Glad there's a thread here, this is so scary to watch I can't imagine being caught up in it. Hope Milton turns out nowhere near as bad as they're predicting and all Tattle friends and families will be safe.
I know, I think of them tooI can not stop thinking about the animals. I know human life is important too but humans have the chance to leave, prepare themselves as best as they can etc whereas animals have no clue and so many just left to fend for themselves. on Tiktok nearly ever video that contains an animal with a family fleeing before the hurricane hits has people commenting ''thank you for taking your fur baby!'' wtf?? I could never ever imagine leaving my pets behind - if they couldn't come then I wouldn't be going full stop.
atm I've been looking at the Naples pier webcam and can't believe people are surfing! I don't know how badly this area might be affected but I couldn't imagine just taking myself to the beach for a surf when a hurricane is on its way. Earlier on there were families on the beach with young kids. I just really hope these people have somewhere safe to go to

Yep, and infrastructure is just crap, the buildings are like cardboard. Hurricane Katrina wasn't even the worst hurricane to hit the US (think it ranks #7) but it had such an impact because it hit another poorer region where the buildings and homes are equally crap. Many of the people in Florida are piss-poor. I know we're used to seeing these big villas and boats and all these Tiktoks of people boarding up their lovely houses, but this isn't the reality for many. I went on a trip few years back which involved visiting some of the smaller towns and they really have nothing. I hate to think that those people are going to lose the small amount that they do have and I hope there is support for them afterwards, but I fear there won't be.
I’m not even surprised. When I was in North Carolina and we had a hurricane warning loads of my classes were half empty before the curfew kicked in because people were out riding the waves.I've been looking at the Naples pier webcam and can't believe people are surfing! I was watching a tik tok of a lady with a homestead and she's got loads of animals she's looked after and rescued. She's not in an evacuation zone (shes somewhere near tampa) -but she says her husband has lived there all his life and this is the hurricane that's got him real scared. They aren't leaving because she says her animals are her children. She can't put them in a barn because it's so dangerous in case it collapses. So she has to bring the smaller animals (chickens, dogs, cats, small cows) inside her home- but leave her horses outside. She said 'imagine leaving your children outside?' And it honestly just broke me. She seems in complete despair, she knows she's not in the direct line but she knows it will be bad and it's just crushed her. Her tik tok doesn't seem like the normal attention seeking tik tok- she seems genuinely heartbroken and scared for her animals which are her life. She's just asking for prayers bless her.I can not stop thinking about the animals. There were a couple of kids there about 15/20 mins ago with wetsuits and paddle boards, would have been no more than 10yrs old! They’re still surfing! What the duck.
Oh god isn't so horrible, isn't it. Had tears just reading your postI was watching a tik tok of a lady with a homestead and she's got loads of animals she's looked after and rescued. My jaw was near on the floor. I've had this on most of the day and you can see the weather getting worse and worse yet they're still bleeping about in the waterI’m not even surprised. When I was in North Carolina and we had a hurricane warning loads of my classes were half empty before the curfew kicked in because people were out riding the waves.
I can't bring myself to followI’ve followed @oursimplehomestead and I’m not sure I’ve done in the right thing in doing thatI know I’m going to be glued to the news tomorrow hoping that they get through it all okay.
When the Levees Broke is a great documentary and it's uploaded to Youtube in two parts. It came out a year after Katrina but I only saw it recently, and it was astonishing how much I had no idea about because it wasn't reported on the news.Do you know what the program was called? I think there is one called "when the levees break" although I am not sure if it is solely about the prison. It really sounds horrendous what they went through.
I keep seeing people commenting about "hurricane Kirk" whilst the UK does get some awful devastating weather, it really is nothing compared to what the US get.
CNN is doing live updates if anyone wanted to follow any news channels
I think it is a cat 4 at the moment.

He received a live ban earlier while I was watching. I had the volume right down so didn't hear anything but comments suggested he'd used the N-word just before the live was discontinued. The guy on the boat has apparently left and gone to shelter. Sensible choice
