kids: “Small unpeopled life”. I'd put that poop emoji, but it has a smiley face, there isn't an adequate emoji depiction of a turd that is required in her case.

Her columns have got more and more pointless over the years. I don't know if journalism has changed or if I've got older and crankier, but those lifestyle/opinion type columns just seem to have mushroomed and I have to skim over more and more of them to get to the decent bits of the paper. I mean, I have funnier, cleverer and more interesting friends than these dull, out of touch windbags, so why would I bother? Social media has really exposed a lot of them I think - when you think of that brutal but ultimately democratic place, Twitter, you really see how witty and incisive "civilians" can be and wonder at the positions held by certain well connected media people.

You are SO right. I see more wit, insight and brilliant comedy on Tattle Life than in a whole magazine filled with these stupid lifestyle columns. You can feel the entitled fools scrabbling around for something to write - heaven help their friends and family whose lives are plundered for copy. I find the whole Convicted Paedophile gets a free pass vis his wife is a columnist terrifying and sickening. How this woman can comment on anything is beyond me. I can only imagine she is lubricated with booze at all times.

Hello, new(ish) member here and my first post. Shame it's such a grim topic.

Until reading the screenshots of the BBC report on EJ, the fullest summation seemed to be in yesterday's Evening Standard online. I'll try to attach a screenshot.

Are we to believe that, despite the fact that there is clear evidence that he has habitually browsed this sort of material, because there was only one item found on his computer this absolves him of the crime? Also, citing EJ and IK's cosy set up as proof that he's come to his senses and turned over a new leaf is pretty flimsy.

None of my business, I know, but I do wonder what Andrew O'Hagan (the father of IK's teenage daughter) makes of all this. If I'm not mistaken, their daughter was (very sadly) born with a heart defect and a small degree of developmental difficulty. I don't know if this made her vulnerable, but it makes me uneasy to think about it.

I find EJ's sentence completely unfathomable. Justice has not been done here.

He admitted to searching for indecent images of children according To the DM. Surely she can’t continue to support him?

Also, another big mate of Eric’s is author John Niven. Also a member of Sali Hughes, Caitlin Moran friendship group. He was with Eric when Eric beat up a load of people at a Westminster bar. This guy (Niven) constantly refers to people as ‘sex cases‘ and other derogatory terms on Twitter, basically for not having the same politics as him. Yet one of his best mates has admitted to searching for indecent images of children. It beggars belief.

I wonder if the media silence is because some of the blue-tickers are affiliated with News Corp, of which Rupert Murdoch, the chairman of Times Newspaper Holdings before India's stepfather, and someone her stepfather presumably knows well, is the executive chairman?

Anyone remember India Knight appearing on Newsnight in June 2012 and admitting to using pornography regularly 'with her partner' [Joyce?] The clip is now nowhere to be found on the Internet – wonder why? The interview won't have aged well in the light of the child porn revelations.

From the sounds of it he's already done the therapy - I read he's worked with the Lucy Faithfull Foundation - so that'll go in his favour for sentencing.

Well that’s specifically for child sex abuse so she can’t say she didn’t know. I hate that what he did is on her but she and her horrid friends are SO judgemental about other women - can you imagine what they’d be saying if it were anybody else.

Yes, it’s depressingly common that people stand by convicted child abusers (and similar).

Without wanting to offend anyone I would guess most men with histories similar to Eric Joyce are very good at manipulating people.

I would also guess that despite India being a rich, educated and connected woman, her past relationship failures combined with other aspects of her life may have made her particularly insecure and possibly co-dependent.

Add it all up and I can see it as a plausible reason, although obviously it’s all conjecture and armchair psychology on my part.

Whatever the truth is, thank god her daughter has moved out.

Oh and India had the gall to mention how worried she is about her daughter starting back at school (Covid reasons, obviously) in her column today.

Absolute fraud.
