Her latest vid:
  • lot of moaning about her foot injury and her justifying still exercising through it
  • no mention of the MA application
  • sad food (a smoothie, lunch at 4:30 pm, a sliver of cake)
  • why is her fridge so empty all the time?
  • the usual 'uber-productivity' dross

Yeah I mean to be fair we worked out that from living in a big city we've spent over £70k on rent. And that figure was enough to make me feel a bit sick and start looking at moving North!

Renting is hard, but I think people find it difficult that if you don't have some kind of help with a deposit it is very difficult to do alone. And so much respect to those who have managed to, but let's not get into the whole "all you have to do is stop buying Starbucks" because that is not the case.
Those people drive me insane! Like yeah £3 now and then might be able to help me save for a deposit eventually, but when I'm living off cheese sandwiches and pesto pasta I'm going to use that little bit of money that I do have to buy myself a nice coffee now and then. Holly clearly has a decent chunk of money from YouTube, her sister has worked for years so I'm sure she's saved up, and I'm sure their parents will chip in. They have no place to talk about how hard it is to get on the property ladder.

Didn't some sort of company offered a flat in London to Jack Edwards and he's been living there since then? Do you think she'll make a collab with the same (or similar) company in order to have a studio for her in central London?
Yep. I think that’s very likely! I think there are some more Studytubers who had similar ads with housing companies. Really annoys me - especially right now! They should help out student in needs not people like Holly who come from a very privileged background and probably earn enough money anyway

The thing which annoys me is that Holly seems to realise she has zero common sense, yet does nothing to try and change that. It’s like she doesn’t care that she comes across as this 12 year old. Would hate to see her as my boss. I don’t think she’d know how to set any boundaries or relate to anyone on a real level. That’s what scares me about this tutoring thing!

I think there’s something weird about the family tbh. The empty fridge, the lifeless home, the way they never got help for holly’s ED.. and she’s hinted before that her family don’t have the smoothest relationship. Seems like Holly would be best if she moved away

Just skimmed through this video again and everything about it just screams ignorance.

For 1, she pushes away any advice in the comments concerning her intake vs. The amount of exercise. On one answer she pushes off the whole ‘you need to eat more for the amount of exercise you’re doing’ buy changing her answer to focus on ‘fixing a routine’ and ‘it’s more balanced than before’. Just because it’s more balanced Holly does NOT mean you're by any means recovered. Might be better in comparison with when you were ANOREXIC but there’s still huge improvements to be made.

And 2, the way she talks about taking care of your immune system ‘because of the current climate’ it’s like.... shut up??!!! The healthiest of people (even back then when the video was made) were falling I’ll with covid-19 and not recovering. It just shows, once again, her clear lack of knowledge on the world around her!!! Make friends Holly, talk to people, immerse yourself in everything around you. That’s tricky now of course but even back in Cambridge she had zero social life, it was all about being productive.

And another thing, and I’ve only just come to this conclusion now, but I think Holly almost uses vlogging and her channel to try and substitute actually talking to real people. It’s like her camera is her best friend and it’s sad to see that she’s probably more comfortable talking to an inanimate object and putting it out to the whole internet than actually speaking to family and/or friends in person. Opinions on this?

I'm just so confused as to why she was considering a research career when she hates labs. I know she loves learning but I'm just not sure it's right for her. I'm the same and I can't imagine anything worse.

Also how old was she in this vlog? she just seems and looks so young and I think she was maybe 20? But like I might be wrong
does anyone else find ut weird her parents wake her and siblings up before 8am evey dsy? they really seem babied

Also that rice looked boring af. Just beans and seeds, no dressing or flavour anywhere in sight. Is that just typical British food or is the family weird?

Also because I just can't with this girl but she thinks her foot is going to get better if she keeps doing spins and other workouts? The point of rest is so your body has the energy to heal itself, not just to do some other intensive exercise.

