You need to hop on over to the wags thread we need a gal like youFootball. He is nearly at retirement age now so will probably go into coaching or management within the next couple years
Know it’s motivating to know people can progress as sometimes feels stuck in a grade xThank you; I worked really hard to get here. No fast stream for me!
Personally I found specialising helped. I was in operations in dwp for years and didn't really progress, then moved into a finance role. I've since worked my way up 3 grades much quicker than I would have if I was still in Ops (and got funding for my accountancy qualification)Know it’s motivating to know people can progress as sometimes feels stuck in a grade x
This I loved Ops but I knew that to progress beyond HEO, you need a specialism.Personally I found specialising helped. Love hearing about people doing this. XG7 I would guess, I'm in similar, worked my way up from AO
This is worth bearing in mind. I’m at the point where I want to progress but feel penned in. Think that’s common feeling. I’d love to move in to finance but I worry I’d make a daft mistake. Maybe see if you could do some job shadowing or something? I did for a day and immediately knew I needed to move to Finance and so applied as soon as a job came up. Initially on level transfer but once you have the experience it opens so many doorsLove hearing about people doing this. X

That’s a good salary for piece of piss office stuff though! I’m on less than that and I manage 10 peopleI thought I was doing ok until I see some of the salaries on here. I am on 50k for a office based local government job. Not a useful front line job, just piece of piss back office stuff.
I know what you mean and your line of work is worthwhile and difficult. However, most people on high salaries have different types of stresses. Being on call 24/7. Even when I’m on ‘annual leave’ my work phone is always on, I have to answer every phone call and email quickly, regardless of the time. I do it solely to pay off my mortgage early and retire by the time I’m 45. I couldn’t carry on this job until my 60s. You sign your life away. Dealing with pressure from bosses, it’s a different level to the majority of jobs. A lot of people wouldn’t want to do it, understandably. It’s all down to choices.47k assistant headteacher.
