I have returned 2 years later to update! I still earn around 43k as a Civil Servant but now another 32k from blogging.
Hi, I’m on the same rate in civil service. Do you have any tips for how to approach second jobs? The form is v open to how someone inputs the info, are there any traps to avoid? I don’t know what they are trying to check that I’m not doing

(I’m hoping to do some freelance researching on the side, maybe some tiktok affiliate link stuff, and maybe test out the financial domination thing cos an old [gay] colleague said I’d be good at it lol)

Yes! My take home is £1950 per month and I have 2 kids. I never have anything left! I keep applying for the 50k jobs as I'm London based but no luck so far. I have seen all of my friends overtake me and I'm very happy for them but also feeling a little left behind haha.

I'm curious about the blogging as I've just started a website that I think has the potential to eventually be monetised. Are you happy to give a rough breakdown of how you are making money from it (affiliate vs advertising vs sponsored posts etc) and what your monthly visitors and views are?

Damn you were still doing better than me back then, and I'm in my 30s!!!

Wow this sounds eerily similar to my situation....think I need to get on the job hunt!

Our form is simply 'Does any external income have a conflict of interest?'. Lots of people at my work earn from published books (and affiliates for those published books). Don't want to say more as it'll give away which CS department I'm in. But there's never been an issue.

I don't do sponsored posts. Almost all my income is from my ad network. There are 2 to pick from, Mediavine or Raptive. You need 50,000 pageviews per month to join Mediavine and 100,000 to join Raptive. I also earn a bit from affiliates, but nowhere near as much.

Don't really want to share my exact monthly views as I know people IRL who go on here and I want to stay anonymous haha

I totally agree on more transparency of salaries!!

Construction engineering
£52,300 pa.
Pay 10% into pension and have a company car both via salary sacrifice, so after all that it's £42,100 pa pre tax.
Take home is around £2800 a month.

Is there anyone on here who freelances? I'm sure I've asked something similar before but I'm testing the water before taking the plunge, but don't know where to look for work (graphic designer !!) or share without my employer catching on I'm trying to leave lol

yeah is there any way to share posts on LinkedIn but to exclude people from certain companies to be able to see it? Seems like such an obvious design feature!

I'm a graphic designer and have done various freelance jobs but usually through ex colleagues. I don't want to take on regular freelance work though as I'll end up paying too much tax. Some of the ones I see pay up to 300 per day so it's really good money if you can make it work.

Oooh okay, any tips on finding full time work? Everywhere I have applied to have just ignored my application ever for junior roles!

Marketing Services Client Manager - £42k, I'm 40 years old. It's a good wage for what I do, I wouldn't want the extra cash for a Director role, it's already stressful enough at this level. Plus I've gone past the 'career' thing, now I'm happy to just have a 'job'.

The same old things really just make sure you have an up to date portfolio and highlight any experience even if it's just work you've done freelance or your own projects. It's so competitive for some reason and it doesn't pay that well, I had an interview a couple of weeks ago and there were 350 application's and only 8 were interviewed ( I didn't get it obvs )

oh my god !!!

It is so competitive, I'm going to try and get my foot in the door somehow but I just want to be doing something I love and get out of this bloody job

People with jobs at this pay level - if you'd be happy to share I'd love to hear how you got here!

What role did you start in, did you need specific education or training, how many years did it take?

I work in a junior-mid sales roles in Tech, and my base is £60k and my on target bonus qis £40k. I don’t always hit my target, so my average annual salary is around £90k.

I was an EA for many years in London, and my last role was for £85k and the hours were decent. I found the tech sector pays the best for these types of roles.
