£22K in a thankless public sector job trying to help the overpaid and underworked in society. I could earn more working at Pret.
I got told to go duck myself yesterday hence why I am striking today!

It's absolutely terrible in the NHS at the moment. Band 4s are leaving to go and work at Asda as they get paid more!

23000 band 3 NHS, I would love a higher salary but cannot afford to study for 3 years on a piss poor student loan to then repay that debt. I would love a higher paying job and I’m happy for anything at this point 🙃

I'm a senior admin working Mon-Fri 9am-5pm earning £26k. Holiday allowance is rubbish though at 20 days. I'm unsure if I want to stay at this company as there are quite a few people who think they're better than you in the team and like to whisper about other staff members and undermine you. I feel like you spend so long at work that is it too much to ask to enjoy your day without such playground antics 😕 I'm not on LinkedIn but wonder if I should create a profile, would you all say it's worth it? Feel a bit unsure about where to go next and what to do...

I work in the public sector in a grade system. So every April my pay goes up, on my grade it starts at 24k and caps at 28k. I’m currently on the start pay segment which is 24.5k

hoping to apply for another job in the same place though which starts at 28k and caps at 32k ish I believe? I’m 22 for reference so I’m pretty comfortable currently tbh.

100% LinkedIn is worth it. Also go on some recruitment sites and set up some job alerts (Hays, Reed, Total Jobs etc). You can specify type of role, location salary and you get an alert if something comes up as a match xx

New job — same sector but a competitor — and I now earn £83k + bonus. Honestly I feel like a fraud.

I’m on 32k more than I thought I’d be on. Expected to be on less than 25k forever, but been increases in my job role recently. Also working nights so increase it as well

We've just had a pay rise. Our union had to get involved as it wasn't happening. I've now gone from 20k to 26k with 36 days annual leave. It's an extra £350 a month in my pay which is amazing but with food prices and train fares I haven't spent a penny of it yet. I'm not complaining as I'm in a better position then a lot of people.

I live in the South of England with a large mortgage for a small terraced house. I am contracting at the moment and I earn £400 per day gross....it goes quickly with 2 children in university....

I’m in the public sector, I have 2 undergrad degrees and a Masters but because I’m very disabled everyone assumes I’m thick so I can’t find anything other than a basic entry level job. I earn 18.5k, or 11.83 an hour. I would go and work in Aldi if I could as the pay is better and I imagine I would be treated better too. I’m not workshy but I need a fair bit of support.

That is so unfair

Work for a non-profit in the most American job on earth (helping people find ways to afford prescription drugs because their copays often exceed their rent/mortgage payment, it's great :-\). Have a Master's degree (two, technically) and make $46,000, which is like......37k GBP? That's before taxes ($13,000, get back maybe $1k) and health/dental/vision insurance ($240/month + prescriptions for $165/mo).

Can't imagine trying to support a family on this and I literally make almost four times the minimum wage here!

New to this thread, and looking for some inspiration as I'm not sure where I want to be in my career path!
I'm 24, working as a mechanical engineer on 36k which I know for my age I'm extremely lucky, my partner is a year older than me and on the same wage as a trainee construction manager (due to graduate so his money will go up)

My issue is I want a job that is work from home or in the office once or twice a week, something creative or techy, but I can't afford to start from the beginning again and go back down to less than what I'm on now - we have bills and mortgage to keep up with with little money left each month for savings / spending :/

I have recently got a new job within the construction industry so I am aiming on staying here for 12 months (I'm only 4 months in lol) but would love some recommendations of job roles I could look into !!

Would some form of management be an option? My brother in law is within the construction world and aside from trips to their sites is predominantly based from home.

If you don't hate your industry then I'd stay in it as the earning potential for you is huge. You'd struggle to not take a step back in wages.

Look into IT project management within the sector.
It’s good money and usually very flexible working.

See I love IT, and have a friend who works as a technician for start ups and he's smashing it - also works from home full time lucky bugger lol, but I'm worried I'll have to start on an extremely low wage again :(

I'll definitely consider it - I don't really see myself as the management type but I will have a look !! Thank you x