I commented this on her video. It'll be interesting to see if she reacts to it or deletes it.
I have never seen a boring salad like that in the UK and I'm inclined to say the family is just weird! They all eat (and enjoy?) plain boiled parsnips and leeks for god's sake! I have never seen those vegetables prepared that way before watching her videos 🤮

The RED-S thing looks totally spot on. And I agree with the resting properly thing! For the amount of exercise Holly does on her non rest days, she should be taking more time off per week or at least eating more, like you said, fats and proteins. I know she used to be oil free and I don’t know if that’s still the case but that’d defo be somewhere for her to start to change her diet!
She's still oil free as far as a I know. I would be interested in seeing Abbey Sharp (a nutritionist who mainly reviews other peoples what I eat in a day videos) reviewing Holly's diet. I feel like she usually has a sensible approach when talking about other peoples diets. I wonder how Holly would feel about an analysis of her diet by someone who's actually qualified

she’s been like that for as long as I’ve watched her (a few years). She very rarely showers after exercise and washes her hair like once a month. Never really understood it
I wonder if it's because it is non productive time, like having to be alone with your thoughts? Ruby Granger another study tuber regularly vlogs herself reading a book for 2 mins while brushing her teeth...like she has to regulate every minute of the day with productivity. If I brushed my teeth whilst reading a book (an actual paper book not audio) there would be water and paste all over the book! I can imagine Holly avoiding the showers because of similar logic.

Not sure how it's like in the UK but if you're only doing a 1 year MSc, im assuming that its coursework based with only few months of research? She spoke about potentially getting a phd but with that little amount of lab experience she's going to struggle so so much. Good lab skills are essential in STEM research, she needs more lab experience than this. And it's a bit ironic that she wants to be a cancer researcher but hates lab work. Wonder how she'll react when she finds out many of her potential colleagues involved countless of lab animals for research data (going against her veganism).
To be fair BSc -> MSc -> PhD is a very common route for STEM students in the UK. Although there are postgrad courses which are more research focused and tailored to people who want to pursue a PhD (e.g. MRes), doing an MSc with the intention of doing a PhD after is still normal. And it's becoming increasingly common for the first year of UK PhDs to include a training programme that equips you with the lab skills you need, and generally those programmes aren't so much concerned with a portfolio of lab experience, but more with your academic performance.

But yeah a bit peculiar she is entertaining doing a PhD in cancer research when she doesn't enjoy lab work... that'd be a miserable 3 or 4 years. I'm not convinced she will end up applying. There are cancer research PhDs which don't involve lab work though, e.g. social science research, which might be more suited to her.

Even hollys bedroom doesn’t have things on the walls or that much personality.

I also find it strange that her and Emily want to buy a house together. Wouldn’t that be a little weird In the next few years as they develop (doesn’t Emily have a long term boyfriend?)

there is something so odd about her family.. like i have said before, they have no stuff? but also the fact she has never spoken to a man?!?!? this implies thye have no family friends?
Her family is defo odd, they all seem so uncomfortable around one another apart from when Holly goes full on labrador mode to get Emily's attention, who seems to be the only person she's ever wanted to be close with. You're so right about the house as well, it's so clinically huge and sterile. I would love to know what their deal is 😳

R.E the not sweating after exercise thing i wonder if there is a link between delayed puberty/lack of periods as dont most females, males as well start sweating during exercise at puberty, Holly has never mentioned periods and physically looks like a pre-teen who hasnt gone through puberty, although she loves to talk about how hairy she is so maybe not

Holly: ‘I don’t want to come across as big headed’

Also Holly: ‘I went to Cambridge, I got top of my class, I just don’t see what more I could’ve done’.

OH MY GOD HOLLY! That just annoyed me. It’s not JUST about your classing, or what university you went to. It’s actually based on your experience, the kind of person you are, what you have experienced in life. I think it’s clear from the modules she chose at Cambridge that she just wasn’t ever seriously thinking about nutrition, but more about medicine/research etc. Of course she was rejected!

It just really annoys me to see her so shocked about not being accepted into places. She might have not wanted to come across as full of herself but my goodness she really did, and alongside that, emphasising her tiny bubble, and lack of life experience.

Oh, and the fact that she was saying ‘now I can erase TUM from my mind’ as if she was hoping they’d just accept her after she called them (she clearly thought it was something wrong with them rather than her as an applicant). Like, you got rejected, move on.

I mean renting is pointless. I'm spending more on rent each month than I'd probably spend on a mortgage, and at the end of my lease I'm going to have nothing to show for that money spent. Unfortunately, I'm from a small town with no opportunities. I have to rent in a city. It's the only option for me if I want to be able to go to university and get a job. I don't have the opportunity to save for a house because I have to pay this extortionate rent to be able to afford any opportunities. I wish I didn't have to rent, I'd much rather be saving that money for a deposit, but it's just not an option for me or most of my friends.
