This gifting has really boiled my piss during lockdown. I'm not convinced gifting even works as a brand promotion tactic and yet the brands continue to send stuff out.

Anyway, I will never buy from Sweaty Betty.

I exercise every day, so am always on the look out for decent gear. Sweaty Betty is ridiculously expensive and the amount of gear they have gifted during lockdown is obscene (chloelovestoshop, thefashionablepan, 40plusnotgivingupyet, stealmystyle40 to name just a few). I refuse to spend money to subsidise freebies.

I refuse to buy anything from a swipe up etc. There's no chance they are making any cash from me. Even if I really wanted to purchase it, I'd go out of my way to find it myself.

This is actually someone who refused to give the influencer freebies during the pandemic and has instead gifted them to NHS workers.
Love her or hate her, Caroline Hirons donated them all to the NHS instead.

Perhaps other companies should take note.

Oh, how could I forget Charlotte Tilbury! I think she has been one of the worst offenders. I'm sure I remember reading that her prices are so steep because they decided to put so much money into advertising/buying influencers and not the actual products which are so hit and miss. I bought one of the lipsticks a few years ago (think it was called glaston-berry) and it was the so unbelievably dry to the point of being unusable.
I think the final straw with her was seeing her doing the in the bathroom series with Sali hughes and it was such a constant push of her own products it was laughable. I would have been too ashamed to put that video up if I had been sali!

I love this thread! Provides me with a comprehensive list of other brands to no longer purchase, although I think there will be barely any left afterwards.. 😂

Nars is a big one for me - always think of the trip when they took influencers and their partners to Bora Bora. Obscene. It’s literally like a slap in the face to the consumer.

The ones that are not mentioned above :

Neom
Dyson
Tropic Skincare
Thermamix
Topshop
Bobby Brown
Pretty much any big self tan brand
Wayfair
L.K Bennett London
River Island and H&M are getting on my nerves too

basically any clothing and make up company ... 😀😀 soon I will have to start creating my own make up and clothing to avoid supporting this effing consumerism .

Please clear your cookies on safari on daily basis !!!!! Or do not open any affiliate , swipe up links .. even if you don’t buy anything from a swipe up link your phone saves cookies for 30 days and if you go back to that online store independently from an app or something - influencers still will get their commission at around 10% . Be careful !

Jo Malone is the biggest one for me. I used to buy a lot from them, but seeing their prices creep up over the past few years whilst every influencer and their dog is sent whole collections has just cheapened the brand for me.

The body shop.

Benefit. Can't get over that they collaborated with Anna Saconne.

Hush. I like some of the styles but the quality has become really poor and again expensive for what it actually is. I've seen too many influencers clearly sponsored by them and not being honest about it which really puts me off. I wish brands would research more who they actually send stuff to.

Function of Beauty. Again too many people lying about being sponsored by them. They must think we are stupid.

Agree with Desinio. Reminds me of Athena in the 80s, and all their prints look the same.

Urban decay palettes- so expensive yet actually pretty average, paying for people to go on brand trips etc. Same with benefit, I only rate their mascaras and some brow products. Taking influencers to other countries must cost a fortune

Giving Brogan Tate and many others free washers and dryers. I’ll never give them a penny of my money.

Yep. They gifted (sorry, it was payment for an advert on her grid and stories in her words) Elle from Feathering The Empty Nest a Miele washing machine which was worth over a grand.

Her husband is a trader in oil commodities. He must earn £200,000 pa conservatively (she came on here to deny that figure and told me I shouldn't believe Google but I worked in mortgages for 24 years - I've seen plenty of applications from bankers/traders, I've looked at their payslips, I've assessed their bank statements, I've approved their mortgages - I know what they fucking earn) As a couple, they are extremely well off.

She tried to defend the decision to accept this "payment" - basically, we paid £100,000+ for our kitchen extension out of our own money and this was the only thing we accepted. Good for you. You can more than afford it. And so a measly extra grand wouldn't have broken the bank then would it?

I was on holiday when she replied and I forgot about it and, by the time I remembered, it was too late to reply to her and it would just look like cheap point scoring (which is probably what this is 😂)

But I was really angry about it at the time.

Ava May Aromas- just doesn’t feel right for some reason! Maybe all the plugs from Mrs Hinch and freebies “gifted” to her!

Interesting thread. I think many of us had had a gutful of the influencers and their never ending stream of gifted items, but lockdown has definitely heightened this dislike for the freebie grabbing.
