Hurricane Katrina inspired a national pet evacuation policy. The plan could save human lives, too.
People are more likely to evacuate if they can find safe passage for their pets, too.

Watching from Ireland. Fox have said there is 133 tornado warnings for the Florida area. The damage and it hasn’t even made landfall is terrifying.
Saw on fox weather on YouTube that they are saying the storm surge has started.

I have Ryan Hall Y’all on for a live feed. I watch him during tornado season too. He thinks landfall will be the next 1.5hrs. It’s arrived quicker than predicted.
I just saw this in the live Naples webcam. Wondering if it’s the eye of the storm because it looks like the glow of the sun! The eye wall is not far off the coast now.

Makes you think what the hell did people do before there were accurate storm predictions? They'd have so little warning. No time to prepare or evacuate.
They had footage on the news of the team actually flying into the hurricane to get information about it. Very scary and brave.

Florida for a long time was very sparsely populated - one of the last frontiers. An undesirable hot swampy hellscape that no one wanted to live in.
The whole civilization there is an artificial construct that wouldn't exist without AC and all the land reclamation to drain the swamps.
The gulf recorded its highest ever temperature this year. These once in 100 years events are more like every couple of years these days. When you mess with mother nature that much it's sadly going to be very vulnerable. It's my home state and I have a complicated relationship with it

Looking online at the live cameras etc it doesn’t look like it has been as bad as reported?
Thankfully I haven’t seen anything that looks to be too bad. I say too bad but you know what I mean I hope.

It hit as a Category 3. They expected it to hit as a Category 5 hence expecting it to be really bad
does sound like they were expecting the surge to be high in some areas though
Unless I have missed it, there doesn't appear to be the storm surges that were predicted
